Love your reactions. I’m begging you to react to Big Boys. Stars Dylan Llewelyn who plays James in Derry Girls. It’s hilarious and heartbreaking and very gay. 3 seasons of 6 episodes each. I believe it’s on Hulu in the US.

I know you don't need this but I love this show and just need to rant. We were fleabags coping mechanism, we really only saw what she wanted us to, to express that noone else got her. She always knew what other people were going to say and do. It's why in the first season she's panicked that we learnt that she left with her besties bf. She wanted to hide from us. The priest could see us cause he was the only one that she felt comfortable enough to be around and allowed to see her vulnerability. So I took it that when she left us behind, she realised that she need to stop with that behaviour, to be more vulnerable and in tune with the real world, Rather than be in her own head. Idk, apologies for my perspective rant, I just love it

So, Pheobe Waller Bridge has said: Season 1 was based on her one woman play. Which was about a girl whose best friend just died and she’s created an imaginary best friend (the audience) to cope. The first time she talks to us in Season 1 is when she invents us. But slowly we realize she’s been hiding a lot, and misleading to us to seem like she’s doing better than she is… but at the end she vents and cries and begins to face her reality, gets a loan, and starts her recovery process. That was the end of the story for years… and PWB said there would only be a season two IF she found something meaningful to say. The idea for season 2 came when she thought, “what if the need for an imaginary friend started popping up again and she doesn’t understand why?” Like it’s not a coping mechanism anymore but a compulsion in an otherwise healthy life, and she’s not sure why it’s there. We’re looming around her, watching, and nudging that she still has feelings left to process. This season is more about the love she has to give and “finding the right place to put it” as the priest says in his speech. She realizes she didn’t know where to put all the love she had after her mom died, then boo took it, and now it has no where to go. She thinks she wants the priest, but really he’s just there to help her realize that she’s not broken, she’s lovable, and capable of being loved in return. But first, she has to love herself. Just as he has to put himself “god” first. She walks away knowing she is going to be okay, she is her own best friend now. And she doesn’t need us anymore.

Yay! So glad you guys loved Fleabag. I rewatch this season all the time. It’s so damn good. Y’all should watch Crashing. It’s only 1 season and it’s another Phoebe Waller Bridge show. It’s a lot of fun and has Jonathan Bailey being completely unhinged.

Popped into the patreon specifically for these reactions and have LOVED them! British TV recommendations as requested: Rivals, and Normal People. Rivals is a super fun show about rich, upper-class brits in the 80's all backstabbing and banging each other with the backdrop of the TV industry, and Normal People is an Irish romantic drama following a couple from teen years to adulthood. You don't have to worry about cancellation for them either: Rivals is currently filming season 2 with an extended run of episodes thanks to how well received it was (practically unheard of in the current TV industry) and Normal People is a limited series. Think both you and the popstars (and selfishly me) would really love both reactions!!

Love your reactions so much, this ending makes me emotional to think she has grown so much🥹 I sometimes forget you’re reacting to something and just watch you guys instead of the show/movie, especially when Benji starts singing and it annoys Rizzo 😂👏🏻

BexFangirl

I can't believe we're already here. I always found the ending was perfect. It really hurt, but I think it was done perfectly. "It'll pass" will always be iconic. One of the lines from shows I quote most often, even if it's just in my head.

BexFangirl

You really should consider watching Crashing. Since it's also by Phoebe Waller-Bridge it has a similar taste in the humour department. And it has Jonathan Bailey. So once again highly recommend.

Aces92

I definitely second watching crashing and also big boys both such great shows not too long and both have very similar feels of really funny stuff blended well with a mixture of heartwarming and heartbreaking feels

Molly

Something mildly similar, but American: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Sylvia

I knew Rizzo was gonna love this show and was not disappointed!

Rebecca Corrado

Sending you guys some auntie-hugs. That show is rough.

Chewing Gum has a similar vibe to Fleabag, Michaela Cole

Bex W.

