Ahoy, me hearties!

We are finally back to a more frequent schedule, and this Cap'n is now here for ye to answer yer questions, hear your suggestions, and deliver the spicy popcorn we all grew to love!!

And what better way to start this post than by sharing last month's survey results! Are you ready to see what the voice of the majority is? Because I certainly am!! Let's go at it!! 😍😍😍

Part 1 - General Results 🤔💭

The vast majority of my sailors (76.5%) are keen on more Critical Role content, but fret not, for it doesn't mean yer affections for other Universes have waned! For example, we've got a strong emphasis on Overwatch, League of Legends, and (no surprise here) - Baldur's Gate!

When it comes to Original Characters Eria seems to be taking the lead (69% ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)), and that warms this Captain's heart like a cozy fire on a chilly night. 🥰🥰🥰

In a delightful twist, a resounding 80% of ye are eager to dive into Soulgasm - music to this Captain's ears! 🎻🎶💖

II. Critical Role ships 🎲

Many of you clamored for more Pike and Fearne in various combinations, as well as a return to previous Critical Role campaigns and exploration of unique ship dynamics. It appears that while many of you appreciate a more intense and less ordinary experience, we do have a diverse crew onboard! There are also two staunch groups of Jester enthusiasts and critics, sparking a never-ending debate about the 'right amount of Jester' since voices from both sides are hearty and true!

III. Our Main Treasure! ‍🍿

Some of ye mentioned a yearning for more animations, while over half of the sailors are 'alright with anything' when it comes to the future of animations. The votes were nearly equally divided among various animation options: maintaining the current schedule, crafting more elaborate animations less frequently, or embracing an experimental and surprising approach. See by yerselves, me hearties!:

While crafting more animations per month is practically beyond reach, it warms this Captain's heart to see that they hold a special place in your hearts! (Apologies for the weird % sum; this Cap'n forgot to unclick the 'multiple choice' option' 😅)

And thus, this happens to be a great place to jump to the next part of our post:

Part 2 - Experimental Updates 💡

Given the good spirits of my gorgeous sailors and the positiveness towards trying new approaches when it comes to animations, I've been thinking about how to keep raising the bar and deliver better quality every time. Some changes are coming, yet before talking about those, I want to come clean about a few things and share the reasons why I think this change is so important because not everything has been as great as I might have made it sound (TL.DR. at the end).

I. Unsustainable schedule - Health Issues ❤️‍🩹

In the last months and years of this journey, I've been going through constant high levels of stress, lack of sleep, depression, and a general state of panic. Lately, my depression got very severe and made me think about quitting everything (I mean, everything), my health also declined for the worse, and I started losing hair like only a few times I experienced before. And so I came to the conclusion that this wasn't sustainable in the long run. Not only that, but I felt a great sense that this wasn't a life worth living.

My personal relationships got significantly hit, and I, like a wounded animal, was unconsciously isolating myself in a lonely corner of self-pity. In addition, the noticeable decline in quality in the last couple of animations and the lack of interaction from my side were simply the cherry on top.

II. The Cause 🔒

The main reason for this was the monthly delivery of animations.

You see, creating a monthly animation is, at least for me, extremely demanding to say the least: spending 12-16 hours a day (I am not kidding) for weeks a time working on the artworks, rigs, animation, postproduction, organizing the voice actresses/actors/composer/etc. Staying up until 4-6 AM on the last days of every month to make sure we could deliver just to wake up on the 1st of the next month and repeat the process.

This has been going on for years, and it has taken a great toll on my creativity, my capacity to stay positive about the future, and overall every single aspect of my life.

This all has been my own responsibility. I did this to myself. But there might be a solution, and it is all thanks to the new perspective you've given me in the last survey, my beautiful sailors:

III. The Experimental Solution 🗝️

I believe it is time to try a new approach so we can push this adventure together much, much further and not lose our health and hope on the way. We can make it unique and worth it on every single opportunity, and I think I might even know how!

