I still don't understand the point of that one, and why didn't anyone actually look for him? Feel like it was intended as something that would come back in season 4 but we were robbed

I figured Marial was arrested for helping Elizabeth cover up Johanna’s murder—cleaning out her room, and the “‘she left in a carriage story.’” Later, Marial found out Peter did it (not Elizabeth as she assumed), and only THEN, told Catherine. On one hand, she was trying to save her friend from her toxic relationship with Peter. On the other, I think Catherine recognized that Marial only decided to tell her about Joanna’s death when it suddenly benefited her, as Mariel still wanted Peter dead and this reveal was sure to enrage Catherine.
