Another 'fashionably late' Book Review! And I loved these chapters! They contain one of my favourite funny reveals as well as... possibly the creepiest moment in Potter so far??

IMPORTANT QUESTION! - What would be in YOUR Room of Requirement? We discuss this in the Book Club!

In this video we talk about Count Duckula, Charlie in Hazbin Hotel being an idiot, watches, dental hygiene in dogs, mental health, Hermione being a psychopath, Apocalypse Now, The Long Walk, Smith and Jones, Seven Degrees of Peter Sellers, and also a couple of minutes about Harry Perkins.

You are also in store for a LOT of Woozle, in what has to be her longest appearance in a video so far!

Love you, guys! Sorry again for the delay on this. I really appreciate the patience and do not take it lightly!!

Oh! Happy Birthday, Jo!!

I can already tell by the description this is gonna be an interesting one. 😆

Just read the description lol

It's the 2nd of December, Veggie, you really don't need to apologize! I think we all know that these videos usually comes either late in a month or early in the next one. No one here gets angry if it's a few days later than what you have planned. I'm really looking forward to watching this! Haven't completed my re-reading of the second chapter yet, so I think everything in my comment is probably about the first chapter, but most things was probably covered anyway either by you or the book club. Thanks again for doing this, and I hope you'll have a nice Christmas.

Stephen Hert

The main reason I love you veggie, is when we completely go off the rails in the videos. I love going in different directions rather than sticking to the script. It's refreshing.

Alexis Burrows

As someone who started Infant school in the '60's and the rest of my schooling was in the '70's, I really don't get why all this 'Health and Safety' stuff is such a big deal with you 'young 'uns.' It looks reasonably normal to me! Yes, teachers DID smoke in the staff-room.

I've said it a few times, I don't think the author was making any points by including Ireland in Britain in the Wizarding world. The only way I can justify it logically, if it were to have been done on purpose, is because it was a very Muggle reason why Ireland became a republic so there was no need for the wizards to follow suit. I don't love that, but it's the only logical scenario I can think of. Harry likes attention, or at least can accept attention, when it's earned. Like when you go back to the first book after the match vs Hufflepuff where he caught the snitch super quickly, the line is ""He'd really done something to be proud of now - no one could say he was just a famous name any more." It's one of the many ways he's different than James. I like how in the movie they show Umbridge watching the group of them coming back from Hogsmeade as the reason for the decree, they did a good job with that. Hogwarts was founded around 1000 CE so yeah, there are a lot of things there that are old-fashioned lol. It was definitely smart of Hermione to put a jinx on the sign-up list. If I had to choose an owl, I would choose a snowy owl 100% because of Hedwig. She's truly the best. The only time I really remember any extended interaction with Binns is COS when Hermione asks about the chamber. I really wish HOM was taught better. I am such a history person, that was always one of my favourite classes in school. I have this thought of an alternate universe where Hermione becomes a professor at Hogwarts and completely revamps HOM and includes what is going on in the Muggle world at the time because the magical world really should know those things too. Obviously they wouldn't kick Binns out of the castle but he 100% needs to be replaced as a professor. The extent of my survivor series knowledge was that Charlotte Flair's outfit was inspired by a 7-year old fighting cancer which is lovely. Draco and Harry really do live rent-free in each others minds. Neville shows so many times throughout the books why he 100% deserved to be in Gryffindor. I love that people now are giving him his flowers. The moment in the movie where "Moody" demonstrates Crucio is extra awful when you remember that BCJ is one of the death eaters who tortured Frank and Alice with that curse to get them to where they are. Harry does know what happened to them already, he found out in GOF. I love Snape's inspection so SO much in the movie. The timing with the music just made it just that much better. The drawn out "Yes" and "Obviously", so good. Alan Rickman, man. He may have been too old to play Snape but he was truly brilliant. Chemistry is one of the more dangerous subjects in muggle school and potions is the magical equivalent, so I'd say it's definitely top three most dangerous. Top two even, probably that and Transfiguration imo. I don't think they did a good job of adapting Mundungus in the movie, mainly because he was just in the 7th with no background. But even then I don't think the character was particularly great. The visual of the hand is creepy enough but then the context of knowing that they're being watched, definitely adds to the creepiness. I appreciate the spells with easily guessable effects, like Silencio. No need to do any Latin translations. I think this is the only movie that wasn't written by Steve Kloves but he really did such a great job of sabotaging Ron and Hermione's relationship, and just Ron's character in general. Them starting the DA is a great example of doing the right thing, not the easy thing, like Dumbledore says at the end of GOF. I think the reason we have that moment between Harry and Sirius in POA the movie is 1) because of the relationship IRL that Dan and Gary had, but also 2) we really haven't seen many moments of parental affection shown towards Harry. That would be my guess, but like you I much prefer the book version. As I said at the time, my own personal head canon of the time travel sequence is the movie version up until Harry sends the Dementors away then it goes back to the book. I think she was able to say Grimmauld Place because she didn't say the full name which is 12 Grimmauld Place, and that is what is being kept secret. I've never thought of it until you mentioned it but that makes logical sense to me. More lack of communication in this chapter. t's not the worst moment of it but it is infuriating nonetheless. And yes, Sirius talks about the "weapon he didn't have last time" at the beginning when Harry gets to Grimmauld Place. Hermione really did mean well with SPEW but she never once asked the Elves themselves what they wanted. Although I do love that Dobby is in all the things when he shows up, just *chefs kiss*. Also, the fact that the elves can refuse to clean the Gryffindor common room is proof that the elves at Hogwarts are not slaves. Hooray, Harry finally displays some semblance of impulse control! You're right, it was Lockhart who tried to fix Harry's arm but it was Dobby's bludger that caused it to be broken in the first place. I understand why Neville was the one to replace Dobby in the movies, although I do think it made more sense in GOF since Herbology is his thing. I hate the montage of Filch with the ROR in the movie, I won't lie. That just isn't how the room works from my understanding of it. There's a reason why so much of the fandom believes Harry should have become a professor after leaving school and the DA proves why. I really, really, don't like Zacharias Smith. Luna's dad definitely is giving Fudge too much credit, you're right that if he were actually having people make him poison and assassinating Goblins he'd be very Snow-like but Fudge is not nearly smart enough for that. If I have comments on the book club I'll add them but that's my thoughts on your thoughts!

