This is a VERY short animation I made last year. It was never really seen by the public at all til recently when I briefly included it in my social promotions launching my Patreon. Also I've shown off this car interior background before.
Why'd I make it? I had this idea of putting together this, like, sizzle reel for Juno & Kyrie. I've got a few vignettes at varying degrees of completion, this one being the most complete. Plus, like many things I was making at the beginning of what would become Hotwire Insolve, it was just a way to generate portfolio pieces for trying to get animation jobs. I didn't have the Hotwire Insolve title at the time, I didn't even have the story written! I actually retroactively put this moment (as well as the entirety of Hotel Trouble) into the longer comic I have planned out. This way I can use it down the line for promo for the comic at least, haha.
This actually started as an illustration I was working on that never got seen. The animation, I imagined, is the moment just before this:
Breaking down the parts of this—we've already seen Juno & Kyrie's character pages in other posts. So there's the BG and the gun prop Kyrie is holding. Let's start with the BG!
Juno's car wasn't totally nailed down, but i referenced this interior extensively when figuring out the exterior so I wouldn't have to redraw this BG at all down the line haha. I had the Lodestar logo and the basic idea of the the car at the time.
I like to have a few references on the page to show what sort of things I'm looking at, but really one of those pictures should just be the grenade launcher from Halo: Reach. I was just thinking about that grenade launcher the whole time down to the remote detonation function (you can kinda see this illustrated in the concept sketch above). tho, it's kinda like an exploding bullet rather than a grenade, since it's shoots so straight and seems to have some armor-piecing ability.
J&K have a small collection of extra weapons in the car. pilfered from their exploits, of course. Juno is telling Kyrie to not hurt any civilians, and Kyrie is saying something about how she'll make the shot count cuz they only have the one round for the thing.
for the window opening, i realized that the window couldn't feasibly fit into the door if it just rolled down regular-style. i like the window shape tho, and luckily this is fictional, so i can just make some stuff up! and so: the window is, like, a hardened plastic that softens in an instant and compresses. some technological world-building things you plan for, some you don't haha. whether or not the existence of this tech will continue to be convenient, bite me in the ass, or not matter at all has yet to be determined!
fun fact: juno's hair is on a separate layer. since i don't really do any details in the ears, she loses her ear too when i turn the layer off. Kyrie's head is on its own layer too.
this is going pretty long already, so I think i may do a separate, slightly shorter post going over the composition of this whole thing—it was an experiment in putting the shot together in Blender! I can also show the passing BG elements there too.
ttfn!
