I've always preferred to keep the current war between Alderode and Cresce at the periphery of this story - it's part of the setting more than part of the plot - but long ago, Quigley read a newspaper to Matty that claimed the war was started by some trespassing Crescian surveyors. A number of chapters after that, inside Uaid, Duane told Jivi that the story was a lie and the papers couldn't be trusted.

And here he's vindicated. So you have that, at least, dead man. He's standing just outside the gap in the wall listening in and raging inside his head.

And Quigley's feeling Vienne's disappointed gaze very, very keenly.

There is something poignant in the fact that he yelled ‘This is Vienne Quigley’s work!’, instead of ‘This is my wife’s work!’...

Stretch Andrews

Vienne appearing, surveyors' true identity revealed, and Foi-Hellick being mentioned. So many threads from the past are coming together! The chief is right, far too wild of a coincidence this is.

"she doesnt need it any more" ...

I feel like I re-read a lot to get why this important. Okay, so Quigley's wife never died, she went to Cresce to make constructs for them because reasons (not sure why). Also Foi Hellick is involved somehow, who may still be alive somewhere idk. Might not be a bad idea to start from the beginning

The Apprentice

Any guesses as to how Vienne research and the waterwomen in pain interact? Guessing it has something to do with their ability to regenerate from their hearts/pearls, and extending that to other FM's...

Ahaha I didn't expect her name to actually be Crumpet in-universe! I love it! My mom is going to be THRILLED.

Oh, this is gonna be inflammatory for duane, knowing his hunch was right and Cresce will have been the aggressor in his head

+++ continuity alert +++ suspicious object detected: looks like a seemingly normal pen affixed to Erm's blouse, but may be a devious pymaric because it apparenly has the ability to change its Visibility (or Opacity?) aspect randomly between panels: first seen on page 141; gone on p. 142; still gone on p. 143, panel 6; reappears on p. 143, panel 7. +++ end continuity alert +++

The Crescian smugglers who the Alds killed, have we ever seen them? Do we know who they are? It's can't be that flashback chapter with Duane and Foi-Hellick, right, the timeframe is off.
