Inspired by the recent Netflix series Blockbuster and the podcast Video Archives, Keith, Scott, and Tasha recently got together to talk through their recollections, fond and otherwise, of VHS and the video-store era, from misleading box art and “unrated” oddities to tracking knobs and rewinding machines. The cassettes and stores themselves may be gone (mostly — shout out to Four Star Video Rental!), but the memories live on, though they may have gotten a little fuzzy from too many pauses and rewinds.

This one really spoke to me - especially the discussion about VHS box copy. Where to begin? My dad once fell for it even harder than Tasha's dad when he brought home "The Exterminator" despite being told to rent "The Terminator" by my mom. I too saw "Gremlins" too young (albeit at home) and likewise did not find it funny in the least. And last but certainly not least, as a child of 6 or 7 I have a searing memory of finding a copy of "I Spit on Your Grave" (!) on the local grocery store (!!) video rack.
