So here we are, guys! Finally, after a while, I go over my issues about Quidditch (it's been a while~) but also cover 2 fantastic chapters!

We discuss a lot, regarding bullying, sports, punishments, and the wild situation our hereos are left in.

And yes - Weasley is my king, but not like that. I love the interactions as well as the discussion that follows 'what happened'.

Love you, guys. I probably don't say it enough, but your kind comments have gotten be through more darkness you could ever know.

Thank you so much for taking part! You are appreciated. Sorry for all the tangents (which, lets face it, are expected at this point), but I really do try to avoid going on them, I promise. Thank you so much for your patience. I can't believe I have the privilege of making this series, and I only have you to thank for this.

Yay! One of my favourite things to watch every month! Also, I love the tangents you go on, so keep it up and keep being you 😁

Oscar Williams

So because I'm new, I don't understand how this works, do you read the two chapters or do you review the two chapters

PumpkinSparks

I wasn't in the best mood this evening, since after 2 months of medical leave I will return to work tomorrow. I mean, yey I can walk again, that's good! But ugh, I don't wanna go :( Now I have something fun to look forward to when I get home! So thanks, perfect timing ;)

PumpkinSparks

The first bit is Veggies review (going over his own notes). After that is book club, where he reads our comments of those chapters and talks about them

Oscar Williams

Thanks for the reply, appreciate the clear up

Hi Veggie! Yes, I am one of those who listens to your answer to my comment first 😅 Your question about whether Harry Potter contributed to me becoming a teacher is fascinating to me. I never actually thought it did, my grandparents and my aunt were also teachers, and I just couldn't imagine myself in another profession for as long as I can remember. But thinking about it now, it might have also contributed to it. HP was a big escape for me in my childhood as my relationship with my parents wasn't exactly great, unfortunately... And that also contributes to the confidence point, I could never be 'good enough' for my father, so that really destroyed my confidence. When I was at university, I wasn't sure actually how I could be able to become a teacher because I struggled to speak in front of my peers. But with students, it's somehow different. There I am the 'authority', and I don't mean it in a negative way like I want to rule over them or something, not at all 😅 but still, it gives me some confidence, if that makes sense. Sorry if I'm not explaining it too well, obviously English isn't my first language. I haven't listened to the rest of the video about your reasoning, but to me at least not giving homework or ignoring someone being cursed is VERY different. As a history teacher I rarely give homework, here it's not common to give homework in history, but sometimes I do, practicing essay writing for example. But when I know some important event is coming up for my students, I either don't give homework then, or I give longer deadline so they can submit it after, and those who can do it, can do it earlier too. Yes, McGonagall is playing favourites too, but it's not harming anyone, unlike Snape ignoring someone actually being hurt. And obviously I don't support Harry and George beating Malfoy from a teacher's perspective, I would also punish students if that happened, but that was more me picturing myself in Harry's shoes, a teenager who is going through a lot, and a kid who has bullied him and his best friend, and the family he practically considers his own, I understood why he reacted that way. Sorry for the long comment, I hope you understand what I mean 😊

Huldra Draco

yay!!! I was just wondering what I'd be doing the rest of the night, love these so much 🥰

Cari Ann

When he posts the next book club post, reread or relisten to those chapters and leave a comment, ask a question to veggie or something like that under that book club and he will read it in the next video ❤️

Cari Ann

Yea you should stream more hogwarts legacy, I love watching people play that game so much.

J. W.

About your comment on quiditch being like a separate football and tennis match, I'd say its more like a tennis match being played in the middle of an american football game where one player is actively trying to tackle the tennis players. The scoring system would be more fair if the snitch was worth less points, say 50. Also, Draco deserved his beating, he is vile. Even in book 2, he wished Hermione was killed because she was muggle born. Up to this point, we've seen nothing that would make us think he's changed.

