Wfftipwff, guys! Later than expected (I am so sorry about this) the latest installment in the Harry Potter Book Review!I am so sorry, I get the words "Occlumency" and "legilimency" wrong through out most of the video. As someone that complained A LOT about the way names were being said in The Last Airbender, I can fully understand if this is grating!! I will do my best to learn them for next time!We also discuss what is likely to come in the following chapters, as well as Family-Ness, Chelsea boots, why I am not called 'Zak' and the wonderful news we learn about Percy in this chapter!Thank you all so much for your support of this series and I hope you understand what is likely going to be another single chapter episode to follow (I promise I will try and get back to 2 ASAP).Love you, guys!

i somehow missed this one too even with the “extension” time we got! i already know the couple of chapters coming up that i’m most excited for though, so i’m really looking forward to the ending of this book. thanks for your hard work with these and YAY now i have almost 4 hours of content to listen to tonight to help take my mind off the rest of the world! 🫶🏻

Cari Ann

Don't think we should answer if he would be better teacher at DADA because spoilers for him being the teacher next year.

emmainkeri

Veggie, do one chapter videos. Just do it! Honestly, will anything bad happen in this tiny world of ours if you review the books one chapter at a time? No! Even if you made that the new standard? It's your life! Your channel! We're here because we like you and we like the concept, not because you review 2 chapters at a time :D Quality over quantity! And Patreon is optional. Almost free, might I add. Personally, I kinda hope this journey never comes to an end so please, go ahead and do more 1 chapter videos, ESPECIALLY if that's what you think is best. Do it!! No shame, no guilt either ✨

Dave Brannagan (Brannas86)

I wonder if a student lived in Hogsmeade would be forced to go to London to get the train or if they could just walk through the gate. Same for others on Scotland being forced to London when it would be quicker to go to Hogsmeade.

Badger Kat

Yes, please don’t feel bad about one chapter videos!

Dani Phantom

one more comment, never feel guilty for taking the time you need!! if splitting the chapters into single book clubs works for you, do it. second thing, your dry humor gets me nearly every time. i have to stop and think “wait this is veggie. is this a joke or not?” i love it. keep it up 🤣

emmainkeri

I don't understand what the point of rushing you is. Why do people tell you you need to "get through these chapters", why? Why not take time to enjoy them? It honestly makes me upset that you feel the need to apologize for a week's "delay", due to you spending a few days with your brother. Like, what? You're allowed to spend time with people IRL. Or take a break. A few weeks off. Without guilt. Imagine a year from now you look back on this, and tell us you're sorry you couldn't enjoy the Oder of the Phoenix book and/or book clubs because of all the stress you were under. It's not worth it!

Oona M

Shut up, Veggie!:) And just do one chapter whenever you need! I believe this book has the longest chapters (on average) of this series, so it makes sense to do it that way. I would rather you get to talk about all the details anyway. Edit: I did a fast search, and i was correct! For example, the average chapter lenght is ~5,150 words in book 4 and ~6,700 words in book 5. Fun fact, the longest chapter of the whole series is in this book. Chapter 13, 'Detention with Dolores' is 9000 words😱 Edit 2: Right after i commented, you talk about this XD

Jake M

Always a good day when this drops in my inbox. Hope it wasn't as painful as the last episode - we all really appreciate the effort, thank you for the entertainment!

Katie

I don't think there's any reason to rush through this series. Just do one chapter at a time if it works for you. If it means you can go into more detail per chapter then all the better for it. But the most important thing is that you're enjoying yourself 🙂 Prioritise your health over anything else.

Matleo143

31.00 - I think you are possibly the only personon the planet who has interpreted that line as Percy being back with the family 😆

VeggieGamer

In my defense, the book LITERALLY says the "whole Weasley family" ;)

Ziro the Hutt

Not a criticism, just a question Veggie. If you are doing one chapter at a time, then why do you still need to take a month between these book reviews? You usually do two chapters a month, so why can't one take a fortnight-to-three-weeks? On rings, I've always wanted a jade ring, ever since I saw Chow Yun-Fat don one in The God of Gamblers, and he was so cool!! Rook and castle are interchangeable, when you protect the king by switching him over with the rook, it's called "Castling". Haha, that's one way to waken up with a bang, laughing so hard about a "no rimming" joke! :D

VeggieGamer

Good question, Saltire! It is because i have other things I cover on the channel. I do movie reactions, I do tv show reactions, I am regularly reminded I don't do enough gameplay streams anymore. . I don't expect you to follow the numbers on the channel, but if I 100% devoted the channel to just this book series, it would kill my channel, my income and my ability to support and look after my dog. I can understand none of this is important. And I am always looking forward to trying to better the way the channel works. But I have let you down, and for that, I apologise

Dani Phantom

i’m sorry i’ve commented so much, but i just had to note that it’s taken this long and this many videos for me to find out your name is James?! i’ve seen every book club and countless reactions! 🤣 idk veggie it kinda ruins the illusion for me now (totally kidding, it’s a lovely name!)

