Giles returning at the end of this episode has to be one of the greatest Buffy moments ever! Your reaction was perfect. I know what's coming and it still nearly brings me to tears every time. Can't wait for the next one.

CeNedra

I'm sure Rack (guessing the spelling here) is human, obviously a strong warlock with addiction issues but still just a human !

Katie

Loved your reaction to Giles's return. Also, toe knee head 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Glad you enjoyed, Veggie! There are a lot of writing, directing, and acting choices I don't love in this episode (or a lot of this season) but I will list my positive takeaways: 1. Sarah Michelle Gellar is such a pro, such a good actor, and I will buy anything she wants to sell me as Buffy Summers. 2. The return of Giles. These young people still need guidance from their elders. I get why the actor wanted a break, but it never made sense for the character to take off when he did. 3. Anya coming in clutch for the Scoobies. For a character I never quite grew to love, she was amazing in this episode. 4. Jonathan finally waking up to reality.

Hanneli Norrgard

Honestly, we've passed the point where I actually find the show fun to watch. By now, it was a slog, and I only watch subsequent episodes when watching reactors. This show does a great job of being inconsistent with characters, though. Giles was the Ripper and into magic when he was younger, but, presumably, he wouldn't be this powerful at this stage. Xander is just being annoying and doing other things that are out of character. We already talked about Spike being out of character. I could say that Willow is being out of character, but the road for her turning into a you know what has been there for a long time.

Ruins of Wonderland

So glad to see you watch the Giles surprise. Loved your reaction 😂 I knew it'd blow you away

Maia Brodsky

I personally think everyone is pretty in-character at this stage. And there is an explanation for Giles' power level, if you recall. I won't say it now bc it hasn't been addressed.

Jake M

During the end discussion, I genuinely thought you were going to say "She's right- Dawn is a ball...ache" XD I actually thought the truck driver was Giles at first!

Hanneli Norrgard

It's fine that we disagree. I feel that they're in character so far as this show loves to ruin characters, but I feel that they're out of character so far as what their characters would actually do. Also, as I said, this is where I lost complete interest in the show, so I don't recall any ridiculous explanation of Giles' power level. I watched subsequent episodes but could never actually pay attention to them because they were so ridiculous. To me, it's fine if you have a different opinion, Willow is the only one who has changed who was the background laid for it.

Elizabeth Rose

I don't think that what Willow was saying to Dawn is what Willow really normally believes, BUT, a theory that just occurred to me on this viewing--I would bet that this isn't the first time it has occurred to Willow that the Key could be a magic energy source. Normally, she would NEVER actually DO it if it would hurt Dawn in any way, but I think that when Willow was trying to figure out how to save Tara after Glory fed on her, she probably put some thought and research into whether she COULD tap into the Key's energy. And then determined that either she couldn't do it at all, or couldn't do it without harming Dawn, so abandoned that idea.

Will Sofer

Rack is indeed human.

James McCarthy

Probably one of the saddest arcs but despite the tragedy evil Willow is awesome

When I first watched this I wondered why Anya would just let Willow hit her but I realized during this reaction that she sort of had to. If she stops doing her spell and/or runs away, Willow could just kill her with magic. As long as she is chanting that spell Willow can only hit her really hard, which gives Anya a better chance at survival.

Maia Brodsky

Damn, I'm late with my comment from the previous week again. Dawn collapsed because, as Willow said, "The trip can be kind of rough," as in, bringing them from Rack's to the Magic Box. Buffy collapsed too, so I'm surprised you only commented on Dawn. Rack was a warlock, not a demon. Giles has also been a warlock since his youth (remember his dark magic history with Ethan Rayne and the others?) I also like Xander. I love flawed, messy characters. Yes, Alyson did some of her own stunts for that fight. Also, it's Clem, not Crem lol Willow was definitely implying a threat to harm Dawn, but who can say if she would've actually brought herself to go through with it, even as dark Willow. I think her insults about Dawn are based on thoughts she's actually had, but we all have negative thoughts about people we care about sometimes. Imagine saying the worst thing you've ever thought about someone to their face. As for her not killing Anya, I think it's just because it wasn't necessary. Turning Dawn back into mystical energy would've given Willow a power boost, but killing Anya serves no purpose when Willow can just knock her out to stop the protection spell. I also love season 6, but I know it's not for everyone. Now I'm off to watch your finale reaction, can't wait!

Maia Brodsky

Now that the finale has dropped - Giles was loaned the combined power of an entire coven of witches.

