Quinn

We’re so back!

Gumboot

LETS GOOOOOO

Katherine

The title is so funny

~

This is like the only podcast ever that has been worth the 5 bucks for the entire run so shoutout

Throw Away

now this is why I give mr belden money

ray hafez

I know it's a name, and you can pronounce a name any way you like, but I'm only now realising why it's supposed to be "the Moroccan" - because the name's pronounced "Marokino", rather than maraschino which is what I've been hearing this whole time. But you got the pronunciation of Giancarlo spot on

Quinn

Hearing Brace try to pronounce “‘Ndrangheta” is so cute! (Italian isn’t a real language)

JeuneSankara

You guys should consider doing a series on Sierra Leone and Liberia civil war. Lot of crazy and confusing actors there with brits, americans, israeli’s, ukranians, russians, south african in the diamond trade. RUF is known as the khmer rouge of west africa.

Mango Bolsonaro

Call me Hillary Clinton the way my drip leave them frazzled😫💧

nina

obsessed w the theme song

MoldyTolge

LOVING THE POLPO, IM HERE IN THE LAND OF GIANCARLO IN FACT *birth home not spiritual/operator home

JDF

Galician gasssss 🤌🏼

NobleStrings

she gian on my carlo til i marocchino

Tim O'

Part 3 Part 2? Doing some calculus in that title 🤓

Thom Main

I love you Liz brace and YC you’re my only real friends

Chapo Bath House

A Giancarlo episode in a world of idiotic sadism is as refreshing as a big bowl of gazpacho after a long day of standing with your hands behind your back, armchair foremanning a local construction site

Brent

Anyone securing the rights to publish the English language version of this book? Let’s go!

Mark Owen

"The show was over at last. A lot of people met the President. Suddenly shots rang out. A piece of my leg went into someone else's head and killed them." - it's a combo of Wesley Willis and Snoopy storytelling.

Swimaroo

Nothing like a mysterious Italian man of action to heal the heart

Michael

I want to read this so bad

Iain

This would be great

Iain

I love this series! It’s so much fun and breaks your brain in the best way

Craig

This series is TrueAnon in top form. I have to listen to each ep multiple times to understand anything.

AB

These are SO good

Pelican Grief

🎶 I'm in love with the POLPO 🎶

Bryce

YYEEESSS I LOVE THIS SERIES

Turlough Kelly

This series joins the equally cephalopodically themed Danny Casolaro/Octopus stuff in the pantheon of things I've listened to countless hours of podcasting about, without having a clue what's actually going on at any stage

SH

Include the Utah series here

Laynie

Great performance Yung Chomsky

snapplepeachtea

didnt expect italian to translate into english the same way mandarin or arabic does, way too verbose and poetic

Blank

Did Liz say “we make our own port” in the tone of “we make ourselves safe” or did I imagine that? I lol’d but now am not sure 🤔

Here, Try This

I wish I could remember anything from the two previous episodes

A

this is the kind of pedantry i have time for

NYCM&AHole

Hell yeah getting back to the 1990s. wonder if Giancarlo would’ve gone to a bunga bunga party

Claire Simon

YC’s narration makes me feel like I’m on the jungle cruise at disneyland

Your Mum

God not this shit again Jesus Christ mane

Tea for the Tillerman

My Oliver peoples glasses auto-schumered when I saw a new il popo had dropped

Mike

Another absolute banger! Truth really isn't a choice.

Mike

Absolutely! What tier do I have to be on to get the full audiobook?

Eggie

YC's delivery of "fah-doo-mah brought some KHAT" made me lose it. Perfecto signore.

MirrorOooMirror

Nah, more like ignorance isn’t a choice. Cause I still ain’t ever met anyone who knows what the fuck is going on.

Isaac

I assume YC recorded this on one of those old-fashioned radio play microphones.

Blank

Brace/YC I think you misunderstand the distinction between direct and circumstantial evidence in a way that potentially understates the strength of the evidence. Circumstantial evidence requires an inference to reach the desired conclusion; direct evidence does not. Direct evidence need not be photographic or take any specific form. Eg, 1. “I saw toxic waste in the containers at the port” (direct); 2. “I saw toxic waste loaded into containers owned by X and bound for the port area around the time it was built” (circumstantial); 3. Photo of waste in container at port (direct); 4. Photo of waste in container bound for port (circumstantial). So if the testimony was 1, that would be direct evidence of waste being in the containers at the port notwithstanding that it’s testimony rather than a photo, video, etc. Sorry not sharing just to be a pedant, love you guys 💗

Brian Long

‘There were some Freemasons in the story’

Chas Padunski

Love the episodes. Hate that TrueAnon is leveraging AI tools.

Quinn Redman

YC on the Mic is great on this

burkina fatso

i will never stop enjoying hearing about The Most Beloved Man in Somalia. also YC great narration work

Jacob King

I had to pause the episode to go down a David Morris rabbit hole. They were New Zealanders not Aussies but you will be happy to know that despite all the tragedy their catering/private military contracting business now called Sirrom Corporation is still going strong.

