It will not open from my last save. Would the walkthrough I installed from the last update affect this one or do I just need to start a new game?

Yes, mods will create saves that aren't compatible with the standard game. You only have to compare the file size of a standard saved game to one from a walkthrough mod to see that the modded save is MUCH bigger. You might be able to salvage the situation using the export function from the old version and the import function on the new game, but I'm not positive it will work.
