I think it is just the height, but combined with her lack of magical knowledge. The scene you were looking for was before the opening, where this say this time of year it's at its highest elevation. Though, the lower ones looked deadly enough. Agott seemed expecting her to give up, not die, and she passed the test at ten? And kids take this test before they learn to draw any magic? So like it can't be *that* dangerous. It's a little clearer in the manga that you can take any three items, and Agott just gave Coco those two because they're simple enough to understand. For a kid growing up with this stuff, they'd have more options. If anything Coco went above and beyond with inventing a new spell.
