Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 4 of Orb!! Wow guys....so that's really it for Rafal! Meet our new characters. Oczy seems like such a teddy bear! And his friend has a tragic past that he uses the stars to cope with / find hope and meaning in. I think that's kinda nice in a way, but things are about to get shaken up once they find out the truth about geocentrism. Whatever that means for their beliefs is gonna be hard enough, say nothing about what happens if they get caught with these notes!! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hello, Melissa! I've really been looking forward to see your reaction to this episode, because you finally met my favorite character from Orb—Oczy. As you already mentioned, he's very similar to Einar from Vinland Saga. He's also kind of like a teddy bear—you just want to hug him and tell him everything's going to be okay. And he got such an amazing introduction. I think we also got a really good first impression of his character. And the fact that he has Diavolos Voice makes him even more likeable:) But first, I want to list a few changes in the opening. I´m sure some of them you haven´t noticed yet. The most obvious one is that Oczy has replaced Rafal at the beginning of the opening. Right after that, we see the older version of Novak walking down the street. There’s also a scene in the opening where you can see Rafal, and everything in the background is basically on fire. That scene now holds so much more meaning when you consider how Rafal died. It’s been in the opening the whole time, but we didn’t know the significance behind it. And now that we do, it’s so much more sad. Oczy is a very tragic character—essentially a victim of the Church, or at least of what the Church teaches. Back then, the Church emphasized that life on Earth wasn’t very meaningful. It was exhausting, and many people found it hardly worth living because they didn’t have enough money to afford even the basics. Most people had very sad lives, and salvation was promised in heaven, where the real life would begin, free of pain and suffering. This allowed the Church to easily manipulate people into paying all their money so their sins could be forgiven and they could live a painless, complaint-free life in heaven. That’s exactly how Oczy thinks, too. He believes there is nothing good on Earth and that people shouldn’t put their faith in it. That’s why he’s so fearful all the time when someone says something critical about heaven or the Church. Oczy is portrayed as a pessimist. A person who hates his job. He is more worried about his placement in heaven after his death, as he lost all his hope to find beauty on Earth. He had killed a lot of people in the past and keep doing so,the burden of being cursed by the dead worry him even more. It can be assumed that He has a curious mind, as he could quickly think of why Stars aren't falling on earth, if it's the bottom of the universe, pulling everything towards itself. The Pope's explanation of Heaven being the most beautiful place and Earth being no different than Hell, and after experiencing the world's dark side must've left a scar on his imagination. He shut his door of imagination long ago, hopelessly searching for salvation in heaven, refusing to looking for beauty on this earth itself. Just to clarify: the Church, isn't against astronomy. In fact, they also aim to understand and explain what God supposedly gave to humanity. That’s why monks were often the ones making discoveries about the universe, the stars, and the planets—then trying to interpret those findings within the context of the Bible. So research was allowed, as long as it was the "right kind of research". Because of that, many discoveries were made during that time about our solar system and the planets, and this wasn’t inherently forbidden. It just had to align with the Church’s worldview at the time. Heliocentrism, for example, directly contradicts geocentrism and could be seen as questioning God—which, of course, was forbidden. So it’s totally reasonable that Gras is curious about the planets, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It just shouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. One more thing I wanted to mention—what I found genuinely funny was that scene where we first met Oczy, and you said he really looked like such a kind person… and then, in the very next moment, he puts on a robber's mask and starts stabbing people. I laughed so hard because it was just such a hilarious contrast. Your theories about who the other characters might be and how they connect to the ones we already know—I find those super interesting. Of course, I don’t want to spoil anything or give too much away, but I can tell you that not everything you said is wrong. And yes, the whole thing with the planets and why they appear to move backwards will be explained. It’s actually a natural phenomenon that we still observe today, and it's pretty easy to understand once you know the context. I didn’t know either that planets could appear to move backwards, but there's a simple physical explanation for it, which you’ll get to learn about soon. I’m already looking forward to the upcoming episodes and can’t wait to see your reactions!

