Hello there ! Here is the last baked RP 😀I may need to take a step back about this one, I’m not really sure of what I’ve done (yep, always doubting !). I was happy with my plot idea but in the end it looks a bit disjointed with too many b-rolls, so I’ll be very glad to get your feedback !

Note : I've decided to make this version ad free, but you may temporarily see ads because of a copyright claim on the music, it should be cleared quickly.

Madame Dumais is so Sassy and Machiavellian. I love the way you set up the best friend with the Baron (oh spoiler). Such a class act. You play villainess as well as hero brilliantly in equal measure. Another of your great talents. I can see you in other videos with a similar role, possibly as a meaner French teacher or the ancient ways video. You speak such lovely English as well and it sounds great intermingled with French.

Another great video. Love the wine glasses. Love the whole set. In my humble opinion I think you need not worry. It was soothing and entertaining at the same time. You smiled much more in this video which is a nice treat. The raising of one eyebrow while giving a curious smile was a nice touch. I just find it hard to ever see anything wrong in your videos and this one is no exception. I remember you commented that your Halloween video of 2021 would not be a favorite yet it now has over 1 million views. With all respect you are a wonderful piece of art that keeps getting better.

I love the new character and the whole idea of the video! I think the title is good because I enjoy to meet the different characters on your channel and they make your videos unique. When I want to watch one of your videos, I first decide which character I like to see today, and then I select the specific video. I also liked the mix between Englisch and French very much. The switches between personal care and the chess board feel a bit abrupt for me. Maybe you can put something in between like a close up of a flickering candle or sparkling champagne? But I am not an expert and you are :) Something else: I was wondering about the background noise. I like the higher sounds of the flickering candles, but there was also a deeper sound, a bit like boiling water for me? I found that a bit too prominent. But it might be just me or my smartphone :) And a another small detail: It looked like you moved the chess figures in a way they cannot be moved on the board when playing chess. I would assume that Madame Dumais is an excellent chess player as she is very smart and wouldn’t do that ;) But let me repeat: I love it and I am looking very much forward to more videos of Madame Dumais! I

Thanks for your feedback ! I understand what you mean about the transitions and I agree, I did not manage this very well. Unfortunately I would need to rethink the entire video to change that and I'd like to move on, but I appreciate your comment about it and will keep it in mind for the next ones. About the background sound : there's a crackling fire but I don't hear anything else ? And I'm not sure to understand for the chess pieces : I didn't really move them in a specific way (except according to their rank)... Continuity on this one was really hard to achieve and I think I didn't want to add more difficulties ahah. About the title : ah I should have been clearer, the title is the one shown on youtube, "a court's game", and not "meet madame Dumais" ;)

I wasn't sure if I would like this character, but I warmed to this gossipy lady. And the chess board was a great choice for Madame laying out her plans. I've been thinking about titles for this video and the best I could think of was 'The French Courtier's Game.' Another was 'The Avant-Garde of Madame Dumais', but I think that English speakers may not understand that one. Perhaps 'The Shocking Madame Dumais'? I'm looking forward to reading the French translations as I'm trying to learn a bit more French than the bit I have already.

