resident evil scene tool dev (log) (Patreon)

I think it's time I posted some of the stuff I usually research to fill up my poor Patreon and feed my starving Patrons.

This is a RE scene I made for a friend last year, it's Heisenberg's material room. It took me about 3-4 days to learn from scratch how to extract and fix materials, and do lighting. I got some help from @Scamarai1 along the way.

In EEVEE it looks pretty good, but that's a different story once you drop a character in without any modifications.

Actually, the first thing I worked on was this chase scene that flashes by in RE8, right below this scene. Since it's relatively small, I could use it to learn how to handle materials and scene object info.

Setting that aside, I just tried Blender 5.2's new solver for cloth simulation, and it feels really good. Performance is way better than before. I think I can use it for some longer animations down the road. Hard to believe that someone with a mocap suit (me) has barely used it for animation until now.

But Blender's armature modifier performance is still terrible. Otherwise I could drag a Chris with physics-based jiggle and body hair over to mess with the cloth.

So you might be wondering, why am I bringing up so much stuff that was already done last year in a tool dev log?

That image looks a bit different from the one before.

Yeah, because I imported this one in 2 minutes using the new RE SCN import tool I developed, and this is the direct preview.

The lighting still needs work, but the materials are pretty much done, and the asset layout needs zero manual input. I've already got it working with RE 8 and 9 scene imports, and I expect I'll be able to do more with it down the line.

Honestly though, I'm not that into Leon. I'll probably focus on Hunk and Zeno instead?

But not so fast. I expect I'll need to finish several more models before it's their turn. Hunk will be relatively simple, though. If you're interested in them, you can let me know through the Survey or in the comments.