Tiegan

I think Luna is supporting Gryffindor because she views the trio as her friends but at this point they don’t so it’s like a one-sided friendship. I don’t think many people are that nice to her so when someone is (like the trio kinda have been) she mistakes their kindness as friendship. As an autistic person I relate to that a lot, there was definitely some one-sided friendships when I was at school 😅

Noni

NEWTs or Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests are the level of exams after OWLs. Muggle equivalent (English version) would be OWLs instead of GCSEs and NEWTs instead of A Levels. Re the golden snitch. Just imagine how much more interesting a football match would be if no one knew how long the match would last for and 1 person could effectively score 10 goals with 1 kick to end it. There’d be no teams sitting back and taking it easy to save their legs. They’d have to play full on from the start. I bet there’d be a lot less 0-0 results.

Ziro the Hutt

Yeah Draco gets his just desserts here for sure; he's a little git who can give it but not take it, so yep he deserves a few bruises and a keeker. What I will also say to that though, is that Umbridge is correct here to then ban Harry and the twins for beating him up. Snitches have a few spells cast on them, one of which I don't want to speak about just now as its brought up later in Deathly Hallows. I personally don't think they are "programmed" to hide deliberately, or avoid Seekers as they approach them, just be obscure enough and zip around at random, so that their paths seem random. Bringing up how Slytherin's are stereotypes, is a point; and I'll compare this to something else you brought up this episode : Star Wars. Both Harry Potter and Star Wars, are written for kids and young teens - generally. So in the original SW trilogy, ALL stormtroopers are baddies, like all Slytherins are baddies, according to Harry at this point. However in the SW sequels you mention (where C-3P0 steals the show in Rise of Skywalker btw!), we also see one stormtrooper in Finn, rebel against the tyranny and fight for the goodies. And here, we get Slughorn later, who is a decent chap, though still shows plenty of Slytherin traits; alongside perhaps Narcissa Malfoy later. So while both series have surface level tropes generally, look a bit deeper and there is room for nuance.

Ziro the Hutt

Yeah she's a bit like Neville (and Wormtail) to this point, a hanger-on to more popular kids. I was one of those myself, growing up. She's seen as a weirdo in Ravenclaw and our trio have been nice to her, so she wants to repay them by supporting Gryffindor here at the Quidditch.

Gugurupurasu Daikirai

It's hard to even think of an actual real life example of what Harry, Fred, and George did. Post game brawls aren't unheard of but it is so much worse when it's members of the winning team ganging up on one member of the losing team well after the game had ended in front of so many witnesses, I don't think I've ever even seen that so the punishment should have been over the top, and I was around in the 90s and they would have been crucified for that back then too. Should have been smart like Slytherin and gotten their revenge on Malfoy in the hallways later instead of in front of the whole school What really ticked me off though was just how bad Draco's trash talk was. I remember being 15, if I was to insult another player's mother to try to get them to have a go at me then at the very minimum speculate on the species of magical creature that mother cheated on the dad with to conceive that player. Your mom smelled bad? That's really the best he could come up with? And Harry wouldn't be the first player with a dead mother to endure that kind of taunting with how basic a taunt it is

Katie

I have to do jury service in March and I'm terrified!

Gugurupurasu Daikirai

How big is the city you live in? Most of the time you're not actually selected if it's a big city. Just a day you sit there waiting for nothing, bring a book or something to distract yourself. I've been called in several times but never actually been placed on a jury, though one time was close

Katie

It's quite a big town. Unfortunately I had a panic attack in October, had to resign from my job and I'm still recovering. Just the travelling there on my own and the waiting will be enough to potentially set me back. Fingers crossed I'm not selected.

