Hi guys! I swear I had this video ready for Friday, but Google Drive took an ICE AGE to process it! XD I will endeavour to get back to ACTUAL 'Buffy Fridays'! XD

Loved this one! I definitely thought it was going to end differently! XD Fun to see such a 'Cordelia focused' episode!  She actually makes an excellent point which makes me feel bad about something I say about her 'friends' early on in the episode!

ONLY ONE MORE TO GO THIS SESSION!! Hope you are enjoying the series!

And thanks so much to FandomReferenceHere for pointing me in the right direction to get the Standard edition of the show!

As soon as I heard the title of this one, I realised which episode was and it hits me hard, because it's such a tragic and honestly, relatable, origin story. Have to wonder about her family, though... Was she an orphan?

TheBlowpop

You said, "Cut to the chase, Cordelia!" and I laughed out loud just because the character's name is, of course, Cordelia Chase... and I don't even think you realized what you'd done. So good!

I love the scene with Giles and Angel! :D

Thom Purdy

Fun bit of trivia: In the end scene, the text of the chapter "Infiltration and Assassination" is the lyrics for The Beatles "Happiness Is a Warm Gun".

got to love the Bloodsport reference when Buffy shuts her eyes to fight Marcie. The are some great jokes in this episode Xander's Vampire bat joke always makes me laugh

what a poltergeist is in Harry Potter only apply to the Garry Potter world. many other would call a poltergeist a ghost Etymology. The word poltergeist comes from the German language words poltern ("to make sound" and "to rumble") and Geist ("ghost" and "spirit"), and the term itself translates as "noisy ghost", "rumble-ghost" or a "loud spirit".

The conversation between Buffy and Cordelia where Cordelia admits that she feels lonely surrounded by all her friends is probably one of my all time fav Cordelia scenes. Just wonderful and sad.

Your reaction to Harmony being pushed down the stairs was amazing 😂 I've been binging your reactions from Ep1 and I'm loving them, fellow vegan and lifelong Buffy fan here 👋😊 I'm not that observant but since I now rewatch Buffy for the 100th time I now also focus a lot of the side characters and extras so I love that you do too, especially from my perspective knowing if either they'll never be seen again or become a major character it's fun seeing your responses both ways 😂 ✨ Super excited for Season 2, when I was young my favourite season was 6, but lately I'm thinking 2 is my favourite, I hope you enjoyed it and looking forward to finding out. Peace from Australia ✌️

Love this episode! One of my favourites. Probably my favourite from the first series. 9/10. I only just noticed what a clever reference Merchant of Venice is. Shylock is shunned by society and therefore turns to wickedness as a result. He is the villain, but you feel sorry for him. Very similar to this episode. And how appropriate that Cordelia is arguing that Shylock should just get over himself. The ending is awesome

People always comment on how Buffy improves a lot after the first season. I haven’t watched the first season in a while and it’s just reminding me that even when Buffy was “bad” (lol) it’s still great. It’s just relative to other seasons. I love it so much!! Buffy is all about humour paired with good mysteries, great character development and emotional moments. There’s something for everyone!!! Also, I love how emotional connected you are to the characters already, I can tell how much you care about the story and it’s what makes your reactions great!!

I forgot how good this episode is!!! I love when Buffy uses a background motif to help set up the story of the episode. Gives the episodes so much more depth and rewatchability.

Hello! Sometimes real people were a part of the nightmare (the spiders in the beginning), but I felt that if they weren't acting like themselves (Cordelia being pleasant to Buffy and warning her about the exam) then they weren't really there. Cue Hank. He almost certainly wasn't actually there in Buffy's nghtmare, because 1) he wasn't acting like himself; 2) he hadn't actually *arrived* in Sunnydale yet and actually arrived much later; and 3) people actually in the nightmares *remembered* what they did/said, and Hank didn't make any apologies or act like he remembered telling Buffy all those things. This episode is an interesting one, and yes, once Marcie upped her game from assault to attempted murder, there would be no coming back for her. Great to finally have the first Cordelia episode; I've been waiting for it since you said you wanted it, because I knew it was coming. I can't say more about that, so as not to give anything away! After a certain season/scene, we can finally say something more about Cordelia's future. I hope just saying that much wasn't too spoiler-y I don't know much about our American homecoming queen/May queen traditions, any of that stuff. I ran with the punk rock crowd in high school, and none of that was important to us. I never went to a school dance, not even prom. Not my scene, LOL. We liked our raucous music, leather jackets & Doc Martens, spiked hair, and piercings. Not much concern about popularity. People didn't bother us because we were a little bit scary, I suppose. We do know about Maypoles, though. We used to have them when I was a really little kid, in elementary (primary) school. Anyway! Last thing I wanted to say, besides it was wonderful to watch Buffy through your fresh eyes, as always ... is that no, Vampires don't need oxygen. Their lungs don't inflate/deflate on their own; they don't need to breathe. Some lore has Vampires able to see their reflections in mirrors and other reflective surfaces. The idea behind the mirror thing, I always heard, is that mirrors were once silver-backed, and silver is a mystical metal in most lore. But without mirrors, how are the female Vampires (like the now-dead Darla) able to do their makeup, hmmm? Always bugged me, LOL! :) The way Vampires are in this series, as demonic, I can't see them giving each other makeovers every day....

I give this episode an 8, and Cordelia is definitely my favorite in this one. She's completely herself but also shows other sides that people don't expect.

Direct quote from Buffy/the master: “This isn't real. You can't be free!" "You still don't understand, do you? I am free because you fear it. Because you fear it, the world is crumbling.” It was all real. Cordelia, Hank, The master. It actually happened because they feared it. After billy woke up, it all reverted back again. Think of it like an alternate reality

RavenLord

An alternate reality I could buy. I just didn't think Hank acted at all contrite or apologetic, so it was as if he didn't remember any of it or wasn't there.

Shiby23

buffy kicked her own ass so well near the end

Diego Zenhäusern

I mean, on the one hand, it would be weird that he didn't remember it if it was real. But on the other hand, basically everyone apart from our inner circle seems to "forget" about most of the things that happened🤔 So I guess Hank not remembering isn't as strong an argument against it beeing the real Hank as it could be in another show😅

Diego Zenhäusern

I didn't even think about that within the episode🙈😅 Really goes to show how well the show is at immersing you in what's happening.

Lauraly

Miffed isn't commonly used in America. Willow using it would make her seem more quirky and intelligent. It plays into that stereotype that being more English is being more sophisticated/smart (like Giles), but also, using words common to countries other than her own would make it clear that she's routinely searching for new information in the wide world, not just what's convenient for her to learn where she is.

Giorgia M

This is a great analysis! I never thought of it that way.

The Ginger Historian

I would argue (when it comes to Marcie being self-involved as well) that it's very difficult to care about other people when other people never noticed you were there. Cordelia, however, has always been noticed by everyone, and yet she cares about none of them unless it's in private.
