Yes! I love this episode! I do think it makes sense Tartah wouldn't have memorised the colours of all the powders, it doesn't make sense for the doctor's to know which vial is which based solely on their colours so it makes even less sense for him to know. Plus, the ingredients are different colours depending what state they're in, and trying to memorise which combination is which of ~10 separate words that mean nothing to you. I think it's very hard to associate a word with something if the word doesn't mean anything. I think the shots back to his abandoned hat were showing that he's leaving behind what a witch "should" be (aka, someone who can see colours), and becoming a witch who does things his own way (has accommodations for his disability).