Ben

10/10 reading by YC. I would listen to the whole book like this

Dino Zaccagna

Why does Yung Chomsky play him like a corny 90s version of Hunter S. Thompson?

Shiv

omg Operator Home needs to be embedded in da culture

Shiv

the only thing I KNOW is Arthur Knight lives

Shiv

Cackled at this assemblage of words

Chapo Bath House

like, generative AI is a con at best, and evil at worst. but machine translation has been around for a while. i was cheating on my homework with google translate in like 2007

Oliver Crane

this guy is suffering from a crippling addiction to doing the sketchiest business dealings in existence, i respect it.

Clay Perry

I don't get the sound bite of "you killed Naomi" can someone explain

sam

Brace have you seen the stinky bbl tiktoks

Selecao9

bro it’s a translation. like google translate lmao. yeah they probably should’ve just paid someone to translate it. However, not only would that take much longer, but: “it was a jewish podcast”

Ben Ashton

this is the best rabbit hole i've gone down in a while

YIMBY 4 HEAVEN

Was just about to post the same; S-tier shit YC!!

MATT TRIANO

Editing is a thing. In macro as well as micro.

sappho.io

Can you guys make this a collection on patreon please 🙏

Dani

i haven’t listened yet but it’s probably from Lost because they killed Naomi

Charles Frum

Giancarlo definitely learned early the Funkiest Whiteboy™️ rule. To be the lone whiteboy in any situation, you have to prove that you’re down.

Charles Frum

We know I’m not allowed to say what kind of a mason it was… It was a Freemason.

Stop the Spread

I really can’t follow this series, lol

Chas Padunski

I mean yeah, if I were making what they do financially, I would probably have just paid a translator. It’s one thing to pop some stuff into Google translate for a quick and dirty read. But if I’m doing a series that involves whole books, I’m paying one of our beautiful, talented translators.

YIMBY 4 HEAVEN

Babe, colonel fade is MY FRIEND who I TRUST DEEPLY and that's why we share a room and go everywhere together and make scratch pasta together and rent the tandem bike when we go to the pier and tell eachother our deepest feelings and

Cara

Can Giancarlo come on the pod?

Return of The Mac 2nite

For some odd reason, THIS is the series that is most difficult to follow. So many threads

Sebastian Ochoa-Kaup

I needed to know more too. Thank you for your service 🫡 Edit: has anyone read the book about him "Blood Money" by Trisha Stratford?

Sebastian Ochoa-Kaup

Same I had been confused until I read his name in this episode description lmao

Demented Avenger

Now I'm imagining Giancarlo as having Bill Paxton's voice from True Lies.

Aaaaaaaaaaa

Yung Chomsky should do a dramatic reading of At the Mountains of Madness. He’s very good at portraying a hysterical man that likes to thinks of himself as a gentleman adventurer

Clean Shirt Piggie

The G is silent in Italian when followed by an L. Like Pagliacci and Scaglione

CD

Ok everyone I finally asked my uncle who was all up in Somalia at this time if he's heard of Giancarlo Marocchino aka the Moroccan. WILL REPORT BACK!

Tim O'

Starring Oscar Isaac as Colonel Fayd

Tim O'

I like how Giancarlo is like "I was the most beloved man in the entire country, but I would have definitely been killed if I didn't leave right away"

Degrassi Knoll

Tight tourniquet skills a HUGE plus as well. Ya just never know if you'll want to punch glass.

Degrassi Knoll

"If you would just come to Somalia, and DONT TELL ME YOU CANT!" You'll see my totally legit, NON TOXIC WASTE FILLED containers at the bottom of the sea.

Degrassi Knoll

BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO - WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

D.Jay Oakes-Munro

You guys needed a sound drop of Christopher Lambert saying “Lots of different places” in that weird accent in Highlander” for when you were talking about where dude allegedly lives.

Dan Rincon

anyone remember which episode Brace brings up Propagandhi? i nearly shit myself.

MoldyTolge

Home is where da Operator operates

Degrassi Knoll

Feel like I just got hit with a pop quiz and failed, hard. "f you don't know who this warlord is we don't know what to say!" I'M SORRRRRY!

Bilbo Baldwin

cant remember the ep no. but it was the fairly recent one with dan boekner i do believe

rutjake

giancarlo is so zissou-coded

Christian Alfredsson

Well that was something... ASMR for students of abstract nothing-burgers? Nice shirt, said Antoine. It's a clever, Antoine answered. AHH sure be it, noxious carrots!