Hello, Diane! This is just my own personal opinion and I am *strange and unusual* - so take this with a grain (or pound) of salt! So...it seems to me that the energy, movements, and pace of this video are faster than the usual ASMR video you do. The video feels pert and lively and sassy - which suits the character! - but because of that higher energy, I myself find this less relaxing than others you've made. And the triggers (whispering, rustling, rattling) aren't what I personally get the best tingles from (I tend to like brushing sounds best). I almost see this as an ambient-noise kind of video that people might like to listen to when they're studying or surfing the internet. The gown and set are wonderful, and I like the French conversation (it's such a melodic language!). I didn't quite grasp the labels on the chess pieces; took me a while to figure out they're for the people she's gossiping about, and I wasn't sure what to make of that final chess move at all. But to sum up...this is a lovely video that seems a bit of a departure from your usual, and since experimenting is good and other people may find this is their favorite video ever, I would post it as-is for the general public and watch the feedback to help you get a sense of what people are responding to these days. “I know it’s a horse. Have you seen her face?” I laughed out loud! Not finished yet, but I’m loving the video, and the new character! The chess pieces & board, are the perfect items for her to keep track of everyone. 😉 I’ve finished! I plan to watch this again, when the subtitles have been added. Though a lot can be inferred from her facial expressions. I suspect this series (and I’m really hoping you continue!) will be a “watch for the intrigue, find out the who & why”, entertaining as all get out, not for relaxing sleep. You have so many, that I watch over and over (and over again!); well, listen to, actually. Some of them for sleeping and some, just because they are entertaining (the Steampunk Eye Exams are among my very favorites, as are the Apothecary!). The recent “in the woods”, was also wonderful. All in all, a most excellent addition to your collection. As usual, such attention to details and the background sounds, accessories, clothing, and “character”, is amazing and fantastic. Thank you so very much!

Nice video again. Love the chess board idea. And I immediately got the reason for the quick fade to black just before the end. I assume you didn't put any of the the actual story bits in the French parts? I know a little bit of French, but not enough to follow it. Apart from 'parfait'. I think I understand where your doubts come from, any maybe future videos with the character could use a bit more fine-tuning, but overall it's a nice video with an interesting character. Somewhat inspired by Les Liasons Dangereuses perhaps?

Hi Diane, You are a master at using wooden things for ASMR. The chess board and chess pieces, the dresser drawer with the fans, the drawer with the wax stamps. Those are probably my absolute favorite sound/triggers in your videos. I thought the French worked. First of all, how lovely to hear you speak French at all, but it also added flair to the character, and you interrupted with English soon enough. I liked the sudden black screens very much. It’s part of the storytelling, and you are a genius of a storyteller. I also loved all the b-roll. That’s where we get to see and hear all the period-specific triggers, which are the pièce de résistance in any Moonlight Cottage video. If you forced me to advise on something, the only thing I could possibly think of is to suggest a bit of compression in the story. If you had to tell the same story in 2-3 fewer minutes, what would you cut? (I would compress the personal care.) This story seems to be more about the intrigue and machinations. Finally, I love the title, A Court’s Game. Bravo. Just too much to love about this one. Sherri 💚💚

I honestly have no critical feedback, I don’t know much about design, filmography, etc so I don’t know enough to make critiques on artistic choices, it was all lovely to me! I really enjoyed the sounds and the dialogue. It was both entertaining and gave me tingles. I love this new character. I can’t wait to watch again after you add subtitles so I can get the full experience :) wonderful work as always!!

Wonderful! There was something about the last move/switch to black that was so perfectly satisfying. I wasn't confused by it at all, & it had a kind of dramatic balance that evoked the aesthetics of the Era. The mix of French & English was perfect for the character...& even when not being able to follow all of it (which was often, lol, I now feel a mighty need for a remedial French class) I could gather a general sense of the conversation. Overall I just really enjoyed it, & you seemed to be having fun with this sassy, clever lady...I love your experimental bravery! And while I was busy paying attention to the new 'universe', character & intrigue during the first watch, I can totally imagine relaxing to this video in future. It has so many of your signature details that put me into a trance... Also, you look right at home in that lovely dress! Your comfort with the elegance cancelled out the sense of 'costume' & instead brought a quite self-assured dimension to the character.

Hi Rhiannon, and thank you so much for your time, I always appreciate your constructive criticism :) Somehow I think you and some others put your finger on what makes me doubtful : I've probably made things too complicated with the story, at least for an asmr vid, and what may be clear (not even sure...) for me may not be for the viewers, and takes me away from ASMR. I'll learn from these mistakes so I can avoid them in the future. One thing surprises me in your comment though : I thought I managed to be slow during the brolls (which is always so difficult for me !) but I believe your were talking about the character being too lively ?