I have completely healed from my surgery. I still have to use tape over my scars so they stay as thin as possible. But they have also healed completely. The hardest part about recovering was not being able to sleep on my stomach. As my surgery was related to my chest area.

Yeah I've spoken before I'm sure to you Veggie about the Carry On films, of which I do enjoy in the main - mainly for the cast tbh. There was a period from the early 60's to early 70's, where they hit their stride and every one was great in their own way. I don't think the early ones are that great, and the less said about the late ones, including England and Emmanuelle, the better. Of course the film Emmanuelle and its sequels were very popular, as was the Confessions of a Window Cleaner series, of which Carry On England and Emmanuelle, are ripping off of. It was a sign of the times, with the likes of On The Buses too, in which the comedy of that time period became smutty, and people were moving on from the innuendo's and double-entendre's of the Carry On series, to the likes of them with more crass themes and nudity. Carry On Camping is my favourite, though I do love Matron too, as I adore Hattie Jacques; as well as one of my comic heroes in Sid James. Binns would probably still drone on giving his lectures, to a class full of Death Eaters, and not notice! Thumbnails are drivel these days. I have got on to several reactors about putting false reactions from their thumbnails on vids, where that hasn't appeared, but then again why should they be arsed about what I think. I note you have a tendency to put your crying stuff in most of your thumbs to get your clicks Veggie ;) However as you say, at least they are reactions from the vids. The worst ones show a spoiler from a series or film included if I haven't seen it, which is especially infuriating if the show has just come out that day and I'm just on youtube browsing at my other subscriptions. I'm trying to get back into golf, so subbed to a few UK youtubers; but even they are putting nonsense in their thumbs, like ott expressions and crap graphics. I let them away with it, as in the vids themselves, they are a lot of fun, are genuine and do offer good advice. Its a shame you can't tag youtube vids, then you'd be able to put "Harry Perkins" in for these vids Veg, and it wouldn't affect your views. I also note that you are correct that people who don't put much effort in and just follow the herd, get the subs, is a shame. This is particularly frustrating as a huge Star Wars fan who loves it warts and all; and when searching to check out Star Wars channels, 99 percent of them just get on the hate train, talk nonsense about it and Disney, and the money flows; so that I have to wade through the muck to get to a positive or neutral channel where I can sink my teeth into their content, and discuss it with others similar to myself. As someone toying with the idea of setting up a youtube channel, hearing stuff like this makes it sound as if its not worth the effort, especially if I don't look like a model, and am just a fat middle aged baldy!! :D FInally on the subject of Youtube, you should check out the Stuart Millard channel, I think it would be right up your street, as he goes through UK tv of yesteryear, and is very witty. Plenty of Neville stuff to come Veggie, don't fret.

