Two pages today. Hard to wake a Sharteshanian up with violence but kindness? That might do.

Jivi got a healthy smack of perspective seeing himself being an asshole to Sette, I think Duane needs a similar reality check (or at least he needs to follow up more on the self revelations he got last chapter) Dude's featuring in the bad memory cloud alongside Nary - that's a very bad sign.

Ok, there's the cuddle. Things are on the up. Where are they going to find a cup of tea in this mess though...

Mister Scarecrow

I always forget how quickly things are moving for our kids. Today? And right into all this with no time to process after dealing with Duane and Quigs on the ride over? And then Sea-Anemone-Cockman Starfish? Still on his way too I imagine. To quote Boromir: "Give them a moment, for pity's sake!"

Mister Scarecrow

I really love how childlike Jivi is in these pages, and especially how the horrified expression at the end of page 101 really brings that across. Mainly because he is a child, but more importantly because he's having an important moment of maturity about how his actions are perceived and how they affect others. His immature cruelty, shown to him from Sette's perspective, shown alongside Sette's immature cruelty toward herself, is really well juxtaposed against this really good moment of childlike revelation. Followed by both of them starting the process of coming to terms with Sara's death, and Jivi also coming to terms with the way his actions carried more hurt than he intended. Maybe the casual villain was inside us all along. Good stuff.

I don't know quite how to articulate my emotions about these pages, but they hit me in a big way. Good on Jivi.

Mean makes mean, but sometimes kind makes kind

It's especially potent to realize that most of Jivi's conversations with Sette are hostile ones born out of prejudice towards her nationality. Sette might be a little shit sometimes, but his aggravation toward her is only amplified by his stereotyping. He simply believed she was incapable of feeling hurt by his words, because to him Shartshanians are incapable of feeling like that.

Plucky Pariah

I wish Matty were there to see this, he'd be so proud!

Tony Wilkey

What a doozie. The flow, the colors, the expressions. This is just an emotional shotgun blast of pages.

Is that crying Smoke Eel the one that was manifesting as Duane just before? It's coming from roughly the right spot relative to Sette and Jivi but I can't tell if the cape is part of its tail or another one nearby. From what appear to be its eyes in the middle panel, it looks like that same eel is still too emotionally overcome to really turn towards Sette and the baby clinging to it is still weeping while the others seem to be regrouping after being driven back by that positive act of kindness. If that was Smoke Duane, it seems interesting that eel seems capable of any level of remorse. Especially since the Smoke Eel that image of Nary spun off of apparently isn't going through the same emotional rollercoaster.

Ladile

Those last three panels have some of the most sad, miserable expressions in the entire comic to date. Right up there with Mikaila striking back at Bastion. I wasn't expecting to get choked up when I read tonight's update but here we are.

Flyfly

Oww, it's a shame print version will miss out on painghost-Jivi Crazy Eyes.

Madison

Yep. I’m very proud of him. This is how you do it, kiddo.

idonotlikepeas

Lord, imagine being able to look at your own stupid ass through the eyes of someone you haven't treated very well. Now there's a valuable experience.

jumanji-mongie

Wow, this page packs such an emotional punch.

School of Night

I was completely misreading the last few pages, but this set helped clear things up.

Nikaleles

Jivi will always be best boy...

HandsomePenguin

There's those green eyes we all know and love.

The Clag

Pack up your stuff Matty, there's a new best boy in town :D

Colin Suess

I've a friend who hasn't been keeping up since some time after volume 2. She told me her theory that she imagines that Sette is partly Duane's dead daughter and Duane is the leftover bits of Ssael. I didn't have the heart to tell her that it's worse than she could imagine. So, so much worse.

SET

Jivi remains the best of them and certainly nothing bad shall EVER befall our hero