Ian :3

Bro’s listening but not hearing

wolfgang

Unrelated, you guys gotta throw a hail mary, ask Yanis Varoufakis to come on the podcast.

g t

So many numbers… “Il” reads like the Roman numeral ‘2’; I’m convinced this series is some sort of ruse to raise my BP.

tursi

well did he?

tursi

scagg-lee-own, pag-lee-achee

Michael S. Judge

I so loved Somalia, this wondrous land of smells, scents, and more smells, that I encountered a corrupt police officer, kicked so high without jumping that I knocked his head off, and indeed this most powerful of kicks travelled a full 180 degrees and hit ME in the nose, sending such torrents of blood from my nostrils that Colonel Feyd began to collect it in buckets so it could be injected back into my face

Michael S. Judge

I was so distracted by this mess that I failed even to notice what the crowd around me was staring at: my 180-degree kick had exploded the inseams on both legs of my sleek black chinos, exposing my penis and balls in their entirety. I began to beg forgiveness, saying that this obscenity was in no way intentional, but a woman emerged from the crowd to pin a gold medal to my shirt; I looked down in shock and saw that the medal read BEST PENIS AND BALLS, and before I could thank the woman or even modestly recover myself, I was picked up by the crowd and paraded through the streets, penis and balls bouncing merrily with the rhythm of the crowd's footsteps as if all the world had become a fragrant new blossom of Somali penis music

Ty

I actually have the og 1998 vintage Giancarlo oxys but I am NOT SELLING

C.M. Worthington

This series is one of the best things you’ve ever done. Thanks guys!!!

John Harwood

Hahaha. I have had the dubious privilege of knowing Steve Piecznik for about 30 years, and this was as good a version of the kind of story that he would tell—as a toast before Thanksgiving dinner—as I’ve ever read.

John Harwood

Love your pod, dude, thank you.

elizabethonline

remember when you went through the comment section and defended chapo will after he interrupted Liz a bunch? Intrigued by your vibe. Happy to share the space though it’s all love

TrueAnonPod

That's it! The Australian part threw me off but yes, has to be

Tanner Robbins

phenomenal performance from yung chomsky, a gem in this series

G

Love this series it could be a book in itself

eduard karpoev

They said in an episode they do it years ago, I called the tipline once asking but still hasn't happened 😞

Timothy

"drank a cup of grapefruit juice" ... Read with such conviction by voice actor Yung Chomsky

Ro

hate when that happen!

Connor

Airports also have those holding zones for imports, I think it’s called duty free (not the shop kind), apparently LAX has a shit load of art work sitting around a warehouse that hasn’t been taxed yet but is being stored for later

Marco von Ballmoos

"The only thing left to fix..." was his own star in the firmament. Opportunity missed.

m

These episodes are great, you should just make this podcast all about Somalia from now on.

Gallo Altanero

We need to find this man. Even though it sounds like he doesn’t want to be found. But I found Leila Khaled (not too tough) but mostly through meeting Argüellos nephew randomly on a date in one of those group table hipster restaurants. His girlfriend was writing a book on table manners yeah I totally messed those up. And then Assata Shakur. Fadlallah (not too difficult to find at the time) And a few other of my heroes. Only one I could not was Tanja Nijmeijer however many of her comrades. But in Mexico the US gov recommended a job to become a bounty hunter lol for like low level criminals who flee. I didn’t even know that existed. Not going to happen. Also they made me pay for the meal cause it was one of their birthdays. Nice dude really. Very awkward. But nice.

Donnie Ka

mf you gotta hit the tip line right now

M D

Young Chomsky! You make this series come to love with your portrayal of Giancarlo. This is such ana amazing series, and you add a source of energy to the story. Thank you!

Gallo Altanero

I’ll try to think of something that is worth the podcast time. Lots of stories. Who knew as you get older the stories grow haha. The FBI guy whose birthday it was did look like Michael Scott from the office. Exactly almost.

Grease Wizard

Bravo Young Chomsky!! Bellisimo 🤌

Selecao9

You’re right, but ask yourself this: Are there any Italianos who actually speak English?? Think about it…

Suntreader

and they’re saying Marocchino wrong too, it’s Maro-keeno, there’s no SH sound

jrab

Thank you, they are pronouncing it “maraschino” like cherries

jrab

Maybe you mean “freeports,” as seen in the motion picture teneT?

jrab

Omg, was THAT what they were really doing? The Italians should have tried being twee as a cover

jrab

I hate when I start getting into a series at Episode 450 and don’t know what’s going on!

jrab

I sometimes still randomly think about how insane the accents in that movie are

jrab

🤌

jrab

It’s from Lost and ends every “previously on TA” since at least the dogf*ckers eps

jrab

Youre thinking of Johnny depp

jrab

🚨P2🚨

Suntreader

Just to be totally clear, no hate ofc i love the series, i just think it becomes clearer faster that "marocchino" means "moroccan/of morocco," and that that's actually not this dude's real name--maraschino like the cherry is a little less clear. however, it is just a name and you can say it however you want

Degrassi Knoll

Yup I just started on April 1st, Slappy. I'm mainly here for Liz's rampant antisemitism anyway.

Degrassi Knoll

Fat Wreck Chords sampler flashbacks lol

To w

Incredible idea

To w

The town of Garowe is also pronounced “Garaway” not Garrow but who’s counting

Quinn Redman

A+ YC episode can’t wait for the next in the series

Brianna nelson

Please more Il Polpo!! It’s one of the best series you’ve done