We are changing the monthly animation schedule for longer and more developed productions. 📣

This will keep my thirst for improvement and new challenges alive and well with the possibility of getting proper sleep, spare time every now and then, and space for experimenting. Starting from multi-scene artworks all the way to giving more context and developing a sense of storytelling that will only get better with time! And who knows! Maybe I will get some of my lost hair back! :'D

The only caveat is that we will have a more flexible delivery schedule, yet I will keep you updated on the development of each piece, animation, scene, and idea. After all, you are my muse, my beautiful crew!

Note: A poll shall come a bit later today to decide the next biggie animation to come!! Please don't forget to choose your favorite!!

IV. The consequence 💀️

I am sure that more than just a few of you will not be happy with this decision and will decide to part ways. And to all of you, I tell you: I understand--I understand, and I want to thank you for all the support throughout the years and for making this adventure a reality. You are incredible, and I will always be grateful for what you did ❤️❤️❤️

Yet, if you decide to stay, I want to thank you twice for all this time and for the ones to come because I shall do my best to find a balance and, with time, create the things that up to today I couldn't.

I will make it worth it, my lanterns.

Thank you so, so very much.

---

TL.DR.: Animation production will take longer, but animations shall also be longer and better produced. They will be delivered as soon as they are finished, and we shall receive constant updates with WIPs for the crew to enjoy and know the state of the production. Polls stay, the crew shall have the last word on the pieces and animations that shall come =)

Take your time cap! Health both mental and physical always comes first. We are your crew through thick and thin.

Jimofthee

Make sure you take the time you need. 💜 love your stuff!

Stephen Tharp

Totally understandable Captain. The crew will ba k and support you! Looking forward to our future adventures

Legion92

Totally fine with animations taking longer. Wouldn't want you to keel over, after all. And to answer the question, there's no such thing as too much Jester

Zachary Alexander

Keep that head up and that heart full captn your journey is far from over! 💥👊🏻❤️‍🔥

CaedoGeist

Your health and well being is more important than anything. You do what you need to do to be happy and healthy. We support you in whatever you need, Cap. <3

Dragon0921

You're health and happiness is first and foremost, Capt.n'! NONE of us want to put you in a position that compromises either! 🥺 You take all the time you need to deliver your amazing art and animations and we'll be here ready to enjoy them (and help scheme future ones. 😈) I'm very excited to see what poll you have cooking up today! 👀💦 I have a feeling I know two options and they'll definitely be very hard choices! 😱 I will say...we ABSOLUTELY need to get A-Code piece going to complete the holy trinity! 😇 lol We love you, Capt.n'! Your crew is with you through thick and thin! 🏴‍☠️🫡❤️

Aiden Holm

I would stay no matter what. I've been here too long now to just leave. Even if the captain were to decide to quit animations all together, if it meant that the captain's mental, physical, and emotional health would improve. Please take care of yourself! Even if you have to take a break

MrRedPanda

Oh cap, your health is way more important to us than a constant output of beautiful animations. Take your time, all the time that you need. We will have the patience for you.

Restyn Lovell

Don't you be driving yourself into an early grave over some smut, Capt'n.

FaceMustache

Great update and interesting results for the poll. More importantly though; PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF! Your health and wellbeing is number 1, no matter what. Nobody wants a sad Captain. We only want whats best for you, and you should make that your priority.

Master of Chiefs

So glad to see you prioritize your health. I often wondered from just seeing your content on Twitter, how you crank stuff out so fast!

John Miller

Your health absolutely comes first! Although I am interested in seeing what you can cook up with more time per animation, I hope you don't feel pressured to be so ambitious with each one that it doesn't actually make things easier for you. I'm on board either way, Cap'n!

Drakefance5

Hey Cap, even if it's 1 animation every 3 months, I'll still be happy. Health always comes above all else. So take care of yourself, Don't be a slave to the work.

