As promised in our recent Sundance bonus episode, Keith and Tasha have reconvened to discuss one of the standout films from that festival, and one that's already picking up awards-season momentum, Judas and the Black Messiah. Together they discuss the film's nuanced performances and its relationship to the historical record regarding the assassination of of Illinois Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton, as well as to a recent trend of films exploring the civil rights movement and revolutionary politics.

While watching the film I couldn't help but think of the documentary Let the Fire Burn. It's only 8 years old, and, again, a documentary but sadly they share similar stories and scenes.

They also have it streaming for free on their Vimeo page.

A good pairing if it weren't a short film would be Agnes Varda's 'Black Panthers.' Some footage from her (excellent) movie is even included in 'Judas' in the opening and closing sequences.