Réka Kovács

It's completely okay to do one chapter per month, your health always comes before work, even if you enjoy doing it. Don't feel bad if you have to reduce the chapters. You are doing an amazing job with these in depth reviews, and I really appreciate every video you post. Take care of yourself!

Ziro the Hutt

No worries, I just wondered. Thanks for the response. I'm subbed up for the year anyway, and will continue that, so I'm not going anywhere! Been playing around with the idea myself of doing some Youtube of Star Wars watchthroughs, as I bloody love them, just for a bit of fun; but I can see from what you are saying that editing and scheduling is difficult to maintain. Anyway, just take your time then with this series, we'd rather you pick up the story indepth as much as you can, than rush through it. Cheers!

Heather Judge

Your health comes first, always Veggie! We asked for you to read the books because we want you to enjoy the world we enjoy, if it is something which is causing undue stress taking a break is important!

Cari Ann

1:24:43 at your disclaimer to be nice the comments, this is the first time I have actually had several replies to my comment and some that did certainly disagree with my opinion but I felt everyone was very respectful and they all were just sharing their opinions. Wish more people had answered my question about if they thought they could do Occlumency though think I only got 1 reply answering that question lol.

Jo Winters

Of course I love two chapters a month but I also love one too. I mean... I don't really want you to finish too soon, because it's a comfort series and it's something that I will miss when it's over. I want your reactions to be a monthly companion for a while.

Jo Winters

I think I could if in danger. But probably not normally

Cari Ann

No you shouldn't look up how to say it, you should title this video ock-coo-la-mancy instead lol. I think its adorable however you are saying it lol

Madikuma95

I don't think I'd be able to clear my mind, I'm always thinking too many thoughts!

PumpkinSparks

I totally agree with your point that one chapter in this book is equivalent to 2 chapters of the first ones. They are just super long, and in this case are really just bookmarks for us to communicate how far we should read each month. So maybe we should shift the way we think about it. Like in school it was relatively normal for the assignment to be "read the next 2 pages" or the like. So maybe, if you communicate it as reading 30-50 minute chunks per month it might be easier for most people to see your point? So maybe if you say " this month we'll read the next 36 minutes, that is chapter x" or "this month we'll have a longer chunk, we read 57 minutes, that's chapters x and y" If that makes sense? Get your finger measured by a jeweler if you want to be sure! I tried the the paper method and ended up with a too tight ring. Then I used the measuring kit from the company I was ordering from, and the ring was too big... Maybe it's just my stupidity, but if you want to be sure get a professional to do it!

Alias93

Like I said under the last book club video, I don't mind if you decide to do one chapter per video until we get back to shorter chapters, the coming chapters all have enough content to have plenty to talk about. As for the delays, what really matters is that it doesn't stack and we end up with a video every 1.5 to 2 months. You've been uploading one book club video per month consistently for the past 3-4 years, so I don't think you need to worry about it.

Ирина Устюгова

This book is like a long vacation for me. You don't try to rush through the vacation, you enjoy every day. I always read it slowly, and I think that's how it was meant to be read. By the way, I don't know if anyone has told you this yet, but Lucius knows about Sirius being an Animagus because Peter Pettigrew told all the Death Eaters and Voldemort about it.

PumpkinSparks

I have ADHD - my brain is never quiet! Would be interesting if that is another defense though. Everything is so loud and mashed together that a Ligitimens couldn't decipher what is going on and where is the music coming from?

