Yes! This is really good! I'd been hearing vague compliments about the manga for a couple years now (I checked bookwalker and it seems the first volume came out 23rd January 2017?) but hadn't actually picked it up until the anime came out. (Not that I've read much yet, first two chapters?) For what Atelier means, I had heard it as more of a tailoring thing before. Apparently it can be any kind of artist / designer workshop. Fun fact in the Japanese title more literally translates to Pointy Hat Atelier. I'm glad you agree with me on the mother being off for telling Coco she doesn't want her to leave. I don't think she's too bad aside from that, but that moment was uncomfortable. Also, the part where she gets frozen/crystallised (I assumed the latter?) two things from the manga. First it more snuck up on her, the crystals bursting out the roof first sure is dramatic, but it's different. There really wasn't time for her to realise what was happening or to stop anything. She took one step outside and was caught up and then it burst through walls and stuff. Second, and this is visible slightly in the anime but more obvious in the manga, it's not just that she got engulfed by the crystals but she seems to have literally become crystallised herself. There are a couple more differences, but I do not want to criticise the anime too much because it is awesome! But also, there are things I prefer how they are in the manga already 😅 I dunno how I'd feel if I read it before seeing an episode though.
