Paizo publishes plenty of fire spells (there's 59 spells with the fire trait), but is severely lacking in its other elements. Just as an example, for no particular reason, there's only 14 spells with the electricity trait. I want to fix that - and not just for electricity spells! I want to try to fill out some of these other elemental spaces a bit while also trying to expand into concepts that hasn't been explored yet. Be sure to let me know what you think and I do kind of want to share a few of my thoughts on the spells.

Blightning: There is a single electric spell on the occult spell list, and I can understand not entirely expanding on that. Electricity doesn't quite fit its concepts. However, I think infusing electricity with the void is a fun idea that could make it work. I waffled back and forth a bit on this design because I thought about just having it be an electricity spell that dealt persistent electricity damage. While that is simpler and might even be a better effect, I think the idea I went with is more fun and thematic. It can change the 'charge' of a creature from vitality (positive) to void (negative) or vice versa. After settling on this particular concept, I decided it would be fun to combo this with a heal spell - make it so that your enemies are vulnerable to vitality damage and then have the cleric pop a three-action heal to really turn the tides.

Bolt's Descent: Listen, if Paizo can just make a water version of blazing dive, why can't we have one that is an electric version? I had a friend that expressed some concern that this is actually just a better draw the lightning, but I think that is the wrong way to think of it. In my eyes, draw the lightning is a buffing effect with some damage worked in there, especially if it's storming. However, bolt's descent is a mobility and damage effect with a buffing effect under certain conditions. Under these same conditions, draw the lightning has two more dice of damage going for it. But maybe I did just end up giving it too much juice.

Brainstorm: One of the other things that I wanted to do with these spells, and you could see it a bit in blightning was both create electric effects that didn't just target Reflex saves and created effects that weren't just damage. Brainstorm accomplishes at least one of those with the fact that it targets a Will save and while it has damage baked into that, it's a bit about debilitating enemy casters or foes otherwise looking to use actions with the concentrate trait.

Electric Fence: Again, this starts getting into that idea of not just being a damaging spell. It certainly has damage and can even enhance the damage of allies (or potentially enemies), but it's a bit more about zone control. The damage is inspired by the wall of fire while the shaping of it comes more from a wall of stone though heightening it for more length on the wall is something that is a bit new.

Electrolocation: I did manage to figure out a fun little non-damaging effect in the form of this spell! It's a buffing spell that can enhance the senses of an ally and be particularly useful in instances of magical darkness or if an ally ends up blinded. It's inspired by the likes of a few animals that can detect electricity, mostly creatures such as sharks, rays, and eels. It's definitely a bit more minor, but I thought it was still cool. Maybe I should have included a heightened version that turns it into a precise sense? Or at least had some heighten effects to increase its duration, like darkvision. Hmm.

Hope you all had an amazing April and are looking forward to a magnificent May!
