You're reading the LN?! That's great 😭 you're going to get ahead of me I'm reading 日本語で so slowly I've only just read the first episode's parts. The how many colours thing wasn't really about the colours of the powders, but the colours of the flames they produce when burned. Your questions on how the four top concubines work, did you want answers or to wait for the show to gradually explain more? I also find the freckle thing odd, because freckles pretty, but different times and standards and all that. I actually thought, not that the freckles were fake, but that she'd some facial injury that she'd already covered with makeup.

Lol I am forever impressed by your ability to read the language if only because I can’t fathom myself getting good enough at it to even start the books in anything other than English. Makes sense now lol. That kind of question is more just me thinking out loud, feel free to let me know if I’ve just missed the answer, but otherwise if the show is going to bring it up don’t worry about it. She does go a little bit further into why she kept doing it after getting to the palace in the books, but this is also one of those cases I think where the art just isn’t living up to the book’s description, as the description in the book makes it sound like a more extreme affair than just a few small freckles. The book goes so far as to say her use of makeup is masterful, with a few extra details for how her face is made up.