As a child of the 70's, I still remember the night the smoking ban came into effect in Scotland, which was the first place in the UK where smoking was banned indoors in public spaces. I was in a pub and it was like no one would be able to smoke again, so they all got it done that night, and I could hardly speak as my throat was thick with the stuff. Horrible. However yes, when I was going to school in the 80's there would 100 percent have teachers smoking in the common room.

Margarita Pizza

I loved your Prisoner of Azkaban reactions! You're often hard on yourself, but I never mind any of the things you apologize for. Your spontaneity and genuineness is what makes your videos so fun to listen to, like hanging out with a friend. Hermione not telling the DA members about the curse suggests that its purpose is not so much to deter snitches, but to identify and punish them. She really has a ruthless streak, doesn't she?

Cari Ann

Justin is going to have to learn the first rule of fight club is you don't talk about fight club lmao. Yea I think maybe hermione should have told them about the curse, maybe even after they signed so they would know that something bad would happen if they did snitch...it may have been a good preventive measure from someone talking if they knew.

Ирина Устюгова

This is one of the reasons why I love Order of the Phoenix: it's a longer book, so it gives the supporting characters (Angelina Johnson, McGonagall, etc.) time to shine.

Alias93

You overestimate my ability to pay attention if you think I didn't have to go back and check the thumbnail when you mentionned it to notice what it said. 😅 Tbh the font is so recognizable you could probably write any combination of two words starting with H and P and my brain would read it as Harry Potter. I took advantage of your fully synced reactions to look it up, and the movie does have a scene with the new educational decree banning student organizations (although it's listed as #68 for some reason), it's at 57:30 on the movie timer. This movie really has no time to breathe: they come back from Hogsmeade, next scene: student organizations are banned, next scene: Neville finds the room of requirement. They go from needing to find a place to meet to being in the room of requirement in exactly 1 minute and 10 seconds. I've heard about "a piece of cake" and "a walk in the park", but "a cake walk" is a new one.

S1lm4r1l

Harry can't have been the only person in the class to mess up that potion. (The class does contain Neville after all) Yet he's singled out, given 0 marks and made to do extra work. I'm pretty sure that Harry says that Snape looked "extremely angry" during Umbridge's questioning. At least from my perspective, Snape used Harry to vent some of his feelings, and would've done so even if Harry's potion was perfect.

Alex Hopps

Trying not to add 20 cpmments for once lol. I was born in 1990, my primary school definitely had a hidden area for staff smoking. I actually watched the popcorn reaction because it popped up on my feed but havent watched the rest of her series. Ill never get bored of seeing people's faces in that moment. I dont know what that says about me I love that episode of only fools. It has the best ending. There is also an episode of derry girls that is brilliant and clearly influenced by this

LouShirley

Regarding your brain not being very kind to you at the moment; I can relate to that so much, and I hope you know that you're very much appreciated by so many! Also, many of us look forward to hearing your opinions in reactions etc, as well as Veggie Tangents, and The Adventures of Veggie and Woozle 😁 I hope all is well, and don't feel guilty if you need a break!

