One of my favorite Jimmy Buffett songs. Bob Roberts was a real band leader -- he passed away in 2006.
[Verse 1]Well, you heard about the alligators sleepin' in the shadeYou heard about the sugar barons screwin' up the gladesIt's a melting pot existence that is hard to contemplateAnd a never-ending battle in the Sunshine State[Verse 2]But far, far away from the front page newsFar, far away from the headline bluesDown a secondary road that severely shows its ageThe forties comes to life on a makeshift stage
[Chorus]It's the Bob Roberts Society BandPlaying every Sunday at the Orange Grove StandThey don't play grunge and they don't play loudIt's the magic of the music that still draws a crowd[Verse 3]Well, the word goes out from Melbourne to the KeysThe faithful get the message like it's written on the breezeYoung folks, old folks 'bout to cut a rugFox Trot, Bunny Hop, do the Jitterbug[Chorus]To the Bob Roberts Society BandPlaying every Sunday at the Orange Grove StandThey don't play grunge and they don't play loudIt's the magic of the music that still draws a crowd[Verse 4]I saw minivans from Boca, buses from PerrineThere were people speaking Hindu in the barbecue lineA couple on their honeymoon looked a bit confusedBut the boys in the band put 'em right in the mood, they played[Verse 5]A lady dressed in purple started dancing all aloneThen she sauntered oh-so gently to the vacant microphoneShe sounded like she's someone that never missed a beatBy the time the number ended, they were dancin' in the street
[Verse 6]They'd died and gone to heaven, that lively little crowdTrombones and saxophones sent 'em through the cloudsIt could have gone all night, but the party had to stopWhen they blew the circuit breaker in the souvenir shop[Chorus]It's the Bob Roberts Society BandPlaying every Sunday at the Orange Grove StandThey don't play grunge and they don't play loudIt's the magic of the music that still draws a crowd[Chorus]It's the Bob Roberts Society BandPlaying every Sunday down at the Orange Grove StandThey don't play grunge, they don't play loudIt's the magic of the music that still draws a crowd
