Gori Behind the scenes Episode: 2 Gori Who? (Patreon)

Hello again everyone! =D

Victor here again with another behind the scenes thing!

Today I'm gonna show you a little about how we developed Gori the Cat. This will be a bit of a two parter with this first part covering concept art, early lore and the big thinking xD.

Not much more to say bofore like the first time so xD let's get into it! 

So like I mentioned last episode, even early on in development we kinda knew what themes we wanted Gori (the game) to have. You know with the Toys and Cyberpunkish aspects. So when it came to us asking ourselves: What do you play as? You might be surprised. 

When we first thought about the lore of the world and stuff, our first thought was that the game would take place long after the world had gone to shit. So as a long term defense the humans had constructed a satellite with a AI (Maybe this turned into CH1-P xD) that would try to create a countermeasure for any problem. Unfortunately the AI's database would have been corrupted so it would instead try to scan the Internet for the ultimate answer and end the problem and it would of course just find memes so it would choose, a Cat. xD As alot of you people might know we have now a quite diffrent story. But we also thought about having Gori be a robot like a Terminator parodi or a Demon summoned from hell or something =P. Alot of fun and wierd ideas.

This where things we discussed before and around the time we had started making the idea test thingy some of you have seen or played that we showed at SGC. (Some day I'll make a post about that too xD we have some videos and builds of that so you people will see.) So yes before we knew what we wanted alot of things to be before we tested the idea, but we diddn't want to put a face on anything and just test the gameplay idea first to se if that could stand on it's own.

So while we made the early test thingy Caroline started concepting Gori. And early on we looked at different levels of toonyness and stuff.

Starting out we around this time we decided we at the time wanted to go for a more realistic based look. Mostly becuse thats what we are most familiar with makeing , and we wanted to have a more darker less funny universe at first. (At the time right now we have instead embraced the tought of a more silly funny universe with a tone of gross wierdness. xD) We also looked at other games at the time and looked a bit at the game Biomutant, that game had a more "realistic" style with like a humanoid cat character so that also helped us decide. We choose the style in the bottom center of the second picture, cuse it was cute, and it would have his eyes a bit bigger to be mroe visable in a 3rd person perspective. Without looking too toony in a "realistic" world. 

Moving on Caroline made a set of diffrent outfits. While we where still choosing a bit about all this xD.

But then after we choose a style she instead made a big bunch of clothes xD

At that point it was mostly just for us all to try to choose what fits best. The baggier pants design we counted away cuse we knew he would be tiny, and we wanted his limbs to be visable when he did cool moves. And we wanted him to be more edgy in a way like a 90/00 type cartoon character so we choose some more "punky styles"

And that is the style most of you see today.  What was left was just to choose some colors.

And there we had him! Rocking red to contrast his jeans xD.

I hope you people liked seeing a little more how many revisions some of our things sometimes go through  before we even start makeing the 3D asset =D.

Right now we are not fully sure about everything, and we would like to bring back some of the concepts as unlockable Skins or something. But that would be the very very last thing we make if we have time xD. We would rather add another boss or something if we had to choose. We will see what time will tell. =P