About Luna supporting Gryffindor: I think it’s probably more her being against Slytherin than for Gryffindor in this situation (we heard that the other houses also wanted Slytherin to lose during previous years). Same reason why there aren’t any Slytherins in the DA: were there any Slytherin students that were against the chants mocking Ron during the match? Probably, but from Harry’s perspective they are depicted as a unit, they are meant to be seen as bullies and cheaters with no redeeming qualities. About Draco knowing that Harry stays with the Weasleys during the summer: Harry was with them in the bookshop in CoS when the Lucius/Arthur ‘’incident’’ (or should I say, Muggle duel) happened, and Harry was again with them at the Quidditch world cup, so I guess Draco just correctly assumes that he spends at least part of his summers with them. My opinion on the role of Quidditch in the series is that it’s not meant to be an accurate depiction of sports at all, it’s merely a plot device to drive the story (it was used to frame Snape as a bad guy in PS, it was part of Dobby’s plan in CoS with the rogue bludger, it’s what motivated Harry to learn how to defend himself against dementors in PoA, etc). Adding more Quidditch matches, while more realistic, would lessen the impact of the ones we are told about. Similarly, the seeker being the most important player is just because the story is following Harry’s point of view so it needs to be him who is mostly responsible for winning or losing (and ending) the match. It’s also why there aren’t detailed descriptions of the matches between the other houses, we only care about what happens to Harry and what he does, that’s how the story is written.

Dara Jeeling

great - I can listen and crochet! That should be a Cornish Pixie and a few cauldrons done! Hope you had a lovely christmas and I would love a new HL gameplay. I loe watching others but since I restarted a Hufflepuff run myself I am okay - still would love to watch.

PumpkinSparks

First of: so proud of Woozle on her New Years Adventure!!! It sounds like she was an incredibly brave girl. And yey, happy teeth! Mighty Nein season 1 just ended (I think 2 weeks ago?), but the new season of Vox Machina will drop soon. Fourth out of Five - their nearly done with VM. You know my opinion, but I'm gonna keep saying it: Watch it! It's sooo good. On the lion hat vs helmet issue: Darling, your autism is showing ;) I would make the argument that the movie version is hood shaped, but it also aligns with everything that is helmet if we just go for shape not function - neither of those are hats! Most people are wrong by definition of hat, but they would just call it a hat... it looks freaking awesome though! And thinking about how cold they established it to be and the height of the tribunes? A lion head hood/helmet/thing is a rather sensible choice - her head must be so cozy! I always understood Lunas support of Gryffendor, as it's because it's Slytherin vs Gryffendor, so obviously she'll gonna support the lions. And I presume that 3 out of the 4 houses support Gryffendor during that game and most probably sport red and gold. Luna is just a bit extra and crafty! Reading all the other takes is fascinating, cause yeah I can see it. She is an absolute outsider in Ravenclaw and the only people she would consider friends are Gryffendor. I sorta lived that life while I was reading the book the first time, so maybe that is why I didn't clock it? If that makes sense to anyone else... I also still think that Luna relishes the opportunity to dress up XD "Theft and Shrubbery" is still my favourite Bob Mortimer story, but their all golden!

Cari Ann

Luna supports gryffindor because slytherin sucks lol.

Cari Ann

I'm excited to hear the weasley is our king song on the full cast audio

Kimberly Moss

I really appreciate your comment. I am currently working on becoming a teacher myself and I also have a lack of confidence. I sometimes wonder if I can really do it, but I love working with the students and it does feel different when you're talking to the students, rather than your peers.

Réka Kovács

Good luck! It is not easy, I definitely know it. Try to push yourself out of your comfort zone a bit, if you can. Weird thing, but what helped loads for me is that I started working at an escape room while I was at university, and there I always had to talk to different groups of people who were strangers. I was terrified at first and it was hard to get used to it, but with time I started to love the job and become more confident. But it can be something different for you of course, maybe joining some group activities or anything that pushes you a bit. It is difficult, but for me at least it was really beneficial. You are stronger than you think and you can do hard things ❤️ Don't give up, I'm sure you will be a great teacher 😊

Badger Kat

I am fine with one chapter videos, I know that you don’t want HP to drag on forever though, I just want you to take care of yourself and do what is best for you.

