With the salt off you can see she has nostrils where one would expect eyes to be. So she may be blind for a while but as an underground critter she relies much more on her sense of smell anyway.

I like the framing of Duane watching her plod away to the drone of "on and on and on." That'll be you one day, blondie: broken, sad, but pressing on for the sake of those who need you.

That's the end of Shaensigin in Unsounded though, at least in the present day. Toldja she lived! :U

You're making me tear up with this. Poor Shaensigin. Poor inak. I hope they're happy wherever they went.

All doom and gloom, I hope there's some sunshine ahead for contrast at least!

So out of the donzen inak that were brought, some 9 or ten survived? Must confess, I'm surprised-- and sad-- that Duane never got to have a chat with big S. Understandable given how everything occurred, but still.

The Apprentice

Depending on how Duane told the story, wondering about the broader inak implications. Story makes clear that Shaensigin was okay with helping to destroy the entire Aldish state.

That single frame with the nostrils reads like closed eyes. Without your comment I wouldn't noticed that those are supposed to be nostrils.

I've been wondering... what language have they all been speaking during those scenes? I know it's more convenient to the story that Shaensigin and the inaks haven't reverted to some old lizard tongue that was passed down in secret along with other remnants of their fate and culture, but yeah. <: )

Duane's been telling the story in Continental to his audience in Lizardtown. In reality, the Aldish soldiers spoke Tainish, and the Crescians, Roger, Vampire, the rebels, lizards, and Shaensigin all spoke Continental. The Inak tongue's being crushed out of existence by humans; half of these poor two-toes probably don't speak it at all anymore, they're too young.

Hopefully the few survivors can learn from mommy shaensegin??? TT_TT

Most people don't want to die, but some of the oldest Senet beasts in this story seem to really embody the exhaustion and sorrow that true immortality would likely carry.
