Someone called Ruckmearkha's name there, and the kids certainly don't know it, so maybe one of Ruck's Black Tongue escorts will stop him before he wreaks (misplaced) vengeance for Chea. Or maybe they won't.

It's interesting. Ruck isn't "hungry" the way mortals experience it, but his manner here is definitely hungry. Guess that predator snake instinct is really strong.

So, here's my theory: the kid's seen too much. Darkest or Maur are going to use the Soul Knife on him to cut out his memories from the last few minutes. It won't be perfect, but they will have a technique for targeting recent memories. Kid gets released, alive but loopy and missing the last thirty minutes of his life. We get a look at just how well the Soul Knife works. That is, of course, if Ruck can be persuaded not to lose his cool at being interfered with. But something tells me Ruck isn't too interested in the kid, because children typically don't interest him-- they're boring. So he's not invested in keeping this one so much as he'd be invested in reasserting his dominance over his new, uh... coven.

Ruck is a terrifying character to me because I absolutely can't predict what he's gonna do. He's the wildest card.
