'Fraid General Bell isn't being fondly remembered. This is a good page to see in high res though. Some things to note: Lots of people. City is still far from completely rebuilt. There's a memorial space around the flayed bones of one of the attacking vliegeng. Common people do not get the same fancy spread as the nobles. Twin girl cookies with a dried softi flower for a mild buzz. Splash of goat blood smeared on the traitors, marking them for Tirna. She'll ensure they reincarnate somewhere foul.

See, if this was Sharteshane, people would be making major bank off of the concessions and merchandise sales to the crowd.

The sheer level of culture depicted on this page is incredible.

Woo free concert! Man I wanna blend in and hang out there; interesting to note the side of the body the goat blood was smeared on...

Jeremy Ball

's like they don't know Tirna at ALL.

Ooooh we need the Ashley Cope rendering of that flyer!! This is such a cool page though, so many details! What an interesting affair. Also re: the other page, why is the cheese grey? Any reason for such a colour?

Renee

I like the detail of the smeared tirna blood. It's snackrifices all the way down

Flyfly

Ah, I love environmental pages like these!

JarJar

Daaaaaamn you really know how to draw enormous crowds of people without making the page feel cluttered.

Quinton

Big "kids playing on a decomissioned tank" energy in that second panel.

I always go read the pages 'blind' first, so the jolt when I realised why those on the hanging block looked half-bloodied was fun. Such a complex divine legacy, in its endless repetitions! Do they always mark the condemned this way, or is it just for the really special ones?

What are the red poles for? Are they there to torture the hangees, or will they be lowered suddenly so they'll be hanged?

I'm noticing that the boy uniforms all match the soldiers, which makes sense in terms of a propagandist ‘Sacrifice yourself for your country, obedience is the way’ (like how we do here with PE and the pledge), but it's also a smidge incongruent? Like- You've claimed that the gender roles of Crescent are that men are the strong, erratic, emotional, loyal ones to contrast women's analytic, resourceful, patient, nurturant leadership, but I don’t really see that? Nearly every authoritative figure we've seen in Crescent has been a man. The mayor, the traitorous politicians— Even Bell, who was in the army, was a leader. Toma leads Elka, the women we see are in supportive roles of cooking, attendance, etcetera. If I were to go strictly by the text, I'd assume Crescent was softly patriarchal with a queen at the head. The relevance here is that the boys wear clothes as if they're in the military, that is an honoured position, do girls get similar inditement? [Double checks page before posting,] Okay, so the executioner is a woman, I'll grant that. The only servers I can spot are also women, though? Are we to believe that the people who pass out cookies are of the same or similar status as the armed guards observing from on high? Unrelatedly, what is the stuff Elka is eating? Also also, they have a concept of hell? I am curious, how does it slot into their theology? Edit: In hindsight I notice that the majourity of the grieving people who are more animated and less composed are men, whereas the women are who are keeping it together and comforting the rest. Sneaky sneaky. /positive
