Status Update, and "Writing Origins - Leena" (Patreon)
Content
It's been a while since I've done a "writing origins" post, but I wrote some things about Leena on our Discord server yesterday, so I figured I'd post them here.
Leena was the last member of the main group to be designed, and I went through a few iterations before I settled on the details. The first possibility was, basically, Elsa from Frozen. I nixed that idea because she was, basically, Elsa from Frozen--too derivative. I did retain the idea for the snowborn branch of the stormborn people (who have their own stormrunners), although that concept didn't exist yet when I was designing Leena. The second possibility (very briefly) was a necromancer, but I didn't like the vibe or how it would fit in with the world. I recycled the idea for Lodarin, the necromancer in Book 1, but I heavily modified the concept so it's very different than typical necromancer tropes. Traveler was the third attempt and that was the one that stuck. I came up with Yassi at about the same time, and realized that those two concepts were very similar, so the Zidari mages were born.
Leena and Yassi also share a few traits. They aren't warriors, but they push on through adversity. Other people do bad things to them, and they have no way to fight back, but they keep on going regardless, forced to react to events around them while having little control of their destinies. For Leena, this has slowly been changing as she gains more control over her own life. For Yassi? We'll have to see.

Status Update: The new chapters are getting close, though not quite as fast as I was hoping for. There's a lot of real-life stuff going on that's causing delays, but we'll get there soon. And as always, you'll only be charged when I release new chapters.
Depending on the dates, either the next release or the one after that is also likely to be slow, as I deal with moving to a different city and starting a new job. In the long run, this'll be a good change for my writing. In the short run, it's going to eat up a bit more time.
