I have no words for defence for the guy you do not like. For all the retainers being kids, there is a sort-of logic there. I think the idea is by raising them as siblings they will be protective of each other, which is more difficult if they are all significantly older than Tokiyuki. There should absolutely be adult bodyguards as well though.
