So as you know from my last post, I moved recently. That was always going to end up being at least one comic. I wrote and started layouts on another moving comic that was more broadly about the entire moving situation, and a bit (darkly?) funny, but I scrapped it. I may go back and finish it, but this one ended up feeling more honest, so I did it first.

(I also would have had this done sooner, but a couple of weeks ago our new basement flooded, and I've been wrestling with plumbers, insurance, and contractors. s'always something.)

Glad I live in Boston. Feels safer than most. Had to go boymode last time I visited my mother in Kentucky

Karadwynn Bradshaw

This couldn't have been easy to make. I'm glad yall are safe. Wish me luck in Texas.

Phoenix Cherry

I'm glad you're out of there Robin, but I'm deeply frustrated that you weren't listened to.

I feel this so hard. too many people don't believe what's happening, even as it unfolds before their eyes. and unlike our cis friends and family, we don't have the luxury of sitting around and seeing if they're right.

Iskar

This was hard to read, I'm so sorry Robin. I'm glad you've found a safer (damper?) community. I'm excited that you are sharing your creative spark again. I am here for it.

Marie Buhtz

I'm so glad you're in a safer state now, but it sucks so hard to have to leave your home and community. :-(

Tormented Artifacts

Massive sympathies- just glad you're in a safer state at this point.

Texas trans woman chiming in. Sending all my love and support.

Stray

Trans couple living in Texas...this may be us eventually.

OftenSane

My state shares a border with Florida. It's terrifying. I'm glad you made it out and to a place where you can feel safer.

Zeniya Starr

Happy you’re somewhere safe. And yeah, this is so frustrating how people won’t listen to us. Even those who are supposed to care about us.

Manjibutt

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through similar stuff. My girlfriend and I just moved up to Virginia a couple months ago. We left Texas for the exact same reason you moved: to try to get someplace where we know we'll be safer. This works is cruel and mean, and soon it will be impossible for me to live in my home state of Texas. It's hard, and painful. But my home is no longer my home. I don't know if that pain will ever go away or heal.

Patrick M Fitzgerald

A very moving set of pages. In all senses. I'm sorry it had to come to that for you.

Elizabeth Holley

sometimes I'm glad my parents aren't around anymore simply cause I don't think I could bear hearing them say that to me. I hope yours open their eyes to what's going on in the world someday

I hate this for you. That decisions have been made to treat you "lesser than" legally. That you were made to feel fear because of it. That you were the ones who had to uproot your entire lives because you could no longer feel safe in your own state. That you have to basically rebuild your infrastructure locally (new house, new jobs, new friends); even though it's a state that welcomes you, it's still so much work that should never have been necessary. As a mom of adult children, I just want to swoop you both up in a big hug and let you know you are loved. I am proud of you both for your strength and bravery in facing these ridiculous circumstances. It wasn't "running away", it's PROTECTING YOURSELVES and allowing yourselves to have the freedoms that should never have been taken from you. Hang in there, Robin and Jordan.

We were extremely lucky in that Jordan's job let them go remote so we could leave. (two and a half years of successful remote work during covid was a good point in our favor there)

Robin Brooks

Thanks everyone for the words of support. It feels good to make art again, even about something unpleasant.

Jen Campbell

I'm so sorry, Robin. Sending you all the love. <3

It may have been said a lot already, but it can't be said enough. I'm so sorry. I wish there were something else I could add, some silver lining or note of hope, but I can't find one. I just want us all to be safe.

Jamie Ellen

I'm so terrified that the conservatives will come to power in the next Canadian federal election, and the right wing politician that would become Prime Minister will convince all the conservative provincial governments that they can save a lot of their health budget by ceasing provincial support of any trans health care.

Ember

I’m sorry you had to go through even a fraction of that

Alison Y

So glad you were able to move, but again, this shouldn't be happening. Colorado's supposed to be pretty safe, but they're attempting library book bans here now, too, and as we all know that's where the hate get a toe in the door.

Rebecca Roney

Not quite the same thing, but a relative of mine who's in a same-sex marriage is fleeing Florida so hard they're ending up in Ireland and yeah... Even second-hand it sucks, and that's without any other relatives (that I know of, at least) having problematic views. :-/

Aundrea Brown

I had to do something similar last summer. Thankfully, I had some friends where I was moving that actually agreed with me about the danger I was in staying. At least most of the people I left behind, understood why I was leaving though.

Joanna

This comic came to mind now that my spouse and I are seriously considering expatriating. The hurt of having to leave your home and anger towards those who voted for the politicians forcing this. I love Philly, but in the long term nowhere in this country feels safe anymore.
