Hi folks,

Here's the Book 5 epilogue. It's just a single scene, so there's no charge. I wasn't able to finish it in time to include with the ending chapters of the book because I had to figure out some Book 6 details first.

Hope you enjoy, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Status Update: I'm starting to get a feel for the basic structure of Book 6, but I still need to take those ideas and turn them into an outline. And before I get too deep into that, I want to make some progress on editing the older books. So it's a little early still to start estimating a timeline.

Good morning! Just got up to put out the flag for Memorial Day. Saw your post. Thank you 😁

"One last war." If only that were ever true.

Whew.. more questions, Ivy! 1) Would the Carved Basin's invasion of Larso occur before or after the elderfolk's attack on the church in Telfort? 2) Assuming Pallis needs 8 wardens / gods for the new ritual, that gives us a clue as to who among the wardens and gods he has managed to recruit. His allies would probably be Allosur (who probably researched and designed the ritual), Demesis, Borrisur, Irisis, and himself among the Gods. We do know that Zachal is dead, and Arodisis and Herasis have refused to join him. Among the wardens, he would need Badru, Rusol and one more (he may try to persuade Corec now), since Shayliel, Leonis and Kono are not available or dead. He may try for Hildra / Yelena / Corec now. Am I on the right track? 3) It seems like the new gods even after thousands of years have not understood the law of unintended consequences or the butterfly effect. They are still struggling to control the threads of the future. Fox and Wolf seem to have a much better handle on how to influence the future without too much unintended consequences. Even Snake struggles with his cult and his cult looks to be useless as of the moment. 4) Larso's armies seem to be singularly ill equipped to fight magic. Given that they probably fought wars long ago and are not battle trained anymore, their knights still should have been able to put up a better fight against magic and / or they should have been able to send more blessed priests or used the priests better against Corec. Given their pitiful display against Corec, Matagor should have had a field day in previous wars against Larso. 5) Would the ability to see the future be an irresistable magic for the new gods and the old gods? The overriding desire to influence the future seems to guide all their actions. 6) Given that Pallis and Hera are desperately trying to influence and control the future, information about occurring events would be a premium resource for all the gods and wardens. Yelena would probably be better informed about the world's events than Pallis. Could he not, over the years, created a network of spies / information conduits, etc so that he can jump in when necessary? The device to communicate over long distances that the Chosar Council used, would have been greatly useful to all new gods, especially the gods who spent a great deal of time in the mortal world. 7) Out of the 8 lines representing different worlds, would these be some of them? a) Mortal World, b) Divine World (or Godly World), c) The Hells, d) The Dreamworld and e) The Spirit World (or is this the same as the godly world / dream world?) f) The world with creatures with six limbs

1. The epilogue takes place after Kolvi's attack on the temple, but before Ephrenia learns of the attack. 2. The ritual needs eight living wardens, which is why Pallisur took on mortal form after Leonis died, but he only needs three or four to participate willingly. Without Leonis, he only has himself and Badru. Borrisur and Allosur have remained neutral so far, so when Arodisis refused, it was a major problem. Right now, I don't believe any of the other new gods realize how few willing participants he needs (or believes he needs), or some might be less inclined to remain neutral. 4. Other than Snow Crown, Larso is the only nation in northern Aravor that maintains a standing army. Other nations follow a more medieval structure where the local lords are responsible for maintaining their own forces, and have to conscript civilians in times of war (Larso uses that model too, in addition to its army). But with how the blessed priests have been spread out across Larso, only four accompanied the invasion force, and Barat kept them with the knights, who Corec didn't really use much magic against. There was no one available to protect the mercenaries (plus they'd need some really strong priests to guard against two warden-bonded elder mages at near-full strength). As for the knights themselves, Corec sowed doubt among their ranks and then Treya removed the demonic compulsion, so a quarter of the knights realized Rusol was a mage, and then all the knights who were close enough then saw their own commanding officer using magic. Corec's plan had been to overwhelm them with a quick loss, but that part of the plan only ended up affecting the mercenaries. Most of the knights didn't have a good view of what was happening to the mercenaries, but with everything else, they ended up surrendering before they learned how poorly the mercenaries had fared. 5. I imagine it would be tough to see something bad happening and not try to stop it. 6. Sending spells still exist, though they're rare. Pallisur does have his own agents in the world, but the amount of interference allowed is limited, and he gets more information from 1. Seeing (they can't See anything they want, but they can target specific locations), 2. his own priests (Seeing again, but he can See his own priests even when he's in mortal form), and 3. visions of potential futures. 7. Divine/spirit/totemic is a single world. There isn't a dream world, though dream-talking allows Badru to visit the divine world in spirit form.

I would also point out that Rusol didn't send very many Blessed Priests with the Knights/mercenaries after Corec because of the large number of knights he was controlling through compulsion. I don't think it was seen in the chapters but I remembering it being discussed here due to the risk of discovery versus the morale of the troops not having healers. I would also like to point out that Rusol not being very competent in matters of combat, and it is undoing his schemes against Corec has been a recurring theme. Even Yassi was seeing his short comings.

Jesse

I do not envy Rusol next book. Did he ever fill the last remaining bondmate spot?

Bibliotheca Custos

So glad Yassi was freed from the compulsion before book 6! Betting Ariadne's Warden bond with Hera is going to be important in some way...gotta be some weird wrinkles related to being bonded to a semidivine being/person. So excited the elves are getting their treebonds back/again! Already dying for book 6!

Can't wait to see how the next book turns out.

Thoughts on the old gods 1. Deer,Eagle,Bear and Raven can be saved but how? We don’t really know how Shavala restored Wolf’s Consciousness but she did. 2. What actually happened to Owl? I don’t think he’s dead but I also don’t think he can be restored like the others. Hera knows something specific about it besides believing she killed him and Ariadne will have to figure that out. 3. Is Zachal actually dead or just in another realm or facet of the mortal plane? 4. Snake is more alike to Rusol then he wants to admit both with good intentions but ultimately they’ve severely lost their minds 5. Why was Fox unaffected by whatever caused Raven and Bears downfall? We know the others were killed by snake but not all of them. So what happened? 6. Owl has a bigger role to play in this story than we’ve been lead to believe if there’s an actual puppet master in this story I’d be him. 7. Will the Old gods and the wardens merge? There’s 8 of them each. Or will that happen instead with Corec and his Bondmates? Razai - Snake, Sarette - Bear, Katrin - Deer, Treya - Fox, Shavala - Wolf, Elliere - Owl/Eagle, Leena - Raven, Ariadne? - Eagle/Owl. Corec —?? Just a theory though.

Coming soon: A sneak preview of Book 6. Three scenes from the upcoming first release. The prologue, plus two scenes with side characters, since those scenes don't have to be as tightly integrated with the main group's timeline.

Lone Crow

Just wanted to point out- Ariadne is not Corec's bondmet, she is The Lady's. And Bobo is a priest of Fox.

Brendan

Yeah that’s why I put a question mark by Her name. I have a feeling she won’t be Hera’s bond mate for long or at least not permanently. When you mention Bobo is a priest of fox do you mean something more when you say that?