Thanks for your feedback Morganna ! And you're right, I didn't put too many informations in the french parts :) Yes I think I made the video too complicated and the result is a bit "muddled". My inspirations here came from an episode of "the white princess" series, where the lady King's mother is planning weddings with chess pieces, and the aesthetics were inspired by Coppola's "Marie-Antoinette" and "The Great" series .

I've included personal attention knowing people enjoy it on the channel, but I now understand it doesn't fit in very well, it should have been 2 different videos. Lesson learned ! 😄

You don't make mistakes....you experiment! Seriously. Sometimes the experiment works for many people and sometimes for fewer people, but it's never wrong. :) To explain myself a bit better (I hope)...the speed of the conversation and also the movements were what I'd call normal, everyday speed. It has similar energy to how people actually talk and act....whereas in ASMR, artists often take the energy down to verrrrry sloooow. Again, that's not right or wrong, it's about what you want to try and what you think of the result and people's responses. And for a lively character, a higher, faster conversation and quicker body movements make sense. To me, the overall effect seems like an ambient video rather than fall-asleep video...but again, that's just one person's opinion. There's nothing wrong with varying your videos, and I do like this very much! <3

Just watched it again. This time with subtitles. That makes some things clearer. The French, but also some of the English bits I didn't really get the first time (like 'smuggling'). Love the bit where your face is visible in the mirror while you talk. And your facial expressions. 'Except for his wife.' 😂 And the finger movement at 13:39. By the way, 'my' cheeks seem to be pretty high up , next to my eyes. 😅

Some of my thoughts have already been voiced in other posts. Your other videos are very “quiet” where this one was l a little faster paced and “louder”. It took some getting used to as I was expecting a different type of video. 😬As always, the sounds and cinematography were superb!!! I couldn’t quite get a handle on the character… I thought she should be a little b*tchier lol. After I kind of figured the video out and watched it a second time, I enjoyed it very much! 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Jen, I planned to make her b tchier as you say but the more I was working on the script the more I realized I had to find balance between a not-so-friendly character and relaxation. I already know some people will tell me that a sly character or what she says can't be relaxing so... 🤷‍♀️ I'm glad you enjoyed it even if it's not exactly what you were expecting :)

Thank you for making this early access. It also added to the sense that the people were in a private before-the-ball meeting. I liked that you mixed French and English, and you did it in a way that I could guess at some of the meaning of the French. Once I understood it, I liked the idea of the chess pieces representing the people she was talking about, and the sound of the shuffling of the name cards was really good. I would have liked more views of the entire chess board and to see it organized in a manner coherent with the overall action expected to take place at the ball. I felt this video was more like a scene from a normal movie in its action and effect, and not as relaxing and rhythmic as your usual videos. Just personally, I would have cared more for the character if besides her self-indulgence and gossip she had a constructive aspect, for instance if her gossip were partly a cover for secretly keeping an eye out for spies and traitors to the good lord of the district or manor, and maybe she was instructing her visitor that she helped prepare for the ball. I liked the sound of the fabric rustling. The pen was beautiful, as was the sound of its metal against the inkwell.

The cinematography of this video is as flawless and beautiful as they are in all of your videos. The props and the costume are just gorgeous and your attention to historical accuracy is amazing. I have the impression that this video has its focus on storytelling and the introduction of this very interesting and intriguing character, instead of having its focus on ASMR and its triggers. However, this is not a bad thing at all. It was unexpected, yet quite interesting and entertaining. I am unsure about how to feel about switching between French and English language. On the one hand, it makes the character more interesting, because the lines spoken in one language seem to have a different intimacy approach than those spoken in the other language. On the other hand, I asked myself "Why is she speaking in two languages?" It's just a gut-feeling though... Sorry for the late feedback.

Thank you! I'm glad if I can offer a bit of an idea or two. For a future Court Lady episode, perhaps she could have her visitor be someone who works undercover with her, and the Lady can tell her how she's keeping an eye on her previous visitor, who must secretly be one of the traitors. It can go so many ways, and get quite involved over time! Hmm, sounds like a chess game:)
