Patreon tells me they won’t be able to change the patreon until the beginning of December, so its first charge won't happen until January. Since I thought it would only take a couple days, we’re just going to go ahead: The playtest rules are here, and I would love to see your take on things.

Firsts, a couple of points of business. The rules are still in Alpha. This means:

A. They aren’t complete. While we have ideas for all sorts of things, the test rules at the moment only include the core engine and Spheres of Might (the system that directly impacts the core engine the most). The rest will come later, but I wanted to hear people's thoughts about the core engine and any changes that might be necessary before writing the rest of the systems.

B. The rules are subject to change at any moment. While we think we’ve done some really cool stuff here, there’s always a chance that we’ll change things, or introduce a radically-different system just to gauge your reaction, or any number of things.

This is exactly what an alpha-test is for; it’s our time to be crazy, to have big and broad dialogues with our biggest fans, and figure out exactly what we all want this game to be like. When the time comes for a beta test, there when we’ll send out mostly-completed rules to large groups of people to get their blind reaction, but right now what we need is a dedicated group of people who know us, know what we’re trying to accomplish, and are willing to work with us to make it happen.

As such, we ask that people not publish these test rules too broadly. If you want to show them to your gaming group so you can try things out at the table, that’s one thing, but these rules are not ready for general consumption yet, and showing them off too early can cause problems: firstly by starting broad conversations around ideas that might not even be in the final product, and secondly because it can dilute the value of the eventual beta-playtesting by biasing people, decreasing the number of interested people who’d actually have that blind reaction we’re looking for.

Now, because you here are alpha testers getting the first look, I wanted to share a few things with you about the system, both what our ideas are looking like, as well as what the reasoning is behind those systems. That way, you can help us know if these ideas are actually something you want, as well as if what we’ve put on the page actually matches what we had in mind.

I’ll put the info on these different ideas in some separate posts, so you can look at them or not depending on how blind you want to go into reading the rules. Thank you all again so, so much for supporting us over the years and for being here with us as we make something awesome for use at your table.

And without further ado, you can get access to the rules here!

Thank you so much for joining us on this journey,

Adam Meyers
