I know the father’s skin tone was less grey in prior strips. is this just a lighting thing? Or something explained elsewhere?

John, are Grandma McGillicuttie and Zane some form of undead? And maybe Zoey as well? Sorry to be direct about this, but bluish Grey skin tones really aren't normal, unless you're really, REALLY committed Goth types...