Cari Ann

In my school (america- Pennsylvania) kids would get suspended for fighting, sometimes in school suspension as well which is when you sit in silence all day and quietly do work, I made up hours in there when I had missed to many days before but never got suspended myself. I bet if you fought several times they would have expelled you eventually from my school though.

Cari Ann

Just be honest with them, you may get a dull case like some embezzlement or something like that, but if its got injury or god forbid murder involved you can tell them you can't handle it and they will let you go, they won't force you to sit if you can't do it mentally. A woman was excused for this when I was at jury duty for a dui crash involving death, we would have to see the crime scene photos and she couldn't handle it so they let her go. (The woman in my case plead guilty the day we were set to start smh)

Cari Ann

As someone who's recently relistening to your book reviews again, I would appreciate a HP book review only Playlist on YouTube ❤️

Badger Kat

I haven’t really talked about my personal feelings about this book as a whole, I do find it a hard book for me to get through. The reason is not because of Umbridge, though, it’s mostly because of the constant anger and lashing out from Harry. I still really enjoy it though, like all of the books. I think Snidget would be a really cute dog name by the way.

S1lm4r1l

Create the playlist! Create the playlist! I'm not saying Harry, Fred and George were right. But I do understand their actions. Malfoy knew what he was doing and must've realized that violence was a possibility. He got off pretty lightly in my opinion.

itsanursething

Dang Veggie! I don’t know if we can be friends anymore. The Hawks “cheat” because the 12th man is a record holder for being the loudest? Sorry we have the best fan base 🤷🏼‍♀️

emmainkeri

Umbridge did in fact wear green to the Quidditch match! "Harry and George both wheeled round. Dolores Umbridge was standing in the doorway wrapped in a green tweed cloak that greatly enhanced her resemblance to a giant toad, and was smiling in the horrible, sickly, ominous way that Harry had come to associate with imminent misery."

Alex Hopps

People keep throwing around the term muggle dueling and im sorry but its just wrong. The word duel implies a fair fight and trust me when i say theres nothing fair about getting filled in by 2 people with a third being held back

Natasha

Hi Veggie! So sorry for non-translated russian words :/ I always write my notes in English, then ask GPT to give me the most suitable translation of certain words to express what I want to say (i.e. in this case I asked for the right epithets for Umbridge), then I rewrite and shorten the whole text, and then I ask GPT to check everything again :) This time I must have copy-pasted a non-final version. I cringed at myself so much while watching the video. I should have triple-checked! Well, at least now you know some Russian, haha

Dani Phantom

just now catching up on this video, sad i missed this book club but i endeavor to be in the next one. i can attest to kit harrington’s talent as professor lockhart. i was worried i wouldn’t be able to separate his voice from jon snow, but he is AMAZING! there are a ton of game of thrones actors that are or will be voicing characters in the upcoming full cast audiobooks. definitely worth a listen!

Laura Pedersen

Hi sorry I have a question and I don't know where to ask it. I wanna watch/listen to all the book review/readings/reactions but I don't know where to start, I can't seem to find the first book, is there a playlist or collection or something? I have only subscriped to some people on here, and watched a few videos, I don't know how Patreon works exactly, can someone help me?

VeggieGamer

Oh, so sorry about this, Laura! They should all be in the playlist on Patreon, but there is a 'Harry Potter Reactions' playlist on Youtube that has them all in. The only downside with that one is it has EVERY Harry Potter thing I have done in as well, but I plan on finally getting a Book Review exclusive one put together at some point soon! :) sorry for the confusion!

Laura Pedersen

Ah thank you, I was scared I just couldn't figure out Patreons layout and where to find stuff. I will start with the YouTube playlist and move to Patreon when a book review playlist is made, Thank you! Keep up the great work, I really appreciate your reactions 😁