TheDumbToad

Had no idea it was this bad, I've been there too, so I wish you the best and be careful not to burn out managing 2 different projects at the same time. If you feel like you get overwhelmed with work I think most people along with myself would be cool if you kept this patreon on pause for a bit longer. Health comes first!

turnt gnurtley

I can't say it doesn't feel disappointing to get fewer animations, as it means we'll see fewer different characters and scenes brought to life. But knowing now what it was costing you, Captain, and having felt similar feelings and impulses in the past, a healthy schedule for you with less frequent animations is the best option. The only option, really! We all love your art, and now we understand exactly how hard you were working and how much you were hurting before to make it so quickly and so well. But nobody has to suffer to make good art; especially not like that. You made incredible things before, and you will continue to be able to make them now. You'll probably just kinda naturally make even better art now, with better physical and mental health! And, as a bit of a side note if you read this, it'd be fun to hear more details about your experimental solution, once you've settled on them more fully. I'm interested in seeing/hearing about what you might want to experiment with in your art, in the future!

John Folmer

Captain, you have been a very good person and parasocial friend to me for a few years now. Which is why I say that you have nothing to apologize for with changing the animation schedule or anything you feel like. You have worked very hard on a daily basis for years now, delivering the highest quality of artwork and I say you have more than earned the right to take it easier. No dip in number of animations or drawings will make me leave. I'm here to support you for the long haul.

Alejandro Carrillo

I rarely speak on here, but in this case I felt as I should as I have the same feeling here as I do with most everything else in life. Good things take time, let them. If an animation takes 2 month I will gladly wait. More wait time for more quality is always worth it in my opinion, and I dont mean just the art, but the quality of life of the artist.

Kanan

We're with you all the way captain - completely support your decisions and direction going forward. Your health and wellbeing should always come first and I'm as excited as ever to be a part of your crew as things progress

Sheldon Q Shaffer

Cap'n your health is more important than monthly animations and I'm more than happy to continue to support you. I hope you're able to find a better balance with work and health take however long you need, even a vacation nobody should be working them selves to death. Wish you the best all love Cap'n ❤

-Kris-

Your well-being is more important than our relentless thirst for smut. Take as long as you need and want, and we'll be delighted with whatever you make

ELdiablo

Please going forward make sure you are healthy, happy, and taken care of as a first priority! You as a person are more important and we will understand and be here to support! Love your stuff and am here for the long run!

Kittydragon6000

We love you Cap'n! Life is Hard AF. You bring joy to many lives. The timing isn't important. The talent, Kindness, wonderful communication and they escape from this hard AF world we live in with spicy art that we all love! That is what I value the most. So please do slow down. Put your health at the top because even though I don't know you, I consider you a friend :) I'm not going anywhere! If any one does leave, they're prolly the same folks who think there is too much Jester content, so let them go! JK JK Jk lol we know you love us = Life is short. live a lil cap'N. WE GOT YOUR BACK!

Duck-Bot 3D Art! :D

My favorite, silly cap'n took stock and dare I say, finding the source of the pain is a tremendous first step. Take care of that health. It's why I voted how I did. I ceased my own patreon uploads because of stress and burn out. A long, hard look and taking stock of your situation was a good, healthy thing. I say yee be stuck with me and a right many of us!

John

I'd be happy with more illustrated pieces than actual animations. So if the animations take longer go ahead I'm all for it

Roark Shire

I won't speak for everyone, but it seems like the general census is to focus on your health and comfort first. Afterall, a healthy, hearty Captain is a healthy, hearty crew! Proud of you and your work, please take things at your pace!

cptpopcorn

Thank you so much, me hearty! I shall do my best to find a good balance for this crew and myself!! I will make it worth it for all of us 🥰🥰🥰

RyungHyung

Thanks for everything Cap. I’ve been a long time supporter and have enjoyed seeing the evolution of your artwork! Your health comes first and foremost! I’ve had my own and similar struggles with depression and I think it’s very amazing and brave if you to share. I wish nothing but the best for you and yours! Much love from the high seas! -K
