Omegastar

I wouldn't say that the breakdown between Glimmer and Adora is not well-developed. Its a combination of several elements: 1) Glimmer suddenly becoming queen and being unprepared to handle the responsibilities. 2) The war against the Horde going badly, which puts immense pressure on Glimmer due to her new responsibilities. 3) Adora and Bow going off on their own, leaving Glimmer behind in her castle, causing her to grow resentful. Specifically Adora trying to 'protect' Glimmer because she thinks those were Queen Angella's final words to her (they're not, but Adora interprets them as such). 4) Glimmer letting Shadow Weaver walk free, and accepting her teaching. This is a huge issue because Shadow Weaver is quite literally a child abuser who inflicted terrible abuse on both Catra AND Adora - Adora's abuse isn't as visible as Catra's, and in fact by making Catra's abuse so visible, the show kinda pushes Adora's abuse into the background. But she was very much abused. To put it plainly, Glimmer letting Shadow Weaver go free like that is a betrayal of her relationship with Adora. From Adora's perspective her best friend is hanging out with a person who abused her as a child (Not to mention that Glimmer should know Shadow Weaver is untrustworthy, because Shadow Weaver cursed Glimmer in season 1 AND attempted to wipe Adora's mind in front of her). 5) A Horde saboteur poking and prodding at the growing rift between Glimmer and Adora, and doing everything in their power to push them further apart. 6) But the actual underlying cause is finally revealed in this episode - specifically, Glimmer's line that causes Adora to tear up at 17:10. Its such an awful line. The psychology behind it is that Glimmer actually blames herself for her mother's sacrifice - because her mother told her over and over to come up with a plan and NOT to rush ahead. Then she rushed ahead anyway and and now her mother is gone. And sure, its not literally her fault - she didn't activate the portal that caused her mom to sacrifice herself - but emotions like guilt and grief often are not logical. The problem for Glimmer is that she is unable to handle this guilt, so she unloads it onto Adora, because Adora *could* have sacrificed herself instead of her mother, but didn't. Adora survived. Her mother didn't. So, in her unresolved grief, she blames Adora for it. I look forward to your reaction to the next episode, its my favorite in the whole show. I suspect you will enjoy it as well :)
