I'm glad they didn't shy away from what an absolute pedo creep David is. It's very little comfort that Bella Ramsey herself is older than 18 (which is probably why they were able to get away with the final scene the way they did) when Ellie is 14 here and just a kid. My heart broke when Joel called her "baby girl" at the end - as much a comfort to himself as her, I think. She was still here and he hadn't lost her. Can you imagine how much he blames himself anyway??