I don't believe we've been to the staff room before in the books. Not 100% on that, but I feel that I remember reading this bit for the first time and being amazed at my own astonishment that there was a staff room. For some reason I thought that the teachers just hang out in their own living quarters. But obviously there would still be a staff room! Teen-me just seemingly didn't think of teachers as people, but that they are more like NPCs who don't have their own lifes? I don't know... Regarding the smoking though, that didn't strike me as odd at all! I don't think we're too far off age wise (I'm a late 80s kid. If I'm wrong there, my apologies 😬), but there might be a difference with Germany vs England? Growing up it was quite normal that on the rare occasion you had to knock at the staff room door, you were greeted with a waft of smoke once it was opened. That was changing while I was still in school though. I do remember that there was a big debate when smoking on school grounds was forbidden, but the teachers still smoked in the staff room. And a year or two later that was offically forbidden as well, so the teachers would hang out with the older students, who were allowed to leave the school ground, beyond the school gate to smoke. Which started a whole debate because we non-smokers hated to have to go through a smoke cloud to enter or leave the school, but the school could not police people on public grounds... but that's just something else entirely. But yeah, teachers smoking in the staff room in the mid-90s? Feels legit to me...

Madikuma95

I think I also subconsciously assumed Colin and Nigel were the same person. 😅

Wayne Joy

James Earl Jones was in both Dr. Strangelove and Return of the Jedi. Warwick Davis was in both Return of the Jedi and the Harry Potter movies.

Ирина Устюгова

We were definitely in the staff room in Chamber of Secrets, weren't we? Ron and Harry were hiding in the closet and overheard the conversation about Ginny being kidnapped. And I think the lesson with the boggart in Prisoner of Azkaban also took place in the staff room?

Badger Kat

In the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry goes to the staff room to try to get the Quidditch book back from Snape. He doesn’t actually go into it though.

Badger Kat

I suddenly wondered while listening to this, how hard did the marauders try to get past the protections for the girls dormitory? That seems like something they would’ve seen as a challenge.

VeggieGamer

I LITERALLY SAY IN THE VIDEO THAT JONES IS IN STRANGELOVE!! What is wrong with me?? Great call! I am terrible at this game! XD

when it comes to what i said about harry’s situation vs. neville’s, i just feel that losing your parents, while tough, at least has some closure to it. i lost my dad very young, and it was terrible, but i truly believe if it was a “neville situation” and my dad was still alive but was incapable of living a normal life, it would be worse than just not having him. that’s from my perspective of losing him as a child though, if something like that happened to my mother now i would definitely have a harder time saying which situation is “worse”. i won’t say more about neville until a later chapter! sorry editing again as i finish watching! i’ve always gotten the impression that when they do the head travel with the floo network, it’s literally their head. i assumed the movies took liberties to make it incorporated into the fire so it wasn’t so jarring to the audience, but in Goblet of Fire when harry sees Mr. Diggory’s head in the fireplace for the first time, he doesn’t describe it as fiery and states how jarring it is too look at. one more edit lol the new full cast audiobooks are the full books! there’s a narrator who reads everything that isn’t dialogue and the cast is absolutely killing it. king robert from game of thrones voices hagrid, hugh laurie (dr. house) voices dumbledore, and you’re correct that our new hermione is the voice of hermione.

I have read somewhere that Nigel is sort of a combination of Colin and Dennis, though why they would do that I have no idea. He seems a couple years younger that Colin would be, as Colin is only a year younger than Harry.

MP

Talking about the staircase/slide thing, I watched you discover it in Hogwarts Legacy in the Hufflepuff room. I'm playing the game as a Ravenclaw (when I play, which is quite rare), and they have a pair of suits of armor guarding the girls' stairway instead. If I try to go down those stairs they block me with their spears. It's probably different there because the dormitories are below the common room, so a slide would just leave you trapped at the bottom. If I ever finish the game as a Ravenclaw I'd like to play through the other houses just to see all the common rooms, and maybe play some female characters.

Hi veggie to late to change it now but youtube unfortunately couldn't find this one for me because you have the name perkins instead of potter not sure why that would affect things but I had to join the patreon to be able to find this video. Also doesn't affect me anymore but maybe updating the playlist for these on your youtube channel that only goes to book 3 I believe. And youtube doesn't make it easy to follow the videos in order generally I had to search for them just to make it easier for other people to find these in the future.