PumpkinSparks

Okay, I'm gonna do a quick review comment before I start book club. I half agree with you on how the lesson went. I do think it was the right call to cold plunge Harry into it. I also agree that they should have had a conversation about consent beforehand. The rest? I see quite differently. I think after the first assault, a good teacher would give Harry a bit more time to regain his composure, talk about what just happened and what it would mean for an enemy to do that (the "you're giving me ammunition" line is top tier), and then teach him methods to clear his mind. Don't just say to defend yourself or to clear your mind - teach him how once he understood the why! The homework shouldn't be "before bed, clear your mind" but "do these exercises we practiced or talked about to help you clear your mind" So yeah, I think it started of shockingly positive (from both sides), but ended quite poorly... Also, my head canon is that using the spell with a wand and everything makes the victim see the memories as well. While a more passive approach (presumably what Voldy does?) let's the Legitimens feel the intent of the other without them realizing. At least that is how I understood Snapes explanation

Hawwah

Hi Veggie, long time no see. Sorry for the length of my comment. I missed several book clubs in a row so I hoped it was okay if I leave a longer comment, like it evens out, but apparently not. I apologize for that. There's just always so many things I would like to comment on and it's a struggle to decide what to leave out. Actually my comment was originally even longer (if you can believe it), I trimmed it down significantly but apparently not enough. Again, I'm sorry about that. About the "twist" at the end of the series. For me, there was NO TWIST regarding Severus at all. After HBP came out in 2005, I was 100% sure Severus was on the Order's side and I spent two years defending him in endless on-line arguments. These two years (2005-2007) between HBP and DH were a unique era in the HP fandom. Nowadays when a new reader finishes HBP with all its cliffhangers, they can immediately pick up DH and satisfy their curiosity instantly. Or, if they feel extra impatient, just google "which side is Severus on" and learn the answer immediately. That wasn't an option before DH came out. We (the fandom) only had the first 6 books and we were re-reading them again and again, searching for every possible clue and ovelooked detail. And we theorized and discussed and argued and tried to convince the other side (with little to no success I must add). The discussion forum I frequented back then was divided roughly 50/50. For me it was very frustrating because I thought it was obvious Sev was on the Order's side. I couldn't fathom why so many people didn't see what I saw. (I guess those people were equally frustrated with the pro-Severus side?) The arguments often got very heated. And it all took two years which is a long time in a life of a teenager. But in the end DH came out and Sev's fans were vindicated. So no, there was no big twist regarding Severus for me, there was just "I told you so". (I dare say I felt like Harry when he was telling everyone Voldemort was back and he was mocked and called delusional because of it and then it turned out he was right all along.) I agree JKR probably wanted it to be a big twist but in my opinion she didn't do a very good job. Half of the fandom was already convinced Severus was a good guy before the last book came out and the other half didn't really change their opinion on him even after the "twist". Okay, some people did, but I feel about 90% of people who hated Sev before DH still hate him after DH. You can see in the book club as well. All the people who hate on Severus have read DH and it didn't change their opinion on him even an iota. (Okay, it's almost 13 o'clock here and I have to go run some errands. Typing all this took more time than I anticipated. I know I didn't answer all of your questions. I got carried away reminiscing of the old times. I might come back in the evening to try to answer your other questions.)

Hawwah

Okay, I know I wrote I won't comment again until evening but it just ocurred to me how to sum up my previous comment. I agree Severus being a good guy is NOT a good twist. For either side. - for Sev's fans it was no twist at all, because we were already convinced he was a good guy even before the "twist". - for Sev's haters, it wasn't a good twist because it failed to make them see Severus in a different light. They thought he was a bad person before and they still think that now. The "twist" did nothing. What's the point of a twist that doesn't change anyone's opinion? Imagine if JKR never published DH for some reason. I still would be Severus' fan today and the people who pile on him every single book club still would do the same. Nothing would have changed at all.

Wayne Joy

As for one or two chapters you should do what you are comfortably able to do. Don't hurt your mental health trying to get something out. I think Molly is just the type of mother who always make sure that her children call their professors 'professor'. Percy did not walk into Grimmauld place with the rest of his family.

Ashley Evers

I am exceedingly happy to see that you made it through this in under 4 hours, and that you are doing more 1 chapter videos. I completely agree with you that doing a single 50 minute chapter is the same as doing two chapters for earlier books. I think the results are better when you are not pushing yourself, and I also like your videos and am in no hurry for you to finish? Like, I have no interest in you trying to rush through, I'm happy to have as much as I can get from you. But more importantly, I want you to take care of yourself. I deeply appreciate that you hold yourself to a high standard, but pacing yourself will result in better and more consistent videos in the long run. Take care of yourself first, please.

