SPOILER ALERT! - If you have not watched the show before, don't read the following review until you have! :)

Extra bumper video today as we have a LOT to discuss! XD

Love the idea of Pro Bending! Looks like a fun game, I wonder how much it will feature in the show?I am already appreciating Tenzin and Korra's relationship. It certainly isn't straight forward and I look forward to how it progresses!

Why do I feel like going bowling?

Hope you had a great week, guys!!

I understand that the introduction of korra might seem like a bit of a slap to aangs legacy. But imagine korra was first, and then she died and then the new show started with aang coming out of an iceberg with a mystical blue light surrounding him and his spiritual strength, all by the age of 12. We would probably feel a bit hurt about how strong he seems. Its just a case of getting used to someone new imo.

the other people on air temple island are known as air acolytes they cannot air bending but follow the culture. Mako is named after Iroh's first voice actor. Mako is the older brother and there is 2 years between them. the viewership might change due to how the seasons were written as LOK season 1 was written to be a 12 episode season and they didn't know they were getting more seasons.

Yes, it's every time. Honestly, I don't think the intros are particularly spoilerific in this series, if you wanted to continue watching them. It's usually just the previous episode or two rather than Buffy's "here's a character from 2 years ago!" shtick. Obviously others might correct me.

I think that metal bending has had a decent impact, but I would say the larger impact was the elements working together. Fire bending is basically a cheat code for advanced technology, because it’s essentially free energy. The fire nation was already substantially more advanced than the other nations, but once they started working with earth benders, things clearly really took off.

Aang would definitely agree to the arrest, he literally did so in the first episode (or second not sure). But aang is also a lot more sure in his ability to escape being a master airbender, his free spirit doesnt really believe in the concept of being locked up. But i think the metalbenders were a lot more scary than zuko so i do not blame korra for wanting to run

Stan Flamey

A better example is avatar day, where he stays in the jail by choice

Stan Flamey

I never skip the intros, j.k. simmons is a legend

Stan Flamey

The bending is alot more inspired by mixed martial arts and boxing because republic city is supposed to be a melting pot of the cultures, evidence being bolin an earthbender has a firebending brother. The boxing thing is more of a probending specific thing as there are a lot of restrictions on moves and types of attacks just like in boxing

My problems with korra have nothing to do with her introduction, my problems with her and the world changes will take a little longer for you to see. The main one for me is the differences in the spirits, I love every spirit from ATLA and I loved how the spirit world was portrayed, it all feels extremely different in this series though as you will see.

After just having seen the intro: Please try not worry to much about telling us about stuff you didn't like as much. I think it is basically impossible to love every bit of a series and so its perfectly normal if some things don't speak to you as much as to others! At any rate thanks alot for being honest with us when it comes to your feelings on stuff!😊 Edit: P.S. I love that you're keeping the "Blind Bandit"-bit alive xD!

Bolin is my favorite of the new characters in this series for sure. I feel like this series starts off so well, the potential for it to be great is so strong by episode 2 for sure.

Most people who hate on Korra on the Internet mostly have this impression from her, how she acted in this specific episode. It may be kind of annoying because we go from "Guru Goody-Goody" Aang to hot-headed Korra. But, of course, Korra has a growth character arc, just as anyone would expect from any other "complicated" main character.

James McCarthy

Do not worry about disliking any of the characters at times. Having seen many of your reactions i am confident you will end up loving the whole cast overall as their character arcs progress and they become more endearing (: The problem some people have is confirmation bias e.g lots of people decided they hate Korra because she is not aang, not male or represents that this is not the same show they loved so they give no quarter for improvement they simply hold on to their first impressions. You are definitely not like that so enjoy having a range of mixed emotions with the show as so many of us did, overall i think you will find it very good in the end (:

Pro Brending is such a cool idea! I'm not a huge sports person, but I would totally watch some matches if it existed and get way too much into it. It totally makes sense that once the world lives in peace and they aren't so seperate anymore, that they would create a sport that includes the 3 bending styles (obviously excluding air since there's only one family who can do that). But also logical that the underworld would do the same as in the Triple Threat Triade (we actually saw the one dude earthbend, but it's really quick) I also really love that Tenzin is a very flawed character who still has a lot to learn as a teacher. The pressure he is under must be immense having to keep Aangs legacy alive - not so much as an Avatar, but as the last Airbender! So Tenzin is teaching the Acolytes the Nomad livestyle, making sure the next generation has more airbenders, being on the counsel of the city his father co-founded, being the only available teacher for the new Avatar, being a father and a husband... it's a lot!!!