Is this gonna be like Jojo where we get a new character each time? I don’t know how long it’s been since last time but it does seem better than before. I think there’s still a lot of skepticism and criticism but it’s not as scary. At least they’re giving people a chance to fight right? Not extreme torture methods. That’s an improvement, right? The new guy seems really sweet. Kinda reminds me of Asahi. Like, “sorry for my existing everyone 🙏 .” No but seriously I totally understand his struggle. I feel for him. He needs help before he collapses from carrying that much pent up anxiety and worry. He’s looking forward to the day where he can finally feel relief because life is so dreary and draining. I get that because as a kid I looked forward to heaven because my mom would tell me how beautiful it was and showed me pictures in a book. It was cool and pretty. I wanted to pet lions without getting bit one day. Then as I got older I realized how harsh some of the stories are and I got freaked out just for living. I felt washed up trying to be as perfect as I could be. I think frustration sets in after a while and I realized it’s not easy to be so righteous, and it’s kind of a strain on your mentality. But you honestly can’t put blame on yourself for that because that causes more harm. This is why I loved Canute’s little spiel in Vinland Saga when it came to growing tired of accepting something that could never be achieved no matter how hard we try. It’s frustrating. I don’t think the man upstairs is telling us to be exactly like him as it’s an impossible feat. We all sin no matter what we do. It doesn’t mean there’s something spiritually wrong with you. It’s not a bad thing or something to worry about unless you want to give yourself a headache. Worrying about an afterlife of 🔥 would get to you. And I think that’s what our new friend if feeling. Frankly, I’d rather be called a heretic by a person burning lives for no good reason than living in accordance to their philosophy out of fear. I had to go to church because mom. But it became too heavy for me in high school, so I told myself it wasn’t for me. But because of a history class I took recently, I was amazed to learn about how devastating lives were in early times. And though religion isn’t inherently bad I was amazed at how early lives put so much trust in it just to get punished as they did. It confirmed people definitely feared what they didn’t understand. And in a way it made me appreciate the church again because I think some people do need something to believe in. And at the same time I feel like I believe in a God but not necessarily people. There’s good people too who just want to spread a good word which is nice. Yet learning about the history of the devil was also interesting. It showed us the different interpretations of hell each religion had and that gave me so much relief because I think I still worried about not being so religious since I grew up with a religious mother. I don’t think I’ll ever escape that but knowing people went through lives fearing the worst, I realized I’ve been blessed living in this time period. Because at the end of the day others know as much as I do. They have their interpretation and I have my own. 😅 But I think it’s best to look at the world and its wonders to better understand. And hey they got on board with it eventually, right? Learning opens your worldview and getting excited is a wonderful thing. The other guy, Gras, was looking forward to stargazing because he believed the Earth was the best seat for observing nature. That his family was somewhere in this seemingly organized world trying to communicate with him. That’s an awesome and beautiful thought. Okay, I’m gonna guess on why Mars was not moving to create a perfect circle here: I forgot what it’s called but a student asked about this. It’s something that has tripped people for the longest time. Even with pictures I couldn’t understand it. I stared at a power point image till I kind of got it. It showed an aerial perspective to see the full picture and it was still hard to grasp for me. So a planet goes in a circle (well am elipse) moving in the right direction, then briefly stop, and then moves in the opposite direction for a bit and continue on in the path it was originally going. It just appears that way because Earth is moving as a faster speed. The way things move just gives the illusion. I’m putting a pin on this 📌 I don’t know if that’s what’s happening here but that’s my guess. If I’m wrong forget this ramble 🫣

I think it is gonna be like Jojo!! That's what I was thinking, it feels like the attitude towards astronomy is a little better? He totally reminds me of Asahi, omg!! Poor guy, he needs to destress for sure! Thank you for sharing so much about your personal story regarding religion! I totally understand being worried and even exhausted about trying to live in a way that's not sinful - and honestly I have a fair amount of religious trauma myself. I'm sorry you went through that! You're so right that everyone sins, and dealing with the fear of hell or punishment can be totally contradictory to leading a happy or productive life (or even a godly one, if that's what someone is pursuing...living in fear is never a good thing). It's also a sad fact that religious concepts can be used to manipulate or intimidate people, and for real, if someone is convincing themselves that burning a kid is some how the right thing to do, then I don't wanna be right either! It is a blessing to live in a time where we're all allowed to interpret things ourselves and figure out what religion, life, etc. mean to each of us without persecution. Learning is a great thing and can lead to some really beautiful insights, like with Gras! Thank you so much for explaining the Mars thing, that actually makes a lot of sense! It's dealt with in the next eps too, but I had an idea of it thanks to you!!

OMG between the voice and the Einar vibes, I can totally see why you love him too! Thank you for pointing out the differences in the opening - I hadn't caught the one with the flames but that's SO telling :O I'm so sad that Oczy was made to be afraid of something he enjoyed, all to fit a certain agenda :( It's a terrible way to live to believe that there's nothing good in this life. Thanks for clearing that up about astronomy! I honestly couldn't tell quite where they stood on it, as it isn't bad, but certainly not encouraged - I get it now that it's just the pursuit of new knowledge that's not really encouraged. HAHAHHA the irony of me saying that just as they mask up :P I'm really curious to see what I got right! I liked the explanation they gave in the next few eps about Mars, it's interesting! I really hope you love my next reactions!!
