Vvvvvvffffffffff. I mean, I was definitely spoiled on Mikaila's aliveness (she's on the front page!), but this was still a very exciting reveal. A while ago, in the patreon comments, there was some talk about all the child characters missing at least one parent, especially their moms. (I guess Jivi may still have parents, but he left and is on his own now, so... ) You answered that the fourth main child character would still have her mom. !!!!! was my reaction to making that connection. XD Or maybe you were talking about someone else. I never know with this comic.

Its not a bad twist... but it really could have been foreshadowed better. Like, in the original flashback, make it clear that She was stabbed in to the side above her lung but beneath the shoulder. I think that's what you were going for, and it would have made the fact she seemingly died from it much, much more ambigious.

Bastion can't stand collateral damage, damn the consequences, of course he'd try to save her! Also, wow, the look of grim determination on Miki's face as she attacks Bastion- his horror at being 'betrayed'? by someone he save? Does Miki believe she saved her father from damnation? Did Lem lie to both of them? Of course he did, he's a disaster flying by the seat of his pants beautiful

God, this update has made my night. Even with the Discord theory-crafting giving me an idea it'd happen it's still so satisfying to actually know! Genuinely can't wait to see how Duane reacts to this. Were his lines before the "Why/" audible to Miki?

I'm pretty excited for this. On top of all else, I've been, for a long time, wondering about and thinking about what would happen to Duane if he lost his head. I imagine he'll still be fine, and possibly will only go down for the count if that device is destroyed. Or was that not actually being placed within him? And the weeping plague? Passed on through cough syrup??? I'm so confused.

A while back, starved for more Unsounded, I did something I almost never do: read comments on the website. I regret it, because if I'd not read speculation by readers more savvy than myself, Miki's ongoing drawing of breath would have utterly blindsided me. Now I'm just worried about Duane. (My suspicions about Lem have NOT been allayed. Deserve WHAT Lem? Duane's life?)

This is wonderful, and the older Mikaila looks great. And Dwayne’s not only had his mind blown, but has been decapitated! Is this a problem for a zombie? Now I want to go through all of the key Mikaila episodes again. Is there a list? Thanks for this amazing surprise. I fell for the misdirection hook line and sinker!

Aaaaand upped my contrib. I don't know that there's really anything else to say, except: HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING THANK YOU. (sorry to anyone who I spoiled on this with comments in the comments here--I really did figure she was dead...) And...in all seriousness, if Unsounded doesn't ever again hit the level of reveal and emotional just GAAAHH that Passionate Intensity had, that's JUST FINE. I would encourage you to not fall into the trap some writers do of constantly trying to outdo their Big Moments. This feels like it was The Big One and, if that's true, great. I don't know that you can outdo it in this story (ahh, what am I talking about...Sette's Bit Moment will make me full-on ugly cry, I know it...)

I'm crying. This is one of the best, most beautiful, well executed 'actually not dead' twist I've ever seen in any piece of media. And there were so many hints! Marvelous foreshadowing work. Favorite panels are the ones where Duane catches her spell and flashes back, and of course the one where Miki multi-shanks Bastion, what a badass little girl! My emotions. T_T It's gonna take me a month to recover from this (in the best way).

Woah! Yeah, I see why these pages had to be posted together. Definitely worth it! As a non-discord reader, I did not see this coming (though I did suspect that something was up with that little co-pilot), but it is a great reveal. And there are definitely many, many questions left to be answered.

Damn, what an amazing series of pages. I definitely didn't see this coming, I can't wait to see how it continues. Is Duane dead? I doubt it but this is going to be a huge shock to him and drastically change his motivations. Duane has seemed aimless for a while now, following Sette and Quigly around, but now having seen his daughter alive, I feel like we'll have a driven Duane in the future.

Ok, a theory in favour of Lem: He had heard that someone was planning his death, because Bodie & composer position & plague affecting SSaelits more than Geffies & politics. So he thought "Hey, I know this guy who wants to make a lifelike plod out of a willing suspect. If he's going to die anyways, why not recycle my good brother?" Thing is, I don't know why Lem would need Miki to be there that night?

Hang on, who is saying that this _is_ the weeping plague after all? I'm proposing the following scenario: Bodie: Hey, we need to infect one good Ssaelit with the Weeping Plague and blame it on the Geffies & Crescians so we have a good reason to start doing the same to them! Bastion: Yeah I can totally do that. *crosses fingers* Lem: What, kill my brother? Bastion: Oh, you know, I can heal the plague these days. In some sense. No worries. *crosses fingers really hard* Lem: Ah alright then. Go ahead. He can take a punch or two. Bodie: We need a witness. Someone who can't be traced back to me. Lem: Mmm... mmmm... Mickey? Bodie: Yeah, whatever, let's roll. Bastion: Ok, I'll bottle the plague in some cough syrup vials. And I'll totally not turn him into a talking thinking casting zombie instead because that's the kind of thing I'm into. Seriously.

Ashley, I just wanted to say - you really outdone yourself with that last Lem face. It's straight up haunting. This man is so not in the control of the way situation is unfolding. Seeing it in HQ truly makes me glad I am a Patreon supporter!

I wanna be hooting and hollering that I was right all along on the Mickie front, but as expected, the reveal and it's implications are emotionaly devastating, and to help nothing, Duane got decapitated, which is making me real worried... Great job in re-upping the tension right after the reveal. And OUCH, that sequence with the spell catch and the animated panel... how economical and evocative... my gut is still twisting from the RAWNESS of the feelings and realization this must have ellicited in our poor zombie dad...

I have a long-unasked pronunciation question. Is the final "c" in "Cresce" pronounced? Is it "Kress," or " kresk"; "kressian," or " kresskian"? Or none of the above? Short "e" or long?

Sorry, sorry, sorry for so many comments on this post (in fairness, it's a lot to digest), but... um. You wouldn't kill off Duane, would you? Only after his recent character-improving revelations, it would be tragic, and therefore somehow valid from a storytelling perspective. Only I think he's still key to Illganyag's plans. So he's okay, right? I mean, as alive as he can be, being dead... probably not at all "okay," but... you probably can't answer this, can you? Aaargh. Last question/comment from me on this post. Promise. (This story is so all-consumingly engaging.)

Not so much shock (after reading all the hypothesizing in the comments in recent weeks), but definitely whole bucketsful of awe! Amazing reveal. The whole of it laid bare and confirmed like that! One question: am I right in thinking that “the appliance” somehow gathered all of Duane’s still-present memories before the Khert could snatch them up, and sucked them back into his physical form? And if so, did I also see that Mikaila snagged a bit of said ephemera glowing in her palm before it could reincorporate? The missing memory, perhaps of seeing his daughter actually alive in that last moment?

Just catching up to it all now. I'm just in awe. I put on music and poured over the pages. Just wave after wave of emotion and suspense. When she tacit casted and he caught it, and saw it was the same colour too. I heard the silence on the wind, I'm telling you. And Mikaila making mince meat of Bastion. Bone chilling stuff really.

I too am shook, but I also can't help but worry that we've just watched Miki learn a HARSH lesson in real time that night: this cruel world is quick to kill those who are good, before they are wise. That'd be a real dangerous fact to take home right when your new stepdad is Lemon. Here's hoping Miki still holds onto humanity and kindness in some way!
