So I do agree tt you don't need to fully love yourself to be able to love others. That said, I've seen how alot of parents/ partners/ siblings etc are toxic bc they don't fully love themselves deep down. They can't take any feedback fr their partner, respect boundaries or make compromises bc it threatens their shaky sense of self-worth. They hurt or sabotage the other party in the relationship bc they feel inferior & insecure. These types can appear egotistical/ self-centred but its often a front or over-compensation to disguise their deep & often unconscious insecurities. Again, I agree tt self-love is not completely necessary to love others. It's just that sometimes (not always) a lack of self-love results in toxic behaviors tt make a person very difficult to have a relationship with. Hope this comment is not too long or boring lol it's the ex-psych grad & child of a toxic parent myself speaking. I wonder if Josh can relate given your mom's behavior (or maybe this doesn't apply to her at all).
