It really does throw a whole bunch of information all at once. I think a few misunderstandings will get cleared up next episode so I'll save the info dump till then The yatagarasu is from Japanese mythology. It's a three-legged crow god which symbolises guidance / divine intervention in human affairs. It seems to appear in stories around Japan's first emperor, but I have yet to read those. 八咫烏 which has kanji for 8 (not 3 for the legs which annoyed me), but it's not meaning 8 on it's own. 八咫 is 8 hand spans (where hand spans are measureing "the length of the thumb and middle finger spread out (about 18 cm)" BUT this 八咫 is no longer meaning specifically 144cm and is just meaning "large" in general. So. Big Crow. Not Wingspan-is-Specifically-8-Hands-Wide Crow. (If I have understood the etymology correctly)
