This reads like Duane's had a major realization of something - and it frightens him to his core. Whatever that realization is, I'm sure it's about to become clear to us the readers in the next few pages. But what really gets me is that I think this is the first time we've seen (undead) Duane genuinely afraid. I love the suspense!

Duane realizing he's extra not the protagonist of this story. And most damning for both of them the fear that their affection for each other might have just been her own reflected need for affection all along. Sette wants to be loved for who she is. Not because she's however unconsciously forcing someone to. That's fake. That doesn't count. That *sucks*. Like learning the best friend you had and you loved was just someone your parents were paying to pretend to like you. What if he doesn't like her? What if he NEVER liked her? :C

I have no idea who flipping willed Duane to make that reveal - was it because Sette told him to be 'true' on the pages prior, when her tendancy before would have willed Duane to accept the amulet and be quiet? I can't just assume it was 'Duane's' desire anymore and ffff, I'm going to be thinking about this for days

Hmmm... I'm sure this realization has made the both of them think that everything they've had so far has been a lie. But I don't think that's the case at all. Fact is-- the initial reason Duane went on this journey at all was because he had been blackmailed. The foundation has always been sketchy, but they've still managed to build a genuine friendship out of it. We've seen with Sessine and Bastion that having control over someone and having them actually like you is a completely different thing. Even powers like the Etalarche are blatant in how they control you and change you-- while Duane, for better or worse has always been himself. It probably feels up in the air to them now, but yeah even after this reveal-- I'm still convinced that they genuinely like/ care about each other. And that they'll realize that. Anyway yeah, this was great.
