I graduated from a similarly “elite” law school as Vance, and I can honestly say that there’s at least 5-10 guys with exactly his vibe in every graduating class. Just completely hollow and mercenary people driven by a desperate need for adjacency to actual elites. The only humanizing thing about him is weirdly his body image issues (see eg papp shots of him wearing tshirt in a pool), and even that’s been compromised by his Ozempic journey (as clocked accurately by Liz)

True story, I was actually 12 years old and present for the first day of the Tiananmen Square protest! I had been touring the Forbidden City with my family and then we went up on the big wall that has Mao's portrait on it. We were waiting for Gorbachev to arrive, because he was supposed to be showing up that day in like a motorcade. But he never got there, due to thousands of people swarming into the square!