Hawwah

All right, I'm back. I'll try to answer some more of your questions. You seemed to take some offense with my sentence "Read the scene carefully". I didn't mean it to sound condescending. I'm sorry if it came across that way. Why did I write it? Because on casual reading it just seems Black and Sev tell each other some not very nice things and they're both equally in the right/wrong. Several people commented along those lines. But when you pay attention to who takes the first jab, you'll see it's Black every single time. Black starts the argument, continues it, escalates it. That makes Black the aggressor. Severus just retaliates. Black is the instigator of every single verbal exchange he and Severus have in this scene. Severus just wants to deliver a message to Harry and leave. He doesn't engage Black at all. Black repeatedly inserts himself into the conversation. He takes a jab at Severus several times, then picks up an argument with him and finally attempts to escalate into a physical fight. You asked whether I believe JKR intended for Black to be an aggressor in this scene. My answer is yes because that is how the scene is written. Black instigates, Severus retaliates. Every single time. Let's look at the beginning of the scene for example. “Er,” said Harry to announce his presence. Snape looked around at him, his face framed between curtains of greasy black hair. “Sit down, Potter.” “You know,” said Sirius loudly, leaning back on his rear chair legs and speaking to the ceiling, “I think I’d prefer it if you didn’t give orders here, Snape. It’s my house, you see.” - Severus is talking to Harry, he doesn't engage Black at all - he asks Harry to sit down which is a reasonable request - Black loudly and obnoxiously inserts himself into the conversation - his behavior is very disrespectful (pretending he's speaking to the ceiling etc) - he's wasting Severus' time, knowing perfectly well how busy Sev is - all of this because - *checks notes* - an Order member told Harry to sit down (!!!) Black is the instigator here. Severus asking Harry to sit down is not "giving orders". Black uses this absurd accusation because he wants to antagonize Severus. Aggravate him. Provoke him. Preferably pick up a fight with him. How does any of this help Harry? It doesn't. How does it help the Order? It doesn't. Of course Black could have just let Severus deliver his message and leave (which is what Sev wanted) but where was the fun in that? Nowadays Black does't have much access to his former victim so he must seize every opportunity to pick on him he gets. As for Grimmauld Place being Black's house. That's not entirely true. It used to be just Black's house, sure, but then he offered it to the Order as its HQ. Severus didn't come here to visit Black in his house. He's an Order member who came to the Order's HQ to deliver a message from the Order's leader. If Black isn't comfortable with Order members coming to his house, he shouldn't have offered it to the Order, should he. That was his own decision, no one forced him. But it seems he wants to have his cake and eat it too. (I may or may not continue tomorrow.)

Ирина Устюгова

Saying "Sit down, Potter" is a rude way to start a conversation. If Snape "just wants to deliver a message to Harry and leave," then that's exactly what he should do. It doesn't matter to Snape whether Harry is sitting, lying down, or standing. If they were in Snape's classroom, then such an address would be justified, but they are in an informal setting, and Sirius was absolutely right to tell Snape to chill out. Initially, Sirius didn't throw any jabs at Snape, he only told him, "I'd prefer it if you didn't give orders here." Just because Snape didn't like it doesn't necessarily make it a jab. "Black repeatedly inserts himself into the conversation"—I mean, Sirius isn't forbidden from participating in conversations; he's Harry's family. In fact, the first one to throw a jab is Snape: "I know you like to feel . . . involved." "Nowadays Black doesn't have much access to his former victim, so he must seize every opportunity to pick on him"—regardless of how true this statement is, at least Sirius chose someone his own age as his "victim." Tell me how it helps the Order that Snape says of Harry (who didn't provoke Snape in any way in this conversation): "Well then, you'll know he's so arrogant that criticism simply bounces off him." First of all, that's a lie, and secondly, Snape can't stop bullying Harry EVEN when Sirius is around. So I'd say Sirius's concern about how Snape will treat Harry during their private lessons is more than justified. Also, in your previous answers to Veggie, you said that there are two groups of people: those who always loved and believed in Snape, and those who always hated Snape. I will say this, there is still a very large group of those who romanticized Snape when they were teenagers and cooled towards him when they grew up. When I was 15, I viewed most of Snape's interactions with Harry and other students with humor. As an adult, while Snape and Harry's relationship remains one of my favorites, Snape is a bully, and I'm glad Harry has Sirius to stand up for him.