Yeah I am extremely happy that Avatar Seven Havens won't have the issue of not knowing how many seasons that they are getting. It was renewed through season 4 well in advance of the first season releasing its remaining episodes. It's always better when the creatives behind a show know what they have to work with.

GameAndWatch

So you know how people kinda look down on episodes like The Great Divide and Avatar Day even though you (and most people I've watched over the years) like/love them? Sometimes they go back all the way around to saying that they're actually bad because of the high quality of everything else by comparison. This happens a lot with Korra; stuff that isn't necessarily terrible on its own is looked down upon more negatively due to the quality of writing we've had before while they also fail to acknowledge that basically every season of this show was written and produced a la carte. Add on top of that the main character's identity and personality, and, well... you can see why plenty of mediocre people had problems with the show right out of the gate, not to mention that people just wanted Aang 2. Also, the bending "mastery" thing has been quite misconstrued. Just because Korra *could* bend 3 elements when she was a child doesn't mean she was a master. In fact, it took her until she was 17 to officially master those 3, so in a way it actually took her longer to master the elements than it did Aang. But yeah, then we get into where we draw the line at "mastery" when it comes to this stuff. People wanted Korra to have to go on a massive journey to be able to bend all 4 elements which, again, is more just wanting Aang 2 all over. To end on a joke: "Mako, cousin, let's go Bolin!"

tenzin can’t hide his secret enjoyment for pro bending.. i mean his father was best friends with the blind bandit after all🫪

By the way Veggie, you're officially cleared for spoilers when it comes to the Legend of Aang movie now. The only thing that would classify as spoiler in there is the existence of Republic City. Feel free to watch it whenever you want.

Hey Veggie, loving the new series reactions. I understand feeling that the transition was a bit jarring. I didn't take to LOK until I tried a couple times. My perspective was the youthfullness and energetic nature of both little Korra and Tenzin's children is meant to be a nice parallel to how life continues alongside the death of beloved characters. Glad you are enjoying the intro announcer thing. I fell in love with that song played in the credits when binging LOK. Looking forward to the next one. Take care

Connor Bee

Thank you for the thoughtful reaction. I was eagerly looking forward to this since watching your reaction last week. My favourite fact about this series is that Nickelodeon were unsure about how successful the show would be because they believed having the protagonist being female would alienate the viewers “girls will watch shows about boys, but boys won’t watch shows about girls”. But during test screenings, boys actually said that they didn’t care that Korra was a girl, they just said she was awesome. Also, since you mentioned your preference for watching things in the order they came out, you should know that there is a short webseries that came out between Korra Books 1 and 2. It is called ‘Republic City Hustle’ and it is about Mako and Bolin’s lives before the start of the series. It originally aired as three separate short videos, but I think Nickelodeon might have uploaded to YouTube as one single video (approx. 9-10 minute compilation).

If you remember, we actually saw a Tigerdillo in the Tales of Ba Sing Se episode with Aang's story. The tigerdillo might be my favorite land animal in this universe.

LouShirley

I always admire your ability to remember details of things you've watched, Veggie. For me, it's usually fallen out of my mind almost immediately after watching 🤣🤣

VeggieGamer

Haha, I would largely put that down to the fact I edit my videos, so basically watch episodes at least 3 times, 2 in slow motion XD

LouShirley

Oh, well, that would do it 🤣

Korra is still a main character archetype that I don't really relate to and this episode showed that. Yes, characters grow and evolve but that doesn't mean I will like where they started from. Maybe as a villain... but resorting to violence isn't one of the traits I see as heroic. It's not just a gender thing; Thor for most of his first movie was an unlikeable hot-head, TMNT Raphael was always my least favourite because of his attitude, and most other characters (including Zuko) are angry villains who are written to be laughed at. Toph could be the exception but she's not the main character and I think she only lost her temper once after staying awake for over 24 hours and still she didn't commit violence. I wish we saw Korra dodge one-or-two of the spinning fans, but still failing in the end, so that her translating the theory into practice during the match came less out of nowhere. Like how Po visualised the cannonball as a drop of water, allowing him to use inner peace in a new way. To me it looked like she just decided that getting pummelled wasn't working and then turned perfect airbending footwork on out of the blue. I don't blame Mako for initially ignoring Korra. He definitly was a jerk after the first match but I'd be tired of my brother constantly brining groupies into the team room too, even if she was the Avatar. The edgy brooding teen isn't my cup of tea but I like Bolin from his introduction. Legend of Korra does have a video game, I remember seeing it on my video game review TV show growing up. It takes place between the second and third seasons of the show and is a beat-em-up with enemies from the first two seasons. Enjoy Halloween Veggie and Woozle.

Time

Not only is this show made for more mature audiences but it actually touches up on some pretty dark topics. But more that in the future.
