Love this show so much. Crazy that that an episode that basically doesn't have the main character in it at all can still be this great.

Just the fact that they dared to humanize a literal murdering psychopath, and to do so with a real-world, research-based narrative, is yet another reason to respect this show. I have some sympathy, as you yourself expressed during your watch, for people with this disorder, which is of course through no fault of their own. No one chooses to have a pathology. Many psychopaths (estimated to be about 1% of men and .5% of women) really do work to lead law-abiding, decent lives. Of course, many others wind up in prison or as (no joke) corporate executives and politicians. I’ve known several in leadership roles in the pharmaceutical industry. After a while, it becomes easier to recognize the type, particularly as ruthlessness and narcissism so often accompany psychopathy. Dealing with that type anywhere in an organization is a serious headache. But when they get promoted to head your department, it’s time to find a new job. My measured sympathy for such persons, though, was eventually mitigated. This happened because of one true psychopath on the other end of society from your typical C-level business executive - a criminal who entered my circle of friends about five years ago. No fictional character I’ve ever seen adequately captured the darkness, cruelty, caprice, or destruction that man wrought. His capacity for manipulation, his delight in constant, indiscriminate theft, his calculated demolition of reputations, his bottomless, endless deployment of lies and deceptions, his amazing, nearly supernatural ability to talk his way out of police interest, his almost demonic use of his voice to control confrontations, and probably above all, his willingness to do or say literally anything that he felt would entertain or enrich himself without even a molecule of concern for any one or any thing but himself, surpassed my worst understanding or expectations of what a “psycho” was capable of. I have to say, though it’s gross, that to my knowledge, the only good thing he ever did for anyone else was die. So, while I’m glad we have a realistic and initially sympathetic BPD character in DD this season, I also recognize that he could have been much, much worse, yet still be perfectly, verifiably realistic. Great to watch along with you, as always

The bullseye logo on young Dex is such a nice, subtle touch