Garfnob

i am 100% with you on the teaching style. some times "trial by fire" is the best way to learn. just like the best way to lean a language is to get stuck in where no one speaks yours. regarding who started the incident between snape and black. i was snape "i know you like to feel involved" was snape baiting black. should black have taken the bait, no. however there was no chance black would not. snape is an excellent manipulator. part of what makes him a good bubble agent.

Garfnob

"Severus is talking to Harry, he doesn't engage Black at all" - 100% false regarding who started the incident between snape and black. i was snape "i know you like to feel involved" was snape baiting black. should black have taken the bait, no. however there was no chance black would not. snape is an excellent manipulator. part of what makes him a good bubble agent. snape is never a good guy, even at the end. he wanted harry to look into his eyes at the end so he could die looking into lily's eyes. he did what he did for his love of lily not for any care about harry.

Hawwah

@Garfnob: I meant Severus doesn't engage Black until Black takes a jab at him. And that is 100% true. Re-read the excerpt from the book I posted above. "regarding who started the incident between snape and black" It was Black. He rudely inserted himself into the conversation and used an absurd pretext to pick on Severus. Severus had every right to fight back. "snape baiting black" I'm not sure what you mean by baiting. Severus pointed out how Black was hiding in his mother's house, lazying around and doing nothing useful for the Order. That was 100% true. You may think it is not a nice thing to say even if is true. Well, Severus said it only after Black picked on him first. Severus had every right to retaliate. "snape is never a good guy" This is obviously false. Even adult Harry would disagree with you on this. *** I was about to post this comment but then something occurred to me. On one hand we have teenage Harry. An impulsive, hot-headed boy who is notoriously bad at judging people's characters (he trusted Quirrell, young Tom Riddle from the diary and fake Moody) and who has very limited information. This Harry hates Severus and thinks he is a bad person. On the other hand we have adult Harry. This version of Harry is a lot more mature and level-headed. He is way less naive, way more experienced and he now knows Severus' whole story. This Harry acknowledges his teenage self was completely wrong about Severus. He calls him the bravest man he ever knew (that means a lot coming from a Gryffindor) and names his son after him. He even uses the example of Severus to assure his son there is nothing wrong with being sorted into Slytherin. *** You think we should trust the opinion of teenage Harry and disregard the opinion of adult Harry. I don't think that makes any sense. The way I see it, adult Harry's opinion holds more water. Not just because he's older and more mature, but mainly because he now has information he didn't have as a teenager. The more information you have, the better judgment you're able to make.

Hawwah

"regarding who started the incident between snape and black. i (sic!) was snape" That is demostrably false. It’s my house, you see.” It's right here in the text. Black started the conflict with his absurd accusation. Severus asked Harry to sit down, he was not "giving orders", no matter how you try to twist it. That was just Black's pretext to be an a-hole to Severus in front of Harry. By the way, do you remember this scene? Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, watching Harry closely. Then she said, "Have a biscuit, Potter." "Have - what?" "Have a biscuit," she repeated impatiently, indicated a tartan tin lying on top of one of the piles on her desk. "And sit down." Tell me, was McGonagall "giving orders" to Harry? If yes, why don't you bash her like you bash Severus? If not, why the double standard?

itsanursething

Not done with the video, but I wanted to share a couple things. I know reading is a challenge for you, especially magic words, so I thought this might help. Ok-loo-men-see (occlumeny) and le-Jill-i- men-see (legilimency). That’s how I pronounce them. Anyone else, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong! About Snape, it’s not that he was the best man for the job, he’s the ONLY man for the job. As far as I know, not many people know occlumency, and Snape is a master at it. So there wasn’t really anyone else to teach Harry.

Andrew K

Hi Hawwah! Of course you’re the number one Snape fan, and I may have missed other comments crossed the book club but just out of pure curiosity, which other characters are you a fan of throughout the series? You’re very passionate about Snape but I was wondering if anyone else is number 2 behind him for you?

Hawwah

Hi, Andrew. Thank you for your question. 1. Severus Snape 2. Barty Crouch senior 3. Regulus Black If you think Barty and Regulus shouldn't count because they are minor characters who are not that well developed, then my list would be 1. Severus Snape 2. Rubeus Hagrid 3. Minerva McGonagall

Andrew K

Barty Crouch Senior is such an interesting pick, love it! That scene of him entering the grounds and speaking with Harry while he’s partway fighting through the Imperius curse is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series - it’s genuinely haunting

Badger Kat

Personally, I don’t think it matters what kind of character they are, they can still be your favorite characters! Even if they aren’t developed as much as others, you can still like/admire/identify with what we do know about them!

