I know you guys reacted to this almost 3 years ago so idk if you care about what was supposed to happen in s2, but Mike Flanagan posted the ending on his Tumblr, and the old couple is Ilonka and Kevin in a past life. They are soulmates, and find each other in every lifetime, and they wanted to spend this short one in the house they built together. :(( When Kevin and Ilonka meet, that's why they think they've seen each other before.
