Vampire's dialogue is enjoyable to write but at the same time, deeply embarrassing. I worry about people seeing these pages on their own, out of context, and concluding I am a hack. Which is true, but I am a hack in entirely different ways.

Oh no, Mallory sticking around was for precisely as dumb a reason as I'd feared. I admit I was hoping for a better answer re: his sticking around than "we're complete idiots in love," especially since Mallory's been affected by the curse before. Precisely how educated is Roger on the exact mechanics of what's about to happen to him? They're talking like there's a plan where the curse doesn't hit Roger, but they don't seem to have made much in the way of plans for exactly how badly it will go if it does. How close are they to the Crescian border at the moment? Also, I've got 10:1 on Will's bilateral symmetry being chief amongst the list of victims when this shitshow exeunts stage left, pursued by an immortal eye-mouth monster.

And a mechanics question follow-up: does the Etalarche continue to affect the damma-castes if they are not actively inside the dammakhert? So say Roger and Mallory are both there when the curse goes live, Mallory is somehow subdued and dragged over the Crescian border, outside the dammakhert. What happens?

Is the poor thing really saying he's at the culmination of centuries of striving for a particular end, but that he wouldn't be able to hold to his purpose and achieve that goal is Roger quivered his lip and wept at him?
