Issues with Videos Playing Here on Patreon? (Patreon)

Hi Family, it's me...Nico 🤓

We have been receiving a few reports of some users having issues playing videos here on Patreon. 

This is because the Patreon app is not playing nice with Vimeo for some users. It looks like it is mostly Android users. I am not sure why the issue is happening but I have submitted a support ticket to Patreon to alert them of the issue. 

Workaround:

In the meantime, if you experience this issue you will need to use Patreon from a browser on your phone, laptop, or desktop in order to watch Vimeo videos (videos from YouTube play fine). Users who have had issues reported to me that this method works. 

I will continue to look for other workarounds in the meantime. Please provide any helpful feedback to other Patrons in the comments below.

Hi Nico, you can use Dropbox, daily motion or ok.ru. personally I like Vimeo, but it does incur problems if you embed the video into patreon. Why not try pasting the link instead, normally for me, the link will direct to my android Vimeo app, which plays well. Hope u manage to work this out!!

I thought it was me as well! But I just signed out and signed back in and I was able to get Vimeo to play properly for the most recent Run reaction! I don't know if that would work for everyone.

You can also download the Vimeo app and it will let you watch the videos through the app. It worked for me

I will try to paste the link as an alternative in the future for users who are having these kinds of issues. I will also utilize Daily Motion as an alternative. The only issue with Daily Motion is that the quality will be significantly less but it will be another option for those who are having issues.

It works for me I use the app I like watching from viemo but I also recommend using any of those other sites yumi recommended as a back up. Vimeo after awhile will become very shady ask you to pay even more . Just be cautious .

I use my phone to watch which is Samsung 20. maybe adding the embed link might work 🤷‍♀️

I have an iPhone and I haven’t been having any issues with the app playing videos. Hope they get it fixed for you soon!

Hi there! I’ve always used my Patreon app on my iPhone with no issues.

I'm using Samsung S20 Vimeo and Daily Motion are working fine for me..though for me I like Vimeo more.

My ipad will not play the audio in the patreon app for some reason, so i just open it on chrome

Im on desktop and it's fine. Just a note on vimeo - if they get too outrageouly expensive like it did for some other reactors, the said reactors did work around it with alternatives for your consideration. I would rather my patronage dollars go to you guys as much as possible rather tan an expensive/overcharging hosting site.

Hi guys! I am new to your patreon today and unfortunately I am having the same problem! I haven't been able to watch any of the videos. I am using an android too. Another patreon creator I am subscribed to uses Dropbox? Not sure if that helps? Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems!

Hey Madeline, nice to meet you! Did you try using the internet browser rather than the app? Also, some users have been using the direct link that we started to place in the description of the videos and it's working for them that way.

Ok good good. Patreon is working on the issues with their app. In the meantime I advise anyone who is having issues with the app to use the web browser to watch videos. Not sure how long they will take to fix the issues.

From YouTube? That's so crazy because YouTube is optimized very well to work with just about every website. I received notice from Patreon Support that they are working on fixing the issues. Seems like a lot of creators have been complaining to them.

Sorry--I guess I didn't make myself clear. YouTube is not a problem. The problem, as you pointed out, is Patreon and Vimeo, not only not working on Android, but not working on a computer either. I watched this on YouTube and enjoyed it. You guys (and BTS) make my day.

I've got no issues with playing it either on my iPhone or Mac .

Good to hear FAM. Same here. I think it's mostly some android devices unfortunately. I'm hoping things are better for people now though.