Diego Zenhäusern

Uff, that's heavy..but it would make 100% sense. And it would be just so human to think about it even if you'd never truely consider it as long as you're in your right mind...😳

Diego Zenhäusern

Giles appears on screen: *Veggie.exe stopped working* But no worries Veggie, watching along I also was completely stunned as well!🙈😅 I also have to give the series some real props for how Willows turn was handled. Because when she first threatened to "turn evil" I was just like: "Oh come one! I mean I get it Willow has done some questionable things in the past (like nearly cursing Veruca). But going from there to what you're wanting me to believe she's turning into now (magic adict, uncaring sexual abuser, potential next villain etc.) that's a stretch...and I honestly don't believe it!" But then the sow did something truly brilliant (at least to me) and went like: «No, you’re right, you didn’t misjudge Willow for multiple seasons. And she didn’t just randomly completely lose conscience and turn evil. HOWEVER, she DID do does fucked up things. But it was in a time of weakness, and she got carried away. And once she fully realized what she’d done she truly regretted it and tried to redeem herself and make up for it». So when this second turn of Willow came around, I was immediately prepared to believe that she had the capacity to make a huge mistake in an emotionally charged up situation like that. …and once she’d absorbed enough of the dark magic the show also made a real point in this episode about the fact that Willow is certainly still in there but also not 100% in control anymore. So her gradually growing more and more antagonistic to her friends over the course of the episode also made complete sense to me. And in addition to that the show really found a "perfect" cause for Willow to fall to the dark side. Because even though I was quickly and solidly on the Buffy train of «we can't let Willow kill anyone, not even the piece of shit that is Warren!" my honest to God first reaction to Warren shooting Tara was wishing the worst pain possible on him!😡😯

Pauline Robertson

I honestly don't feel they've ruined any of the characters? To me it was a realistic journey for people going from teenagers to adulthood. It would be silly if they just stayed the same imo. I was definitely not the same person at 16/17 to /21/22. They all suffered trauma and I appreciated the delve into the dark side and not just have them be the same and not mess up. It actually rounds out the show so much more for me, and makes it more re-watchable. I would've been pissed if they had ended at S5 with Buffy dying. She gains a sister, then loses her mum, then dies for said sister? I much prefer the season 7 ending for her character considering how the show started. I'm not sure why you'd say "ridiculous explanation" as if they haven't done anything this "ridiculous" in the show before for explaining something in the show? Buffy had depression, not sure how else you expect someone to be after coming back from the dead and losing their mother? Xander was annoying plenty throughout the whole show (I don't hate Xander btw) The Giles part was explained, The Willow stuff laid background because hers was about an obsession with magic, so it culminated this way. Giles and Xander didn't have that so what background could they have laid out for them? That Xander makes jokes to avoid stuff? That Giles struggles being Buffys watcher even though she doesn't need him as much? Pretty consistent to me. I'm honestly not sure why you would even continue to come back for certain reactions if you find the whole thing "silly" or a "slog"? I know I wouldn't.

Hanneli Norrgard

Yeah, he was "imbued" with the power of the coven, which is still ridiculous. I can do certain magical things, but the magic in Buffy never did it for me. None of it made sense in that it was all just too perfectly convenient to provide exactly what the show needed with no real though. I'm glad I got the hackles up of the superfans, though, who can't be fussed with people who don't think the show is perfect. I watch these reactions because I want to see Veggie's reactions. Don't worry, if I watch the show on my own, I don't watch these seasons. I don't give a crap what what commenters think about what I think. Don't try to regulate people who watch the show and what reactions they're allowed to have because it just makes you look bad.

Maia Brodsky

@Hanneli Why are you being rude? No one has been rude to you, and your response is totally unnecessary. And nobody said they think the show is perfect. I certainly don't think it is. People are allowed to disagree with you.

Pauline Robertson

@Hanneli It sounds a bit sad to say you're glad you upset me or "superfans" , bit weird lol which is funny cause you didn't. I was merely pointing out that you said the magic thing with Giles was convenient, but those conveniences literally happen all throughout the show so was confused why you singled this out as a reason to dislike this season? I'm not regulating anything, I had an opinion just like you, I didn't tell you what to do, just that it didn't make sense why you would? especially as you seem to have already decided what your thoughts on the show are? and there's no room for a change of mind? I don't think the show is perfect and have no issue criticising parts of it. I'm not gonna come to the comment section and whine about it all the time though, especially if I have a closed mind about it. Yeah of course you're free to do that and again I never told you that you couldn't, but at least accept your gonna get push back from people who disagree with you. I'm fine with it lol
