How many dragon eggs do they have if it's part of the entrance exam? Why do the dragons let the ponies have the eggs? How many eggs got broken my ponies who messed up? I was under the impression there aren't exactly a lot of dragons, but I could be wrong.

Context given with future dragon stuff I have to assume they only really had the one. Dragon eggs in fiction are usually magic resistant as well so it's easy to think that one had never been successfully broken.