I recommend This Way Up. It's on Hulu and it's by an Irish comedian, Aisling Bea. It's very similar to Fleabag and it sadly also only has 2 seasons but that's due to the pandemic. But it's very good. It's funny but it also examines mental illness and how people react to having one or knowing someone who does. It's also for a great sister dynamic ❤️

Lizzie Beth

I’m glad you enjoyed ❤️ I loved that in many ways Claire being the one to have the big ‘moment’ in the last episode showed how not so very different they were — Claire just took longer to let it out. That in many ways the show is more about BOTH sisters start to finish than I think we even still give it credit for, esp as it starts with their lecture meet up almost right away.

Lizzie Beth

Also, another show recommendation (if you haven’t already watched it on your own) is Hacks!! Very well written, complex characters you both cheer for and cringe from. Hilarious side stories too.

Aaliyah Brown

hey, loving these reactions. i just wanna make a movie suggestion. First Wives Club🤭

pee

Another show recommendation, that’s not very similar but I enjoyed the shit out of. Adults, it’s on Hulu and Disney+ it’s the best

Daniel

Not exactly the same but bearing in mind you enjoyed this, I'd really recommend The Marvellous Mrs Maisel. Funny, great characters and interesting dynamics, and I think you'd find a lot to talk about

Joao

Next show, What we do in the shadows 🦇

Reef Sami

You should watch the Hollywood reporter Comedy Actress Roundtable that Phoebe was on its so so good and she explains how it was only a play then turned to one season show then the response was so huge that Amazon begged for another season!

IT’LL NEVER PASS!! This is a link for a great analysis a girl does on Fleabag. It even explains the fox, and it’s a must watch https://youtu.be/q_matplWeBE?si=NBuLTABqbtRHLg2b This show is devastating in the most beautiful way. It’s bittersweet and hopeful, and sad and emotional. It’s everything and we love it for it. And it’ll never pass. Thank you guys for watching this.

One of my favorite Fleabag facts is why she decided to do a second season at all. She was one and done. The show was based on her one-woman play and the first season ended how the original material ended. Then enter Hot Priest and noticing the 4th wall breaks: https://ew.com/tv/2019/08/08/fleabag-season-2-phoebe-waller-bridge-reason/ I love this show so much and love that you loved it!

Laura Shepherd

Fleabag did a lot of healing between seasons (as shown in the montage in ep 1). Her cafe is thriving so professionally she's doing well. I think her relationship with the priest showed she's ready for a true and genuine love now instead of only seeing romantic relationships as transactional and only about sex. They were two troubled souls who are on different paths in life and even though their connection and love was genuine it wasn't meant to be. At least Claire got the romantic happy ending though!

ShanvaNZ

I feel like 'the end of the fucking world' could be a good follow on from fleabag. An odd, dark, and funny English show. Fair warning it is also only 2 seasons

Izzy Thompson

Lovesick I think is another great British show in a similar vein

flechesbleues

One of the best British shows I watched last year was Lost Boys and Fairies. Only 3 episodes in that one! It's excellent though, about a gay couple going through the process of adoption. I cried. Worth looking it up if you can find it over there (it's still on BBC iPlayer over here). Another excellent British show from recent years was It's a Sin, about the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, which came out during Covid times, which somehow gave it even more poignance. That one's just 5 episodes, all excellent. It was written by Russell T Davies, who also created the original Queer as Folk (also a great watch, if you haven't seen it - and potentially an interesting case study in whether shorter is better - the original UK show was a similar length to Fleabag, but the US adaptation went on for 5 seasons! Both great shows in their own ways, I think). Have you guys seen Ted Lasso? I caught up with it only recently and loved it. Not as much about sports as you'd think, given that it's set in and around a sports team - it's surprisingly emotional, and funny! There's a great pre-planned 3-season story arc (though they've recently started making a 4th season, I believe). Not British per se, but set over here and starring mainly British actors (plus Jason Sudekis).

Just so everyone knows I was hereeeeee lol God bless🤍🤍🤍
