Focus, kids, the baddies are flinging knives now.

Notice the blatant code switch from Mikaila though? Sweet and encouraging and thoughtful little bestie in the change room; dominant, enthusiastic, shit-talking leader on the battlefield. Life's a tightrope!

Nice to see Miki maybe unknowingly inheriting her actual da's penchant for pedantry and theatrical speech. Very cute to see. Kick their freakin asses you two!

metrocube

Go Mikalia and Will!! We believe in you!

Jeremy Ball

Oh dear. At some point between when we last saw him as a boy guarding the council chamber and now Will has become brain damaged and resolved to live a life of suicidal muppetry...

Ashley

To be fair to the child, he did just get smacked in the face with a shield.

Jeremy Ball

Maybe another smack will reset him.

Natalie

Go Miki and Will! I love that giant lion sculpture in the background, does it have the Ssael face scars?

JarJar

On the battlefield, Miki seemed much more withdrawn and pensive. Even when chatting with Will in the barracks, she was playfully cool and self-assured. But in this match? Damn-It's like she's already high on the trill of it all. She's licking her lips, grinning like a maniac. I wouldn't be surprised if she started laughing. Feels like her recent wound has only amped her up more

Michael Stakely

Throwing knives at somebody who ca-... Goodwin, you utter fool.

PotentPinion

dumb pymary question: in a simple edge aspect attack like this one, does the Khert return the edge to the knives as soon as it "scatters" on the shield, or is there a delay, or do those knives have to be sharpened now? edit: I forgot this has been seen core leeching swords in the past bc contour is an essential aspect, sorry

Daniel in Bristol

I wouldn't have started from here, but given this is where they are, insane confidence probably IS the best bet right now.

vCalavera

Methinks it's not unknowningly at all, the bollocks referenced have a paternal air. (...and I will never type that again)

vCalavera

Hm, no. I think you've misread this. I feel it's more the crowd throwing their knives into the ring so that the Geffies can use their aspect, as they can't draw from outside. Goodwinlus or the other dude threw an edge with pymary this page, and they probably will throw more on the next one using what their compeers provided.

vCalavera

Oh no. I love her. (Also, llegabo?)

Khyrberos

maybe I'm just transferring my love of Duane but I *cannot fathom* how much work you're gonna have to do to make Mikaila unlikeable. She's an absolute blessing on the page every time, every panel. She's friggin *licking her lips* in her final panel??? I'm crine.

Khyrberos

(however I'll admit I'm confused by the phrasing of that bit in the middle, "and will not you or I thither this day send them!"; really seems like it should be a question mark instead of an exclamation, or am I crazy? Otherwise I don't really get what she's saying)

Chantal Fournier

Both her dads tend to be maverics in their own way.

Chantal Fournier

Goodwin yelled "Have we the edge?" because the wanted the other geffies to throw edge on the ring. I think he's going to find that tacit casters can steal the aspect from his edge AND THEN cast while pretending to mouth the words. Why waste time?

dzefs

I love Will my emotional support little guy doing his best, guy is the redshirt in three different stories right now - Mikalia Crushes the Twin-Eaters, Amadwe Argenti's Durlyne: a Retrospective, and uh the eugenics whitepaper they're going to write about Goodwin.

Capsandnumbers

I've noticed a few places in the comic where a question mark is dropped to get a tone of voice across. I think you have the right meaning, I guess we're to imagine a shout rather than an up-inflected question.

Capsandnumbers

She's been at her old papa's war diaries! What impression must she have gotten of him from those?

Cassie

"DID YOU EAT HIM?" cracked me up so bad. i love them both so much.

Ashley

Yeah, this is her art, this is her passion. Martial pymary's what she falls asleep thinking about every night, and what she wants to do again first thing in the morning. She's a fish in water right now; a vliegeng in the air!

Ashley

I'll answer anyway for others: If a wright takes a Core Aspect from a Material, the khert is likely to obliterate that Material as incomplete when the spell's concluded. A wright can replace the Aspect when she's through and preserve the Material, but that command has to be put into their initial spell, and it can throw off the timing of that spell, so fighters don't tend to do it. If you squint at the background going forward, you'll see little knife hilts strewn on the ground, missing their blades.

Ashley

"Puppydog!" Stick -bo on an animal name to get the name of many baby animals. lledebo is lion cub, for instance, and a common pet name lovers use on each other.

Ashley

Yeah, Caps has the right of it. It's a rhetorical thing; using the form of an inquiry to make a bold statement! "You and I this day will send them to hell!"

Ashley

She's formed such a strange conception of him, it's really interesting to me the place he's taken in her psyche. You'll see.

Ashley

Will is not stupid but he gets so flustered when he's stressed out :D

Cassie

Bro me too the fuck

Rainwalker

These two dorks, I love them. Go Fight Win!

Josh

Believe it's one of those rhetorical questions to which the answer's so obvious you don't even need the ? on the end. "Will not you and I be the ones to send them? We sure will! Oh zzhYESSSSS we will, Will!" EDIT: Dang it, it didn't display the other comments saying the same stuff when I sent the above in. Yeesh.

Josh

My bet is on "super-idealized version of Aldish patriotism, representative of all that is noble in Alderode" but with two weird twists; given that he was going to teach her pymary, she can imagine him as a *really* idealized version, like, Alderode but without the crippling sexism, and given that he died protecting her, he'd be like her own Ssaelit saint, an untouchable pocket vaosa. (Maybe that's too positive, but I can't imagine she doesn't have positive associations of him. Anyway I'm excited to see.)

Flyfly

TBH if I lean into what is the Dad/Parent part of my brain even a little bit, it becomes hard not to be seething mad about this whole stunt.

Malik M.L. Williams

Mikaila’s a brilliant motivator. Twisted (and maybe somewhat deluded), but brilliant. Don’t die, Will! Miki’s the only one in the ring wearing plot armor!