Diego Zenhäusern

Hi Veggie, first off: Im proud of/ happy for you standing up a little more for yourself and just doing a one-chapter-month when you need it for yourself! The same goes for you insisting a little more on shorter comments.😊 To your view on Snape's occlumency lessons: I agree with basically everything you said in principle, BUT I'd like to point out two things: 1. Being exeptionally good at something doesn't necessarily mean being good at teaching it. So Snape being better at Legilimency than Lupin or probably even Dumbledore doesn't mean that he's necessarily the better choice than either off them...though it also doesn't mean that he has to be the worse choice per default! 2. As you said: Snape starting out with attacking Harry without much preparation can bean effectiv first step. However, he then seems to fail to give Harry any real guidance when it becomes apparent Harry doesn't really know how to "empty his mind".

S1lm4r1l

I just wanted to comment and say that I think it's incredible you're taking on the monumental task of examining these books chapter by chapter. With this level of detail and effort. As I've said countless times before, this book is unfortunately paced extremely oddly, its a long book with long chapters. We're not expecting you to be a house elf, taking care of yourself and the other aspects of the channel is important. Everyone wants more Veggie, but only so long as the quality and the rambling remains.

Garfnob

“You know,” said Sirius loudly, leaning back on his rear chair legs and speaking to the ceiling, “I think I’d prefer it if you didn’t give orders here, Snape. It’s my house, you see.” - a perfectly resalable request in his house. is all Snape was there for was to give a message, ho could have given it and left no need to him or harry to sit. that is not starting a conflict, that was asserting his preference on how people act in HIS HOME. "Black started the conflict with his absurd accusation." - what was the accusation? "Severus asked Harry to sit down, he was not "giving orders" - “Sit down, Potter.” was a demand not an ask. no twist needed, i think you are the one twisting things or your experiences give you a different understanding of works. “please have a seat” or the like would have been asking. "That was just Black's pretext to be an a-hole to Severus in front of Harry." - that is you reading intent into the text that is not there. "Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, watching Harry closely." - yep that was her "giving orders" for him to sit, and in her office she has the right to do so. she was not giving him an option. same with the biscuit. Herry did not need to eat it but he did need to take it. "If yes, why don't you bash her like you bash Severus?" - i have never bashed Severus i just pointed out he was baiting Black in this case. "If not, why the double standard?" - not a double standard it has to do with does the person giving the order have the authority at the time and place they are giving it. if this has not convinced you we will just never see the same on this point. i am done with this for now.

Noni

Occlumency is a play on words. A clue men see. Which may help you remember the word. No such help with legilimency I’m afraid.

Hi Hawwah, jus thought I would chime in here, since I think you said previously that English is not your first language. It might be worth pointing out that “sit down” is considered a little rude, or at least, very direct. The more polite way to say it would’ve been “take a seat”. In a classroom setting it might be a little more appropriate, because a teacher has a very clear authority. But it’s still very much perceived as an order, not a request. It works for Mcgonagall in that other scene because she is also a very stern teacher. “Sit down” and “have a biscuit” are very direct orders. It’s sort of what makes the whole scene so funny and charming. She says “sit down” and “have a biscuit” like she’s telling him off. Rather than “have a seat” and “help yourself to a biscuit”. All that being said I actually agree with you. There was no need for Sirius to escalate. His reaction was not proportional to the “crime” of saying “sit down”. But I think that’s what makes this scene such good writing. Tensions are already high, so Snape says something that *could* be considered rude, Black snap back immediately and responds by escalating the situation, then Snape escalates a bit more, and it quickly gets out of hand.

@ Andrew Yes, that whole scene is utterly heartbreaking. When Barty managed to escape, he didn't try to save himself. His only goal was stop his psycho son. He walked for a week, disheveled, exhausted, still fighting the Imperius curse. And all this effort was in vain because his son murdered him before he could inform Dumbledore what was going on.

@Badger Kat Thank you! I think that as well. But I've been told so many times Regulus is not a character but a plot device so I decided to address that preemptively.

Badger Kat

Honestly, I’m insulted on Regulus’ behalf! A plot device, really! I mean yes he is important to the story and plot but he also has a lot of backstory and a complicated history. He has more background than other characters that are actually alive during the story!
