I think that Sette loves her Da but has, thanks to her time away from home, grown to not really *like* him. But that feels disloyal. She's already had at least one or two dream sequences where she's assured Nary that she hasn't forgot or where he's accused her of wanting to run away and let Duane be her new Da. Now Duane's finally asked the question - 'What am I to you? What do you want me to be?' - and her expression on panel 6 reads to me as a surprised/guilty 'oh no he can see right through me' expression. And she answers it much like I'd expect a child to answer - 'I don't know, I just know I don't want you to leave.' For all the shit they've put each other through, Duane's got her back and probably makes her feel safer than anyone back home ever did. Other random thought: Sette says she'll be in charge of the family soon. I wonder if that's wishful thinking or does she think she'll go home and off Nary and claim her Frummagem birthright? Hey, then she'll have the best of both worlds - she'll have done Nary proud by ruthlessly rising up to replace him but Duane will still be there to watch her back and be ol' reliable. Final thought: There's blood in the water and the sharks are circling. Best watch yourselves...

What I think she can't admit to anyone, least of all herself, most especially not Duane - what the loneliest girl who ever was needs most of all is friend. A friend who won't hurt her, who won't die and leave her, who won't betray her or try and kill her or sell her out. A friend she's not scared to let actually see her without all her defences, and not scared of being hurt thereby. I don't think they're there yet, and I think Sette's screwing that up right now, but they're still closer than they've ever been, both of them, to mutually being seen, and not scared.

Methinks milady's well-established boner for Final Fantasy Tactics occludes that this is actually Chrono Trigger, and Sette is trying to collect all the weird endings. Like abandoning the main quest halfway through to return to Sharteshane. It strikes me that if she *were* to go back, having Duane with his "DM's girlfriend" level of power as her terrifying wizard enforcer would give her a much better chance of actually establishing control of the crime gang. Not that he should or would do it.

Wait, khert ghosts things seem to listen to her and/or her amulet. Did she just wish upon the entire khert, where all future and past is, to be forever with Duane? That's uh... an event with possible Consequences if I read this all correctly. I know more than one story where such a wish is what put some cosmological forces into action.

I think the amulet lets Sette talk to the ghosts in Duane's plod bod, and they follow her instructions. So I don't *think* this is going to have any effect on Duane's soul. Excited to find out though!
