I'm not sure exactly how long they've been down there, but they have been doing time consuming things. Such as roasting the Basilisk, tending to the Golems, and Laios trying to eat the paintings. They reckon they have a full month before the dragon fully digests Falin, so they have a bit of leeway. Though I imagine the point of no return for resurrection would be sooner than a month so unnecessary distractions feel like they're taking a risk. It's hard to figure out how much of a risk without having precise calculations.
